Recurved Yataghan blade with single fuller to both sides. Single edged, with false edge approximately 12cm from the tip. War Department stamped, with issue dates of 11/75 and ?/93. The steel backpiece is marked G.G which would indicate that it was originally issued to the Grenadier Guards. The pommel is further marked ‘V MAN.B.CO’ indicating that it was later issued to the Volunteer B Company of the Manchester Regiment (the Manchester Regiment was formed in 1881 as part of the Childers Reforms). Approximately 71.5cm length, blade length 58cm. Condition: good. Leather grips intact, with light service wear. One of only 30,000 published first editions. Page 44 has the image of Ernst Rohm, who after the ‘Night of the long knives’ had his image replaced in later editions of the book. He also appears on page 70 in a group shot. Approximately 18.8cm x 25.3cm. Condition: missing its original paper slip outer cover. Some soiling / foxing to a number of the pages, plus a little crumpling to the bottom of some of the pages. The book’s internal pages would appear to be complete. The loose images have some normal light surface wear from handling, with some having some light creasing to the edges.

Los 274

A rare WW2 era ‘Enicar Sport’ Air Ministry instrument / aerial camera watch. Stainless steel case with off white dial and luminescent hands, and sweep second hand. Marked ‘A.M 14.A/1102’ to the reverse. Fitted with a ‘Bonclip’ stainless steel link bracelet strap. Notes: the A.M 14 A mark refers to a Gun or Missile camera attached to the undercarriage of an aircraft, likely an F46 Torpedo Camera. The watch would have been held within a frame on the camera, and by means of a mirror and lens, it was able to appear in the corner of reconnaissance images as a way of recording the time. The watch was never designed to have a strap fitted, although the traditional lugs are in place, and there has been a later stainless steel strap fitted. The watch is dated 1945 to the edge of the case, behind one of the lugs. Approximately 3.5cm width including the crown. Condition: generally good. Some light service wear to the case and glass front. When wound, the watch appears to work as it should, but this is by no means a guarantee. The strap is of later date, and is in usable condition.  Note: regarding watches/pocket watches please note movements untested, functionality untested, for more information request a condition report with specific questions or please view in person

Los 272

Dial in clean condition, but luminescent paint rubbed to number 12, and 9, plus the paint to number 3 is completely missing. When wound, the watch would appear to run correctly, but this is by no means a guarantee. Note: regarding watches/pocket watches please note movements untested, functionality untested, for more information request a condition report with specific questions or please view in person

Los 325

A William IV era Policeman’s Truncheon, circa 1830-1837. Of simple construction with a ring turned handle of waisted form, and an ebonised shaft with painted ‘IV. W.R’ near the tip. Fish skin grip with twisted wire binding, and original sword knot attached to the guard. Steel single edged blade, with flat spine, single fuller, and etched decoration to both sides. An early 19th century, late George III era Constable’s truncheon. Of simple form, with a turned hardwood body, ebonised ground, and further painted details at the wider end. Gilt painted crown with G III R above, and the year of 1808 below the crown. Approximately 49.5cm length. Condition: generally good. Some darkening / yellowing to the painted decoration, but this would appear to be mostly intact. Wear commensurate with use to the grip area and wider end. Small fracture to the wood on the wider end near the tip, likely from an old impact. Light surface indentations to most areas of the piece.

Los 242

A rare WWII Grana ‘Dirty Dozen’ Military wristwatch. Undoubtedly the Holy Grail for WW2 wristwatch collectors, this Grana example is one of only 1000-1500 made during the late WW2 era. 12 manufacturers were contracted to make British military watches (hence the Dirty Dozen moniker), and Grana made by far the fewest. Marked with a broad arrow to the back cover, and the letter W.W.W, which stands for ‘Watches,Wrist, Waterproof’. The serial number M18694 is marked below the WWW, indicating a 1945 manufacturer date. The case is of stainless steel, with a black dial with subsidiary dial, sword style hands, and a screw on back cover. Luminescent numerals and hands. The black dial has undergone an interesting modification during the post war era, with the military broad arrow having been (almost invisibly) painted out. Information supplied by the vendor suggests that his father had this minor alteration made in order for it to not be obviously of military origin. The removal of this painted modification may be possible. The watch is currently fitted with a later, likely 1960’s stainless steel expanding bracelet strap by Fixo-Flex. The watch measures 3.8cm wide, not including the crown. Condition: cosmetically very good. Normal light signs of service wear, with fine scratches to the glass and stainless steel casing. The movement would appear to work when wound, with both the minute and second hands operating as they should. Note: regarding watches/pocket watches please note movements untested, functionality untested, for more information request a condition report with specific questions or please view in person

Los 309

A selection of mid 20th century Staffordshire County Police memorabilia. To include: a felt covered helmet, with a Staffordshire County Police Badge affixed to the front, chrome rosette to the crown and leather chin strap. Plus, a woollen Police cape, with lion mask clasp and chain, and chrome collar number of 229 fixed to both sides of the collar. Also, 2 turned wooden truncheons, a hardened rubber baton, one plastic tub, containing a number of police tunic buttons, numbers and collar badges, a Police Long Service & Good Conduct Medal named to Constable Trevor G Felthouse (with case of issue), a large Mag-Lite torch, and a souvenir London Policeman bottle opener. 9 items. Condition: some wear and tear, from age and use. The helmet is structurally sound, but has some moth tracking to the crown area. The cape would appear to be in good order, with light surface wear. Both truncheons and the baton show light surface wear, as does the tunic buttons, and bottle opener. The long service medal appears to be unused, and is in excellent condition. The Mag-Lite has surface wear to the painted finish, and the cover to the battery compartment is seized in place (it’s unknown if replacement batteries would make the torch operational).

Los 221

A WW2 era Timor military wristwatch, broad arrow marked to the case cover, plus A.T.P (Army Trade Pattern), and the serial number 137359. Off white dial with black numerals and luminescent hour marks. Subsidiary second hand dial. Fitted with with what is likely a later leather strap. Notes: At the beginning of WW2 the British Government needed to source wristwatches for its troops. Many watches were acquired using different brands, but all came under the umbrella term of ‘Army Trade Pattern’. The A.T.P watches were the precursor to the so called ‘Dirty Dozen’ watches, which Timor in part also produced. Condition: generally solid, with service wear. The glass front shows scratches and light scuffs from wear, plus the chromed finish has worn to the high points, revealing the brass base metal. The leather strap has wear, with the retaining loop having partly broken away. When wound, the watch appears to work, with the second hand moving smoothly, but this is by no means guaranteed. The movement would also appear to work silently.

Los 268

A WW2 era Waltham Premier Military Pocket Watch. Open faced pocket watch, with a signed black dial with lume Arabic indices and outer chapter ring, subsidiary dial, chrome plated case approx 52mm, keyless wind, case back and movement both marked 30895714 (winds but not working). Notes: the movement number would indicate a production date of circa May 1942. Plus, a WW2 era military chrome cased Lemonia stop watch, marked to reverse broad arrow PATT.3 31628 (not working). Approximately 5.5cm width. Condition: wear and tear to the cases of both, the Waltham has a little loss to the number 10 on the dial. The Lemania has a little light scratching to the glass Both pieces are non working Note: regarding watches/pocket watches please note movements untested, functionality untested, for more information request a condition report with specific questions or please view in person

Los 302

A Victorian mid 19th century brass tipstaff. Cylindrical brass tube form with screw off Queens Crown end cap, and a fixed turned brass knop to the other end. No apparent makers marks or inscriptions. Approximately 16.8cm length. Condition: generally very good. Some light contact marks to the tubular body commensurate with age and use. The Crown end cap screws on and off as it should. Good all round colour and patina to the item.

Los 275

An Admiralty HS4 Fleet Air Arm instrument panel watch by Golay & Sons Ltd. Off white dial with Roman numerals, marked Golay & Sons London and the number 630. Rotating black bezel with degree markings. Plated alloy case, with HS4 mark and broad arrow to the screw off cover. Movement also marked ‘630’ and ‘Swiss Made’. Complete with a Poljot type 3 part mahogany box (replacement hook fasteners). Condition: generally good. Some normal service wear to the case, and a little light scratching to the glass front. When wound, the watch appears to run as it should, but this is by no means a guarantee. The top lid of the wooden case would seem not to close properly. Note: regarding watches/pocket watches please note movements untested, functionality untested, for more information request a condition report with specific questions or please view in person

Los 308

A 19th century Special Constables Victorian tipstaff. Of turned hardwood form, with an ebonised ground, with red and gilt painted highlights. Further decorated to the body with a painted ‘VR’, a Queen’s crown, and the letters ‘SC’ for a Special Constable. Original drilled hole to the handle for attaching a leather wrist strap. Approximately 38.cm length. Plus, another smaller sized and plainer 19th century tipstaff. Turned hardwood with a ebonised and deep red painted finish. The wide end appears to have steel metal core to add extra weight. Approximately 33cm length. 2 items. Condition: generally solid, with service wear to each. Some loss to the ebonised finish on the Special Constable’s tipstaff, plus some light wear to the other painted areas. The smaller example has more extensive service wear, with loss of paint to the end, plus chipping and indentations to the wider end. The metal core would appear to be original to the piece, and is solidly set within the head of the tipstaff.

Los 123

A WW2 era RAF issued folding machete, issued as part of the survival kit for the Beadon Flying Suit. Broad arrow marked and dated 1945, with the makers mark for Joseph Westby, Sheffield. Composite plastic grips secured with 5 rivets, and complete with its scarce original slide on blade cover. Approximately 40cm length with blade open. Plus, a WW2 issued ARP Wardens home front helmet. With black painted shell, and white letter W to the front and back, rexine style liner and webbing chinstrap. Condition: solid construction, with service wear and surface wear to each. The machete folding blade mechanism works as it should, but is very stiff when moved. Some paint loss to the blade guard, plus light corrosion. The exposed area of the blade has surface corrosion and light surface scratching - the cross guard is in a similar condition. The helmet has normal paint loss, and light surface corrosion in places. Both the liner and chin strap appear to be complete, with both having normal service wear.

Los 103

A 19th century cavalry sabre, likely French in origin. Brass 3 bar guard, with brass quillon, backpiece, and lions head pommel. Leather bound grip with twisted wire bindings, plus navette shaped langets to both sides. Curved single edged blade with false edge towards the tip, a flat spine, and shallow single fuller. Approximately 100cm total length - blade length 86cm. Condition: generally good, with some service wear. Some light knock and darkening to the brass on the hilt. Leather bound handle and wire binding intact. Steel blade has darkened and has a mottled appearance in places. Several nicks to the blade, with a noticeable one near the ricasso. There is some play to the guard where it meets the pommel. Scabbard absent.

Los 346

2 x 19th century Continental souvenir memorial handkerchiefs. One featuring the Italian General, Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882), and the other featuring the French Republican politician, Leon Gambetta (1838-1882). Both items will date from 1882/83 and would have been commemorative pieces for these popular 19th century figures. The Garibaldi piece uses a circa 1860 portrait as the central design, with a simple black border. Approximately 52cm x 51.5cm. Condition: some age related wear to the cotton. Very small tear to the fabric in the top left corner. The second example illustrates the State Funeral of Gambetta from January 1883. Printed in black ink on off white cotton, with a grey/brown border. Approximately 49cm x 48cm. Condition: generally good. Some very light age related wear, and some old pin holes to the top edge where it has been previously tacked to a wall.

Los 279

WW2 style nickel silver Flak badge by Bremner. Solid back with stamp ‘Bremner Markneukirchen’ Possible reproduction. Condition: some very light corrosion to the breech area of the gun on the front side. The pin catch is a little bent out of shape, but still retains the pin.

Los 97

A U.S. WW2 era M1 bayonet and scabbard for the Garand rifle. Formerly the M1905 bayonet made by Springfield, the blades were shortened to 10 inches from 16 inches during WW2. This was carried out by UFH (United Fork & Hoe), and their details are stamped to the ricasso. Black finely ribbed plastic grips with darkened steel pommel. Steel cross guard and muzzle ring, along with darkened steel blade. Single edged blade with single fuller to each side, which extends almost the entire length of the blade. Green resin scabbard with metal throat and belt clip (this stamped US). Approximately 39.8cm length in scabbard, blade length 25cm. Condition: very good. Some light service wear overall, and a couple of small chips to the edge of the scabbard.

Los 298

A selection of WW2 and Post War berets and Officers caps. To include: a green wool beret, badged for the Civil Defence Corps, and marked to the inside for the ‘WVS Civil Defence’ by J.Compton & Sons. A black wool beret, badged with a General Staff bullion badge. Marked to the inside ‘British Fez Co Limited 1955’. Plus, 2 officers peaked caps, both with burgundy headbands, and bullion decoration to the peaks (evidence of badges having once being fitted). 4 items. Condition: generally good. Some light service wear to each, with the green Civil Defence Corps beret having a little white mildew spotting.

Los 71

A French 1816 Model Restoration Pattern Light Cavalry Trooper’s Sabre, dated to back of blade June 1820. With scabbard, pitting and rust to both.

Los 269

A WW2 era “Dirty Dozen’ military wristwatch, by Longines. An original piece, but in need of some TLC. Stainless steel case, with black dial and luminescent cathedral hands. Subsidiary dial at the 6 o’clock position. Back cover marked 23088, 2246, a broad arrow, and ‘WWW’ which stands for ‘Watch, Wrist, Waterproof’. Plus a serial number of ‘F5970’. Notes: the largest watch of the Dirty Dozen series, measuring 38cm across. It’s believed that around 8000 were produced by Longines. One of the lug carries an identical number of 2246, which would indicate that the case cover has always been with the main body of the case. Condition: generally in need of refurbishment. The casing is structurally sound, with only light cosmetic wear. The crown is missing, thus preventing it from being wound. The second hand on on the subsidiary dial is missing, and it is missing a strap. It’s unknown if the mechanism works. A good project to undertake, which when completed would make a fine watch.

Los 263

A scarce WW2 era Admiralty 301 Pattern Helvetia wristwatch. An odd looking watch, which at first glance appears to to be a converted pocket watch, but would seemingly have been made with strap lugs attached, and with crown positioned at ‘3 o’clock’. White dial with subsidiary, spade hands, and Roman numerals. Nickel case with crown and suspension loop to the right side. 2 wide strap lugs at the 12 and 6 position. Large broad arrow mark to the back cover, plus ‘Pattern 301’ and the serial number ‘4018116’. A search of the serial number would suggest that the watch was made in 1940. Notes: period images would suggest that the watch was designed to be worn over a uniform, and its large size would make the dial easily readable while at sea. Research suggests that watches such as this one could have been used for Torpedo timing control. The watch is fitted with relatively modern brown strap. Approximately 4.9cm wide across the face, 6.6cm including the crown and suspension loop. Condition: generally very good. Some light service wear in places, and a couple of minuscule dents to the back of the case. Dial in good clean condition. When wound, the watch would appear to operate normally, but this is by no means a guarantee. The strap is in good useable condition. Note: regarding watches/pocket watches please note movements untested, functionality untested, for more information request a condition report with specific questions or please view in person

Los 1

Full size late 19th century Sudan / Boer War medal group, plus matching miniature medal group. Awarded to Major, later Lt Col T. Archer of the RAMC. As is normal for officers of the era, the Queens Sudan Medal’s naming is hand engraved (with rank being Major) as is the QSA and KSA medal (with rank as Lt Col). The Khedives Sudan Medal is unnamed as issued. The full size medals are complete with replacement ribbons. Accompanying the full sized medals are a group of fine quality period miniatures, with these being mounted on a pin back bar for wear. Lt Col Archer’s medals and clasps are confirmed, with his Sudan medal being awarded for the Khartoum Expedition in 1898. His address on the Queen’s Sudan Medal roll is simply listed as ‘Manchester’. The QSA roll states that he was invalided to Cape Town, South Africa in April 1900. Please note: we also have Lt Col Archer’s son’s WW1 RAMC medals, and his Grandson’s RAMC medals consigned for the same auction. Condition: very good. Some light contact wear in places, and normal age related toning. The miniatures hang on their original ribbons, with the silver also having toned.

Los 227

Waltham Vanguard Royal Navy inter war period issued deck watch. Circa 1927 manufacture date. White dial with Arabic numerals, and subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock position. Marked ‘Waltham USA Vanguard 23 Jewels 6614’ plus a broad arrow mark. Nickel case with screw off back, with this also being broad arrow marked and having the code ‘H.S.3’ which would indicate that it is a deck watch. Movement marked with serial number 26223723. Dennison mark to the inside of the back cover. Condition: generally good. Clean dial with minuscule hairline between the 11 and 12 (about 3mm length). A little rubbing to the manufacturer details and broad arrow to the face. Case in clean condition and just light service wear. Both the glass and back cover unscrew without issue. When wound, the watch would appear to run correctly, but this is by no means a guarantee. Note: regarding watches/pocket watches please note movements untested, functionality untested, for more information request a condition report with specific questions or please view in person
