King's South Africa Medal with South Africa 1901 and 1902 clasps similarly named in impressed block to Scott as 2ns Copl. George V Long Service and Good Conduct Medal named to 7 Sjt W. Scott R.E. With a loose First World War War Medal named to 7 Sjt W. Scott R.E. Three bars to the Queen's South Africa Medal confirmed to the roll. Records give a Lance Corporal W.Scott of the Balloon section of the Royal Engineers as being Prisoner of War in July 1900 whilst serving at Frederikstad. A First World War record gives a 41 year old W.Scott as a Sergeant with 21 years and 9 months service, 1 year and 4 months with the field force by January 1918 at which time he is suffering from Neurasthenia. First three mounted as worn, fourth loose. Possible correction or renaming to first two. *CR Medals in good condition with light tarnish. First detached from bar with frayed ribbon.
A Kukri knife with a shaped 30cm blade with pricked decoration, in a black leather sheath with two subsidiary knives, a similar Kukri with 33cm sharpened blade, unmarked but probably a military issue, in black leather scabbard. (2). *CR Both with signs of age and light marking to surfaces and blades.
With a 75cm curved, pointed single edged blade with broad shallow fuller, decorated in gilt with military trophies, Royal coat of arms and GR beneath a crown, marked to the ricasso for Osborn and Gunby, marked 'Warranted', with slotted hilt and slender guard with cypher and crown, the leather grip bound in twisted wire, with a lion's heads pommel, in a leather scabbard with three brass mounts and twin ring suspension, 90cm overall. *CR A fine sword, leather on scabbard distressed, light marking and wear in places, but generally in good order.
With a short hinged 10.5cm barrel, the body pivoting on the rear of the grip, the top of the body marked 'Haenel Air Pistol, Brit Pat No 277265, the barrel marked CAL 4.5 m/m (.177). The wooden mounted grip with twin 'Haenel' mounts, numbered 6022 to the base of the grip. 27cm. *CR Light surface marks, spring stiff or not engaging, foresight lacking.
With an 85cm curved and fullered blade with pointed and end and sharpened edge, with brass hilt and langets with pointed edges, shaped leather grip and steel scabbard with single ring suspension, 103cm overall. *CR Grip with signs of wear and use, blade with light marks protected by an old, possibly original layer of grease, the scabbard with lightly varied surface and crease towards toe.
With an 83cm pointed blade with partial double fuller, marked to one side for the King's Own Borderers, to the other with crest and battle honours to include Egypt. Marked to the ricasso for E. Thurkle, Maker, Soho London. With basket hilt with pierced heart decoration and scrolling frame, with fish skin covered grip. With steel scabbard with twin ring suspension, 101cm overall. With cross bar to replace basket hilt. *CR lacking a small element at the top of the handle, light patches of rust in small areas on blade.
A Second World War and later group of five comprising 1939-45 and Africa Star with 1st Army bar, Defence and War Medal with Mentioned in Despatches Oak leaf and Africa Medal with Kenya clasp named to Major R.T. Elliot Kenya Regt. Mounted court style for display. With two VI Commando shoulder titles and 's aint Louis' and US flag patches with a further shoulder title to the reverse of the frame, a photograph of the recipient in uniform, a First World War compass and the recipient's Fariburn Sykes second pattern fighting knife in leather scabbard. Also Kenya National Park and Samburu Game Reserve car badges and a copy of his obituary. Rodney Thomas Elliott was born into a military family in 1921. Following education at Ampelforth he took a Regular Army Emergency Commission with his Father's regiment and was appointed 2nd Lieutenant with the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry from 29th March 1941. Promoted to War Substantive Lieutenant on the 19th September 1942 and Temporary Captain from 15th February 1944. Transferring to 6 Commando his obituary tells of his time with this battalion sized British Army Commando unit formed in July of 1940: 'He recalled knowing the landing was real when they were handed raw carrots to eat during the sea journey towards North Africa. On November 8th 1942, wearing US patches on their shoulders to confuse the enemy, he landed near Algiers. As they stepped off the landing craft his senior officer disappeared under the waves, weighed down by his kit and was never seen again. Elliott, a lieutenant, now took charge. The enemy was engaged immediately and his Commando knife saw close quarter action within minutes of landing. The next few months saw constant action and he was mentioned in dispatches. A few months on, he set off a land mine with a trip wire which cut short his combat career. The resulting injuries relegated him to base training duties with his parent regiment'. Indeed records confirm that he was reported as wounded on the 7th April 1943 whilst fighting in North Africa. Post War service saw his first encounter with the role of conservationist in the forests of Germany where one of his duties was to bring to an end the rampant poaching by bored US and British soldiers. Following the war he became a soldier-settler in Kenya from 1947 where he worked as a regular game warden. Amongst other highlights he accompanied the young Princess Elizabeth and Duke of Edinburgh on their visit to Kenya spending her last day as a Princess with her inspecting elephants. Enrolled in the Kenyan Police Force at the outbreak of the Mau Mau rebellion his skills were ideally suited to teaching soldiers the arts of bush craft and tracking, later remembered by General Frank Kitson as 'one of the finest soldiers I ever knew'. Following the Mau Mau conflict he became Game Warden of Maralal District where he worked with many well known conservationists including George and Joy Adamson who established the Born Free foundation. He once came close to shooting Elsa the Lion as he felt she was too dangerous to have at close quarters, he was left in no doubt of seriousness of the Adamson's commitment to the Lion's when Joy promised to shoot Elliott if he shot Elsa. Known by all as The Major, Elliott had a reputation as a fierce enforcer of game law allied with support for the local communities and animals under his care. Playing a significant role in anti-poaching wars in Kenya's Tsavo Parks his many contacts with the enemy were unreported and his influence on the conflict unrecorded. Following independence Elliott made few friends amongst the local authorities, prosecuting senior police and military personnel who poached 'enthusiastically'. Later, when moved to the post of Divisional Warden at Nyeri to take him away from such controversy he continued with his determined work exposing the Department's own staff as some of the worst poachers. He spent the rest of his working life attempting to end poaching and corruption, as well as introducing conservation measures that were often widely copied. From 1978 as a Superintendent of Police he was tasked with ending the endemic corruption in the government's conservation services. After less than a year in post he had created chaos in government ranks with every one of the forty wardens he investigated from the staff of seventy being guilty of some crime. Elliott's was a fascinating life which encompassed active combat with the Commandos in North Africa during the Second World War and life in colonial and post colonial Kenya attempting to reduce corruption and protect the wildlife that he was responsible for, truly a life of it's time in which 'The Major' attempted to uphold the rule of law in all he encountered. Provenance: A direct descendant of the recipient. *CR Note only one T on Eliott on the Africa Medal. Medals nicely remounted, other items showing expected surface marks and wear, elastic to scabbard stretched.

With a three-quarter basket guard with turned down inner edge, with leather sword knot and leather covered service scabbard. 106cm overall. *CR Leather scuffed and marked light rust to guard.
A Kings Dragoon Guards Officers 1871 Pattern helmet, the helmet plate with a central oval badge with a Lion above a Queen's Crown within the motto 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' enameled in red and blue, against a many-pointed star and scrolling 'Kings Dragoon Guards' The brass helmet with leaf decorated front band and rear top to back strap, with a red plume with patera top, with leather backed link chin strap, the interior with original faded and frayed lining. 36cm high, 23cm front to back. *CR Plume replaced, light marks to the surface, interior frayed in places and with signs of use. Cracking and slight loss to red enamel. A fine helmet.
With a 60cm curved single edged blade with a clipped pointed double edged tip. the blade with pierced 'dot' decoration and possible crescent moon and star mark to the forte. With slotted hilt and narrow guard, with wooden grip. 74cm overall. *CR Grip probably replaces, several 'nicks' to the cutting edge, light pitting throughout.
A German 1884/98 pattern bayonet with a 25cm single edged and fullered blade, stamped 58598 293 to the ricasso, the steel scabbard numbered 4065, with leather frog and belt hanger. 42cm overall. With a British No.4 Mk II spike bayonet and scabbard, 26cm overall. Probably by Stevens-Savage of the U.S.A. (2). *CR A nice example with a good belt hanger, slight dens and marks throughout. Second with light rust to scabbard surface . Both with working catches.
With a 52cm pointed single edged blade with broad back engraved ... St Etienne .. 1871, the cross piece with forward facing quillon with various inspection marks and number 84788, with two part wooden grip and steel scabbard numbered 55216, 66cm overall. *CR Generally good condition with light surface marking.
With a 30cm double edged pointed blade with various marks to the ricasso including a King's Crown above ER, a Government issue arrow, S, 28, X, Anderson Sheffield and 12 '02. With a two part wooden grip, in a steel mounted leather scabbard 44cm overall. *CR In unrestored condition with light rust to blade and degradation to all surfaces.
A light grey Second World War German Luftwaffe side cap, marked internally with a printed label 'H.LUDWIG/Bbg Q/B52F/50027/42940/6/75 61 8405-12-160-0621' overstamped 'A'. with badge with straight-winged eagle in yellow against a black ground. 30cm. Insignia possibly associated. *CR Reasonable condition, badge possibly associated.
A Second Dragoon Guards (Queeen's Bays) Officer's Khaki Drill pattern Field Service Cap. With a small size Bays cap badge and two small Nays buttons to the front. 28cm. Believed to have been worn by an officer in the Malabar Campaign in India in 1921. *CR Light signs of use, a nice eexample.
A Kukri knife with a 38cm sharpened blade on a wooden handle, in a leather covered scabbard with intricate geometric incised decoration, 51cm overall. With a later smaller knife with polished blade marked 'India' and with 'dot' decorated grip, 33cm. According to family tradition the larger of these knives was gifted to the vendor's Father by a Nepalese Prince c.1946, serving as police officer in Simla he was called upon to investigate a crime and stayed with the Prince whilst doing so. *CR 1st lacking subsidiary knives, scuffing to scabbard, split to sides of scabbard. Second with one subsidiary knife and light degradation to blade.
A large bronze award medal, Britannia seated l. surrounded by female figures bearing the proceeds of Art, Science, Industry and Agriculture, a lion in thew foreground. Reverse '1862 Londini Honoris Causa'. L.C. Wyon F. named to the rim 'Chappell & Co Class XVI'. 7.5cm. (Eimer 1553). Class XVI was for musical instruments. Chappell and Co were well known at the time for publishing sheet music and manufacturing pianos. With a similar 's ociete Internationale Forrestier et Miniere Du Congo' medal, 8.5cm and a medal celebrating Jacques Cousetau by R. Duboc, 9cm. (3 medals). *CR First with edge knocks and slight marking to surfaces. Second good, third with light surface marks.
A black 1908 pattern peaked cap with decorative cap band with scrolling oak leaves and acorns, and an Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry capbadge, the interior marked for Pulford and Sons, 65 St James St. London, and in ink to the internal band Capt Fortescue. There is a Captain E.C. Fortesvue who served with the 1st Battalion of the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry during the First World War with seniority from the 1st April 1908. It is conceivable that this was his cap. *CR signs of use, but a nice example.
With a 39cm curved pointed blade with sharpened edge. With a decorative steel tsuba with scrolling foliate decoration, the silk bound fish skin grip with decorative mounts with gilt rat like animals, in a textured black lacquered scabbard with cast mounts. 57cm overall. *CR The blade not removed from the grip, scabbard with areas of loss, light marking to blade, a nice example.
A Burmese sword with a 59cm shaped blade with sharpened edge in a tapering grip with finely woven surface, the two part wooden scabbard with similar bands of woven binding, 100cm. The second with a 54cm blade with concave shaped end and sharpened edge, with gilt and textured decoration near handle and back, the handle with fish skin grip. 77cm overall. *CR First with light rust to blade but a very fine example in good condition. Second similar.
An Artilleryman's side arm with a 48.5cm pointed blade, indistinctly marked to both sides. With a brass grip with reeded grip and ringed decoration to the cross bar. In brass mounted leather scabbard stamped 891 and 149 to the top. 66cm overall. *CR In unrestored condition with light rust to blade and marking to all surfaces.
A pair of 19th century Indian Benares type circular shields, with raised 'buttons' to the centre, allover engraved decoration with red highlighting, with turned rims, the padded grips with four ring fitted strap handles. 36cm wide. *CR Straps distressed, surface marked and rubbed, light dents to rim.

An 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers sword with an 83cm pointed unsharpened blade with etched decoration, marked for J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. late Edward Thurkle, London and Birmingham, numbered 17948 to the back, with a three-quarter basket hilt with turned down inner edge and pierced scrolling decoration. With dress scabbard and remnants of service scabbard and sword knot. 101cm overall. *CR Blade with patches of light rust towards handle, service scabbard heavily distressed.
A rare British Baby Gas mask or C3 Babies protective helmet, stamped internally V.R.C.7-42 Lot 303 and to the lower strap V.R.C. 11-42 Lot 400. The rubber air pump marked 3DO Avon ad 'Government property label to the reverse. And a second example in poor condition. (2). *CR Appears complete and in remarkably good condition with no obvious perishing to rubber or fittings. Light marking and light surface rust to buckles only. A rare survivor in this condition. Second example in poor condition.

In a brass mounted leather scabbard numbered 367. This model closely based on the Roman Gladius design. 65cm overall. *CR Generally i good condition with light surface marks.
With a 57.4cm pointed, sharpened single edged serpentine blade with single deep fuller and broad back engraved 's Etienne Juin 1871', the cross piece numbered L82032, the forward facing quillon with various inspection marks, with ribbed brass grip and functioning button, the steel scabbard with matching number 82032, 71cm overall. *CR Scabbard with some light pitting and surface marks.
A Rifle Officer's sword with an 81cm pointed and partially fullered blade with King's Crown above interlaced initials, and owners initials of 'P.H.K.', marked to the ricasso for Robert Mole, Birmingham, Makers to the War and India Offices, numbered M3008 to the back, with pierced guard decorated with a slung bugle, wire bound grip and domed pommel, in a plated scabbard with twin ring suspension. With a leather sword knot. 102cm. And a sword with a slightly curved 88cm sharpened and pointed blade with a primitive handle, 101cm. (2). *CR Blade nice, grip and scabbard showing signs of corrosion and light rust. Second in poor 'relic' condition.
