Two 19th century wooden models of Ship's in glass bottles; one encased in a light wooden frame of stylised shape, curved legs and decorative tops, period slightly green glass bottle, overall approx. 28.3cm high x 29.3cm wide. The other model named 'Victoria', on separate light wooden stand, the ship within a clear 19th century bottle with stopper. Overall approx. 11cm high x 25.5cm wide. Light toning in peripheries, otherwise an appealing example retaining much proof brilliance, graded by NGC as PF65.NGC Certification 6946143-003Calendar year mintage 15,030.The Latin legend translates as on obverse as ?George the Fifth by the Grace of God, King of the Britons? and on the reverse ?Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India.? The Wreath Crown design by Kruger Gray was much admired and the type design continued in succeeding years at the request of the Bank of England who liked to stock them at Christmas time to present to good clients, hence why the mintages were always quite small for the normal currency pieces. Bertram Mackennal (later knighted) was the Australian engraver responsible for the obverse design.
