WELLS (H.G), THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, first edition, first impression, viii + 303 + 16pp of adverts dated 1897, pale cloth with black lettering, London, Heinemann, 1898, ex libris plate for Rudolph Schwartze on the back of the front board (1)Spine slightly darker than the boards. External edges lightly bumped, light rubbing. Pencil notes on the front blank. Light wear down the front gutter, a little more wear to the back gutter. Light edge wear to pages, some foxing and light browning, odd finger mark but generally ok.

Odd light pencil marks to bottom corners here and there. Old damp marks in crease of gutter. The frontis plate is weak on the right hand edge along the plate line, it is splitting along this. The panorama has a tab repair running down the middle fold. Two of the folds are worn / brown with some losses. Other small tears at bottom edge and creases. Panorama somewhat tired.
