A JAQUES & SONS, LONDON STAUNTON PATTERN BOXWOOD AND EBONY CHESS SET In mahogany box, lined in green baize; one knight and one castle of each side bearing crown stamp, the kings stamped "Jaques London"; all pieces are weighted, with kings measuring approx. 9cm in height Condition Report:The overall condition of the set is very good. Only area of significant damage is to one of the white bishops, which has lost its finial. One black castle has a few small chips in to its base. One black bishop with a few similarly small chips. Otherwise, only light bumps to pieces from having been housed together in their box. Baize bottoms are beginning to peel from some pieces. Box is fairly clean with some marks and scuffs. Key is lightly rusted but lock works well. Label pasted into box lid has a few small tears around its edges.
AN EDWARDIAN SILVER-HANDLED PARASOL BY BRIGG OF LONDON The handle by Charles Henry Dumenil, London, 1903, formed as a swan's head and engraved 29 Hill St. Berkeley Sq. W., the canopy of deep navy silk Condition Report:Swan's head handle is in good overall condition, though heavily tarnished and with light scuffs here and there. Initials "LR" engraved to beak. Handle is solidly attached to shaft, which is in similarly clean condition. Mechanism works smoothly. Navy silk canopy is in poor condition, with many tears and more certain to open up if the parasol were to be opened to its full extent. Tip is rusted at its extremity.
A JAPANESE SHOWA PERIOD SHIN GUNTO SWORD WITH WW2-ERA BRITISH ATTRIBUTION With machine made blade mounted with copper habaki, brass seppa, brass plain tsuba, copper and leather fuchi which connects to leather covered saya, tsuka wrapped in ray skin, mounted with cast brass menuki under traditional ito cloth wrap and terminating in a plain copper kashira, tsuka is further adorned with hanging blue and brown tassel indentifying it as either a company or warrant officers, blade including tang 86cm long, blade including tsuka is 93cm long and full length including saya is 100cm long Included with the lot is a Glengarry bonnet and selection of ephemera pertaining to the military service of Pte. Tom Colley of the Royal Scots, who acquired the sword during the mid-1940s. Together with various official documents (two Soldier's Service and Pay Books, Military Motor Vehicle License, Certificate of Transfer to the Royal Army Reserve, Soldier's Release Book etc.) are photographs of Pte. Colley, including two showing him with the sword. Condition Report:Leather scabbard is generally in good order, though is scratched and marked over much of its length and showing a rich patina from handling. Blade is mostly clean, with a good sheen. There are patches of tarnish/light corrosion at points over its length. Cutting edge remains sharp with no apparent damage. Brass tsuba is heavily tarnished with some minimal verdigris patches. Handle is in good condition and solid. Again, there is wear through handling but no significant damage. The ray skin grip has separated between two pieces beneath the lace wrap.

AN EMERALD & DIAMOND CLUSTER RING set with a 6.1mm x 6.4mm x 4.4mm step cut emerald, and estimated approx 0.48cts of eight cut diamonds. Finger size M, weight 4.6gms Condition Report:Emerald a nice colour, mainly transparent with striations and inclusions indicative of emerald, including two surface reaching metallic spots probably pyrite, which can only just be seen by eye. There is one small chip oppersite this on the table facet edge also, just eye visible, and a surface reaching inclusion to one of the step facets. Diamonds all look bright and clean, mount light general wear.
