Mashad carpet, Khorasan, north east Persia, circa 1940s-50s, 13ft. 1in. x 9ft. 7in. 3.99m. x 2.92m. Small worn area to left of first pendant of the central medallion at the lower end. Water/damp damage to top end and in other areas throughout. Dark blue field with pale blue, ivory and light red centre medallion and spandrels; light red main border and pale blue guards.
Tabriz carpet, north west Persia, circa 1930s-40s, 12ft. x 9ft. 3in. 3.66m. x 2.82m. Slight wear in places; old moth damage to outer guards at top end. Ivory field with all over scrolling Shah Abbas design repeated in the light red main border. A very pretty carpet woven in a soft and varied palette.
Bijar kelleh carpet, north west Persia, early 20th century, 11ft. 6in. x 6ft. 4in. 3.50m. x 1.93m. Overall wear with losses to ends; small spots of old moth damage and slight fraying to sides. Plain terracotta field with indigo jewel pendant centre medallion filled with myriad of flowers repeated in the dark blue frame and spandrels; light blue main border and ivory guards. Close clipped wool in a rich palette with unexpected details such as the tiny tribesmen in the dark blue frame.
Mashad carpet with inscription, Khorasan, north east Persia, circa 1930s, 11ft. 2in. x 8ft. 1in. 3.40m. x 2.46m. Overall wear with very slight loss to top end. Machine bound selvedges. Light red field with dark blue, ivory and light blue centre medallion and matching spandrels; dark blue main border with ivory and light blue guards, inscription in the top outer light blue guard. Provenance: Hotel de la Ville, Rome.
Fachralo Kazak prayer rug, south west Caucasus, late 19th/early 20th century, 7ft. 3in. x 5ft. 6in. 2.21m. x 1.68m. Some wear in places; few small crease marks; long crease skilfully repaired upper left side; small reweave to inner guard top end; slight loss to lower end flatweave and slight unravelling of braid finish top left corner. Fabric tape each end verso. Lustrous wool with a rich palette enlivened by the use of a very pale blue and a light green with ivory outlining of the single medallion. Soft handle. Cf. Small floral boteh on light red field; narrow borders; the second, Hamadan, 6ft. 4in. x 4ft. 2in. 1.93m. x 1.27m. Light red centre medallion on dark blue field with ivory spandrels; all over angular flowers and foliage; narrow ivory border. The third, Hamadan, 6ft. 5in. x 5ft. 8in. 1.96m. x 1.73m. Camel field with all over foliate design; narrow ivory border. All with varying degrees of wear; losses to ends; some crease marks. (3)
Three Ardebil rugs, north west Persia, circa 1940s-50s, all of Caucasian design, the first a prayer rug, 4ft. 11in. x 3ft. 6in. 1.50m. x 1.07m. Ivory mihrab and spandrels with all over latticed flowering plants. The second, 6ft. 1in. x 3ft. 8in. 1.86m. x 1.12m. Light creamy/yellow field with three geometric medallions; pale blue border. The third, 5ft. 4in. x 3ft. 5in. 1.63m. x 1.04m. Red field with columns of flowerheads within narrow ivory medallion and star main border. (3)
Kashan rug with pictorial main border, west Persia, circa 1920s-30s, 6ft. 8in. x 4ft. 5in. 2.03m. x 1.35m. Some wear in places; small split/repair to lower part of centre medallion and small splits in other places. Light red field with central medallion; dark blue main border with cartouches of architedctural palaces. Close clipped velvety wool.
A HAND STITCHED LIGHT TAN TRAVEL CASE AND CONTENTS, the case being unmarked but some pieces such as writing pad holder and comb holder are stamped for Finnigans 18 Bond Street, initialed to the outer E.A.R.S with outer protective covering initialed S.S., the lid lifting to reveal a lined interior with initials ivory backed brushes with intertwined initials E.A.R.S, mirrors etc together with a mixed selection of hallmarked silver to include a silver mounted hip flask and a plated example, W 52 cm
