Manufactured in 1970. For some unknown reason, only 2% of Colt's production of Pre-Series 70 Model 1911-A1 were manufactured in factory nickel finish. This percentage jumped substantially upon the introduction of the Series 70. Manufactured in 1970. For some unknown reason only 2% of Colt's production of Pre-Series 70 Model 1911-A1 were manufactured in factory nickel finish. This percentage jumped substantially upon the introduction of the Series 70. Maybe it was the added cost of the nickel finish or quite possibly that the production demand on Pre Series 70's that limited the number of pistols manufactured with this finish. Regardless this is one of the most handsome pistols ever manufactured. Features two toned high polish nickel finish with the top of slide and bottom of frame finished in satin. This pistol sports a pair of genuine Mother of Pearl grips that are in excellent condition and that are slightly toned with no cracks or chips. All original period parts. Gun retains approximately 99% of the original factory finish showing little to no use with an ever so light drag line. According to the factory letter, this gun was shipped to the Johnston Plantation Gun Shop in Ashburn, Georgia February 9, 1970 and in a shipment of one gun. Comes in a new two-piece Colt wood grain box with instructions. Serial Number-334512C; Manufacturer-Colt; Model-1911A1; Caliber-.45 ACP; Barrel Length-5"; FFL Status-Modern;

4,999 commercial Model 1911 pistols were manufactured in 1924 and Colt made a special run of 10,000 U.S. marked pistols for the military that same year. The first run since 1919 which limited civilian production. These are often referred to as the transition models as they were developing the A1 model that went into full production in 1925 making this one of the scarcer production years for Colt civilian models. This pistol remains in phenomenal condition. The grip straps are thinning a bit with a smooth patina. There is an ever so light drag line. Otherwise the frame and slide retain about 98% of the brilliant factory blue finish. Has all early features including smooth, long trigger, checkered slide stop and safety, smooth mainspring housing and lanyard ring, short checkered wide spur hammer, second type standard rear sight with full checkered walnut grip panels. Comes with a near mint commercial two tone magazine not stamped on bottom. Fine bore and action. Extremely high condition transition model. Manufactured in 1906 during the second year of production. Only 6,100 of these pistols were manufactured between 1905 and 1911 and were replaced by the Model 1911 which began production in 1912. Therefore, this is the forerunner to its more famous offspring. Production of this pistol was less than one thousand guns per year and most saw heavy use and very few have survived in such high, all original, factory condition as seen in this stunning example. The grip straps are thinning to a blue, soft gray patina and there is some light high edge wear. The balance of blue finish on the frame and slide are nearly 98%. Still has the beautiful Nitre blue on extractor. Has the round hammer with traces of case colors. Large portion of Nitre blue on sides of trigger and sports a near mint pair of diamond checkered walnut grips with fire blue screws. Bore is near mint. All factory legends are sharp. This is the finest condition Model 1905 we have come across in several years and would be extremely difficult to find a finer example. While Roy Weatherby is known worldwide for his fabulous rifles built using the FN Mauser and later J.P. Sauer action, he was, in the beginning, a custom rifle maker and would build a rifle using any action the client requested. This practice ended in the early 1970's when his business got to large to offer such custom work and a demand for his standard rifles was worldwide. Roy built this rifle utilizing a Shultz & Larson Mauser type action, an M 54 J manufactured in Denmark. It is fitted with a "Weatherby .378 Magnum" marked barrel with no provision for sights. The matted rib on frame has two scope blocks installed. The rear stock has a distinctive Weatherby profile, but from the trigger guard forward it is a much beefier and boxy design. He used a very light wood with his signature contracting rosewood forend tip and grip cap with white diamond. Sports the Shultz & Larson quick release floorplate and trigger guard. The bolt is in the white with three oil holes, but no oil grooves. Sports a Weatherby black waffle buttpad and sling eyes. Frame and barrel retains virtually all of their original high polish blue finish, as does floorplate and trigger guard. Stock is excellent to near mint with just a couple of very minor impressions. The only flaw is that there is a hairline repaired 2" crack on left side of forearm starting at rosewood tip along the barrel contour that could easily be repaired properly as to not be seen. Perfect bore and action. The .378 Weatherby Magnum, which was a vast improvement on the old .375 H&H, was a new cartridge that took two years to develop and is capable of taking down the world's largest and most dangerous game. This cartridge has taken nearly every large dangerous game animal in the world. Manufactured 1953. Winchester, during the 1930's, made a decision to revamp their line-up of lever action rifles and give them a more modern look with some updated modern calibers without completely scrapping all their tooling. So they took the 94 action and designed the modern looking Model 64. Full round barrel has their traditional rear sporting sight, but a hooded ramp front was added. The stocks were the most drastic change when the introduced a wider walnut forend and a more rakish plain pistol grip stock with flutes. Rifle has the standard half magazine, blued finish, curved lever, and the standard steel checkered buttplate with teet. The .219 Zipper was designed for this rifle during the craze for a small caliber, super high speed centerfire cartridge. The Blue Book states that this rifle in this caliber is valued at 500% more than others. This rifle remains in excellent all original condition. Barrel retains approximately 95% original factory blue with some light muzzle wear. The tube and forend cap retain approximately the same. A Redfield receiver sight has been mounted. Stocks are excellent, high finish with no cracks or chips. Perfect action and strong, clean bore. The Model 64 in this caliber has become increasingly desirable over the years, and this is a nice, honest example. Complete with Lyman .219 Zipper reloading dies set. Manufactured in 1910. We have the privilege of offering of what may be the rarest of all standard manufactured Winchester lever action rifles. This rifle comes with a four page hand written letter from Mr. George Madis, author of numerous books on Winchesters. Madis writes, "I have carefully examined this fine rifle inside and out, and have determined it is all original as made by Winchester. According to remaining records, this rifle was made in 1910. While warehouse records are available for some of the Model 1886, no records were preserved for your gun. Under the stock, on the lower side of the upper tang is the marking C in a circle; this indicates the receiver was made of crucible nickel steel...nickel steel was used for most intrical parts of the 1886. At the front of the stock, under the receiver is the marking 1 in a triangle; this was Winchester general inspection mark indicated approval of fit and finish. On the stock under lower tang is an X, the mark of the craftsman who did the finish stock work. Inside of the buttplate is C3152 which is the number of the forging dye. Address markings are correct and found on left side of barrel flat, correct for this serial range. The "50-EX." is also original and correct on left side...The Winchester Express front sight was provided marked, "Pat. May 4. 1902." Rear sight is a style designated the Winchester Express graduated 50, 1 and 2. Both sights are correct and original. Upper tang are drilled and tapped for tang sight on this model. Upper tang markings are correct and original. 50 caliber 1886 Models are one of the rarer calibers, in addition, this barrel is an original smooth bore. Close examination of the bore shows that it measures .497 at the smallest diameter. This indicates an original smooth bore, since barrels, which would have been rifled would measure substantially larger in the bore diameter if rifling was removed...Most important, is the fact that the polishing marks inside the bore run length wise of the barrel indicating lapping of the bore for polishing. Polishing marks on standard rifle barrels do not run length wise...Smooth bore Winchesters are among the rarest of all Collector's Arms. A 26" octagon barrel was furnished on this barrel and has a full magazine. On high numbers such as this we see a few guns which have magazine retaining bands without retaining pin. Retaining bands such as yours were originally made to use on takedown rifles...crescent buttplate was provided for this rifle. "Extra finish" ?, of fancier than standard grain, is seen on this rifle and a factory varnished finish was applied. In this serial range, receiver, buttplate, forend tip and most other steel parts were blued. Winchester's high quality was the preferred blued finish for all models...This one of the rarest of all Winchesters and with its condition, age and rarity, it would be a star in any collection or museum." In addition, letter dated May 27, 2008 from noted dealer Ron Peterson of New Mexico, provides letter as follows, "The guns of Jno W. Garrett that I purchased from family were; 1. Colt Single Action .44-40 Factory smooth bore. 2. Winchester Model 92 .44-40 round barrel marked smooth bore. I also received a picture of Mr. Garrett shooting off the back of a truck during a parade and pictures of his Winchester store around the 1920's. When I picked up the above guns from the family they told me that a brother had another smooth bore rifle. This is the rifle you have, which is a Winchester Model 86 50 Ex smooth bore round barrel blued receiver." We have the two photographs Ron referenced, one is dated 1918 and has beautiful Winchester store display in Colorado Springs that says Jno. W. Garrett Sporting Goods. The second photo was taken on Carnival Week in Colorado Springs August 27-29, 1912. States "Jno. W. Garrett in the Civic St. parade shooting flying clay targets with a Model 1886 Winchester rifle." He is pictured on a wagon with a big advertising banner for his sporting goods shop shooting what appears to be this exact rifle, an all blued, 1886 full magazine, octagon rifle. Due to safety, in this crowd, he was not using rifle bullets. Now to condition; this rifle retains a minimum of 97% original Winchester factory blue finish throughout. The legends and edges are razor sharp with light muzzle wear, some very minor high edge wear. There is some minor age freckling at upper left side of frame. Little thinness of blue in loading gate. Near perfect blue at base of receiver and on bolt. Strong case colors with varnish on sides of lever, traces on hammer, even the butt plate has some remains of case colors. The wood has a few usual impressions but is near mint with no cracks. The luster of blue on frame is similar to the Colt royal blue seen on a Python. The bore and action are near mint to mint. Near mint, all original .50 caliber Model 1886's are amongst the most desirable of all Winchesters. Add to that, the rarity factor of a factory smooth bore which Madis estimated at a fewer than six total, and add to that a story history with photographic evidence and you have what arguably is the finest of its example in the hobby.
