The claws are a little worn but all present. Evidence of sizing to the shank, and signs of porosity. The diamond appears fairly white and bright, no obvious inclusions, 6.7mm diameter x 4mm deep approx. The two sapphires well matched, light nibbling to the edges, no obvious chips, cracks etc, both approximately 5.5mm diameter x 2.6-3mm deep **General condition consistent with age

Late 19th Century Chinese Export camphor wood Campaign-style chest of drawers, attributed to Sui Kee Chan, Hong Kong, the upper section with moulded oblong top over two long drawers with moulded panel fronts, circular brass escutcheons with moulded cutaway beneath, and flush-fitted brass handles between carved foliate corners with Shou motifs, the conforming lower stage of two further long drawers raised on carved paw feet, each section with side carry handles, some Chinese characters beneath drawer linings, 122cm x 52cm x 112cm high, together with a similar carved camphor wood superstructure from a dressing table or chest, with fan-reeded architectural pediment over bevelled rectangular mirror between foliate scroll-pierced panels and fan quadrants, in turn above two banks of two stepped drawers with flush-fitted brass handles, 119cm x 46.5cm x 116.5cm high (2). A similar chest with label of Sui Kee Chan sold Gildings, 14th July 2020, lot 1597. Condition: Chest of drawers - some scuffs to rear of top where dressing table superstructure has been resting. These are most noticeable to back right corner where there is 1.5cm square patch and cracking plus rubbing. The remainder could easily be repolished. The overall finish is perhaps a little over cleaned but would benefit from a wax, the feet are slightly faded in relation to the rest of the chest but again could be fed with polish. Minor losses to rear corner of upper section side panel due to handling. Second item is the superstructure of a dressing table with some grain cracking where upper drawers meet top of lower drawers. One short drawer is locked with no key. Light tarnish spots to mirror, otherwise sound - **General condition consistent with age

Books - Kathleen Hale OBE (1898-2000) - Orlando (The Marmalade Cat) Three hardback editions, two with dust jackets, 'Buys a Farm', 'His Silver Wedding', and 'A Camping Holiday' (3) - Provenance: The Kathleen Hale Collection: Kathleen Hale OBE (1968-2000) was the creator and Illustrator of the eighteen children’s books featuring ‘Orlando – The Marmalade Cat’. Her autobiography ‘A Slender Reputation’ published in her 96th year chronicled a life that included a stint as Augustus John’s secretary prior to the creation of Orlando, her Utopian feline character, a bed-time favourite for generations of bedtime story recipients. The extensive collection of artworks in a variety of media together with her copies of Orlando books in various languages are offered for auction on the instructions of the Executors of the estate of Nicholas McClean, Kathleen’s son. Pigott's Directory of 1820 records John Warner Senior working in High Street Evesham and John Junior in Bridge Street Evesham. Condition: The see-saw automaton may have been repainted. Minor flaking to edge of dial, typical light crazing. Some staining below terrestrial calendar crescent and between numerals 7 and 8. movement appears sound but is untested and sold as seen. Case has minor cracking through both swan necks but is otherwise sound - **General condition consistent with age

Vertical and horizontal grain cracking and some flake mosses to right side of cresting. Minor scuffing and scratching to borders outside mirror plus a horizontal scratch to lower right corner. Local Interest - Family group of late Victorian needlework samplers, relating to the New Orphen Houses (Muller Homes), Ashley Down, Bristol, comprising a petit-point example dated 1892 and named 'Rosina' and 'Bessie', with alphabetical and numerical samples over assorted motifs of flowering plants, birds, animals, buildings, a ship, religious symbols etc, 31cm x 27cm, together with another by 'Lydia Newman', 30.5cm x 25cm, and two smaller works (4) - Provenance - Offered for sale by a descendant of Elizabeth 'Bessie' Frances Newman (1878-1961) and her older sister Rosina Newman (1873-1900), who both entered the Orphenage on the 15th June 1882, joining Infants Department No.2 as numbers 6304 and 6303 respectively, and sold with a note to this effect. Condition: Light discolouration and a few water stains to the first. Has been folded. 2nd slightly brown to edges, minor edge staining. Early 19th Century gilt overmantel mirror, of inverted breakfront design with cavetto-moulded cornice over folate Vitruvian scroll work frieze, the bevelled rectangular mirror plate between sunken columns, 152cm wide x 89cm high Condition: Isolated patches of minor flaking to gilding as per images. Gilding is thin to columns and mouldings surrounding mirror plate revealing red primer. Light tarnishing to mirror plate plus very slight edge flaking to silvering.
