His main writings were on education, most notably the progressive Practical Education of 1798 with his daughter, the novelist Maria Edgeworth. In the present work he discusses the education of people entering the the professions such as the law, military, government and the church.

Corelli (1653-1713) was one of the pre-eminent figures of the Baroque, his music being vital to the development of the modern genres of sonata and concerto, and in establishing the prominence of the violin in orchestral performance.

This work with chapters on diet (the "Mischief of Variety of Meats and Drinks"), disease, women and marriage, raising children, and the advantages of a retired country life.
