1972 Rover P6 2000 TC Transmission: manualMileage:53187The P6 was the sixth and the last of the 'P' designated Rover designs to reach production. The vehicle was marketed first as the Rover 2000 and with a completely new design, was intended to appeal to a larger number of buyers; the P5 was sold alongside the P6 until 1973. The 2000 was advanced for the time with a De Dion tube suspension at the rear, four-wheel disc brakes (inboard on the rear), and a full synchromesh gearbox. The unibody design featured non-stressed panels bolted to a unit frame, similar to the Citroën DS. The Rover 2000 won industry awards for safety when it was introduced. The car featured all-round seat belts and a carefully designed 'safety' interior. One innovative feature was the prism of glass on the top of the front side lights, this allowed the driver to see the front corner of the car in low light conditions. The Rover P6 series was voted European Car of the Year in 1964; the very first winner of this title. Rover made an attempt to break into the North American market with the P6 beginning with the Rover 2000 TC.This delightful Rover 2000 was supplied originally in July 1972. 1972 Jensen Healey Convertible Transmission: manualMileage:65641The Jensen Healey was designed in a joint venture by Donald Healey and William Towns with Jensen Motors and it was hoped that Healey could help to contribute the sense of style that made the Austin Healey a hit. Jensen looked to Lotus for the power plant as they had a new, untested engine available, thus all Jensen Healey models came equipped with the new 1973cc Lotus 907 engine. This multi-valve engine has a claim to be the first to be used in a 'mass produced' car with a set-up producing approximately 144bhp and a top speed of 119mph, accelerating from 0-60mph in just 8.1 seconds.This very presentable example is offered in light blue with black interior, black hood and comes with the rare factory hardtop. The last owner had the car for some 32 years and it has been the subject of a restoration between 2016 and 2017 when circa £17,000 was spent on the car. This included the replacement of its SU carbs with Dellorto's and the work was carried out by Fourways Engineering near Sevenoaks in Kent. The car now looks extremely good all round and comes with a large history file. These are rare cars and one in this condition, even rarer!
1948 Citroën Traction Light 15 (Small Boot) Transmission: manualMileage:3082The Traction Avant, French for 'front wheel drive', was designed by André Lefèbvre and Flaminio Bertoni in late 1933, early 1934. While not the first production front-wheel drive car, it was the world's first front-wheel drive steel unitary body frame production car. Along with DKW's 1930s models, the Traction pioneered front-wheel drive on the European mass car market. The Traction Avant's structure was a welded unitary body/chassis. Most other cars of the era were based on a separate chassis onto which the non-structural body or 'coachwork' was built. This method of construction was viewed with great suspicion in many quarters, with doubts about its strength. A type of crash test was conceived, taking the form of driving the car off a cliff, to illustrate its great inherent resilience. The novel design made the car very low-slung relative to its contemporaries - the Traction Avant was always distinctive, which went from appearing rakish in 1934 to familiar and somewhat old fashioned by 1955. The suspension was very advanced for the car's era. The front wheels were independently sprung using a torsion bar and wishbone suspension arrangement, where most contemporaries used live axle and cart-type leaf spring designs. Since it was considerably lighter than conventional designs of the era, it was capable of 62mph, and consumed fuel only at the rate of 28mpg. This very rare UK manufactured right hand drive example is presented in Ivory with contrasting Burgundy leather interior and carpets. The car was built in Slough, Berkshire in 1948 and shipped to New Zealand where it was first registered in June 1949. It stayed in New Zealand until May 1992 having had only four owners until then. It comes with the original New Zealand logbook showing all the owners. It was then sold to a Mr. Lynn who was an aircraft engineer and it was he that repatriated the car back to the UK in 1992 according to the UK Customs importation certificate. Since being back in the UK, the car has only had three previous owners with the last having owned it for the last 12 years (since 2010) The interior is in good condition showing nice patina and the wood dash, trim, along with the headlining and carpets are also in good condition. The history file goes back to 1948 with many invoices since it was imported. The previous owner has spent a considerable amount of money during his ownership to bring this car up to its current standard, completely overhauling the car mechanically which included an engine rebuild in 2015/16 and has covered a mere 3,082 since. The gearbox was also rebuilt as well as the clutch and flywheel. The back axle was replaced, all the suspension was rebuilt to name a few of the works carried out. A great French classic which became synonymous with the French Police as their chosen mode of transport owing to its performance capabilities.
1978 BMW 633 CSi Transmission: manualMileage:123573In the 1970s, BMW engineers wanted to build light, fast sporting machines, while management sought to produce large Autobahn bruisers to compete with Mercedes-Benz. Around that time, revered French designer Paul Bracq was hired away from Mercedes-Benz. He was able to bridge the gap between the two BMW factions by penning the fantastic 6-Series Coupé. A spacious, comfortable road car, it appealed to management's desire for a large grand tourer. Quick and competent, with taut lines reminiscent of the 3.0 CS, it pleased BMW's engineers as well.Originally sold by BMW Concessionaires GB Ltd Export Division in June 1978, this fabulous driving machine and well presented BMW 633 CSi is supplied with a huge service history within its original booklet, together with a schedule of works for its major restoration which was carried out by the well-known BMW dealer group, Coopers of Thames Ditton. The extent of the works carried out in all areas of the car is mind blowing. In total, the car was with Coopers for an entire year from between 88/89! Amazingly, only 20,000 miles have been covered since these works were completed and the car has been laid up in storage for many years. However, in 2014, Rangers of Guildford carried out a huge recommissioning of the engine and its components, costing £2,400 at 123,000 miles. It is fitted with the stunning optional Alpina 18€ wheels, the CSi deep front spoiler and its Pearlescent paintwork and fantastic period velour interior - this is truly an eyeful of a car. Following its recommissioning, it's clear to see that this low ownership car has been lovingly cared for in idyllic conditions by its current family ownership and will not disappoint. Late 80's and 90's CSi's are readily available but where do you find 70's early models? The owner also ensures us that this car will have a full MoT test certificate at the time of sale.
1937 Ford Model B Pick-Up Hot Rod Transmission: automaticMileage:The Ford Model B was introduced in 1932 as a replacement for the Model A and was produced until 1934. It was available in a large variety of body styles including two-door roadster, two-door Coupé, four-door saloons, four-door station wagons and pick-up derivative. The Model B's proved very popular with bootleggers as they were easily modified then used to evade the revenue agents in the prohibition era. During the period after World War II, returning soldiers regularly upgraded Model B's with larger engines, improved suspension and transmissions. It was commonplace to fit larger rear wheels to raise gear ratio at high speed, while in the front smaller wheels allowed the car to rake forward for improved aerodynamics. These cars were built to race and became known as 'Hot Rods'.This fabulous Hot Rod is registered in the V5 Registration document as a 1937 car but in fact it is a 1932 car! (Model B cars ceased production in 1934) However, the car being offered at the auction bares no resemblance to the original car as it has been the subject of a £110,000 transformation into an amazing and striking Hot Rod. It is powered by the mighty 350 Chevrolet V8 5.7 litre engine mated to an automatic gearbox. The restoration/transformation was carried out by the well know specialist Jon Golding at Home Grown Hot Rods in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It is presented in Gold metallic with open wheel configuration and the interior is finished in light brown leather which is immaculate, together with the dashboard in Gold metallic also. This stunning vehicle really must be seen to be fully appreciated and would grace any collection, museum or be the envy of the road or show.
1964 Aston Martin DB5 Transmission: manualMileage:10920To the casual observer, the 1963 DB5 is virtually indistinguishable from a late model DB4 Vantage; the DB5 is essentially a four-litre version of the DB4. Initially fitted with the four-speed David Brown gearbox, the vast majority of cars received the superior five-speed gearbox either as an option or later as standard fitting. So why is the DB5 so often thought of as the quintessential Aston Martin? Without doubt this is due to a Silver Birch example featuring in the 1964 James Bond film, Goldfinger, complete with special modifications and hidden weaponry. With 007 behind the wheel of the sensational sports GT, demand outstripped supply - the factory just couldn't capitalise fast enough on the marketing success of the DB5. Even today, DB5's are highly regarded and change hands for sums significantly greater than almost anything else in the range. Its production, however, was fairly short-lived, ending in September 1965 after 1,021 had been manufactured.Chassis number '1529/R' was sold new to Carter-Parratt Ltd of Sutton, Surrey and was originally finished in Platinum with red Connolly leather interior. Only one additional owner is listed on the accompanying copy build sheet: Anthony Nathaniel Crossley of Reading Carpet Co Ltd, though the change is undated. The build sheet lists various works carried out at Newport Pagnell up to January 1967 (at 21,691 miles). The previous owner bought the car circa 1988 from his father-in-law, Eric Bradley, who had purchased it from Ralph Rothermere around 1968. Fulham Workshops of Parsons Green (later Clapham Common) serviced the Aston for many years until they retired.In 2006 Aston Martin specialist Tim Bissett, was commissioned for an rebuild and upgrade, these works involved enlarging the engine to 4.2 litres capacity. Photographed in the history file is confirmation the car was used competitively for the 2001 Classic Marathon rally wearing its number 65 and registration 2189 RD. Our highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic vendor purchased this car at a Bonhams auction in December 2017 before undertaking a full nut and bolt restoration. The two-year restoration is detailed in a hardback photo book supplied with the car showing the entire process before being finished and used for his daughter's wedding. Part of the restoration included various upgrades to be implemented and during the restoration our vendor installed a high-capacity aluminium radiator with electric fan, power steering, larger 6x15 spoke wire wheels and 205/70 Blockley tyres and Billet crankshaft with fast road cams. Nice touches to the cars everyday usability includes central locking, an upgraded light system and a retro style modern DAB radio.The history file includes invoices from the restoration, original order details, earlier servicing schedule and engine rebuild details from Tim Bissett, photographs of the car racing, a restoration photobook and details of a full €˜tune up' in 2020. This example has been well cared for by our vendor who has owned no less than three DB5's. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate together with a good history folder the DB5 is still, quite rightly, considered one of the most stunning designs ever penned. This quintessentially British sportscar is a highly useable example.* Interested parties should note that the private registration plate shown is to be retained by the vendor and a new, age-related registration issued instead.
1951 Mercedes-Benz 170S B Cabriolet Transmission: manualMileage:The Mercedes-Benz W136 was one of a range of inline four-cylinder cars from the mid-1930s into the 1950s. The model 170V made its public debut as successor to the W15 Type 170 in February 1936 and between 1936 and 1939 it was Mercedes-Benz top selling model. During the war the plant suffered very severe bomb damage, the manufacturer nevertheless emerged from the trauma with a significant competitive advantage over many of its pre-war competitors. Enough of the W136's tooling survived the bombing during World War II (or could be recreated post-war) for it to serve as the foundation upon which the company could rebuild. By 1947 the model 170V had resumed its place as Mercedes-Benz top-seller, a position it held until 1953. Lacking a luxury car in its line-up, Mercedes-Benz sought to regain a niche in that market by introducing the upscale 170S version of the 170V in 1949. It was more luxurious, costlier and, when launched, slightly larger than the 170V, distinctions the company made an effort to emphasize. Although sometimes referred to today as the first S-Class Mercedes-Benz, that designation did not yet exist. For a brief period of time, it was also offered as a Convertible A and B, these were almost entirely hand assembled dream cars. Only 1,603 cars of the four-seater Convertible B were made which has turned it into a very sought after old-timer.The car was used by the MI6 in Berlin during one of the most interesting periods of the Cold War in the 1950's. The car was owned by a MI6 agent who worked with George Blake who turned out to be a Russian spy and it was registered at the same address as Blake during its time in Berlin. Imported to the UK in the late 50's and after lying in decay for decades it was purchased by Kenneth Foat who restored it to Concours d'Elegance condition. The car has since won several awards, been on display at Mercedes-Benz World and featured in the Mercedes history movie. This superb concours and award-winning Mercedes-Benz is presented in two-tone blue with light grey leather interior. The full restoration by Kenneth Foat some years ago, as previously mentioned, has photographic evidence in history file and the result is stunning. Its black hood is in superb condition and folds back as it should, all wood is immaculate and the whole car remains in award winning condition. Aside from its condition, this absolute gem has as fascinating history! It was owned originally by MI6 in 1956 and used by the then MI6 agent, Howard Greville, his neighbour in Berlin at the time was none other than the infamous George Blake, the Soviet double agent/spy during the height of the Cold War period. The car was used daily by Howard in Berlin between 1955 and 1956 to get to work from his residence at Platanenallee 26 in Charlottenburg to the MI6 headquarter at the Olympic Games stadium and to various MI6 intelligence gathering operations. In a letter from Howard to the Foat family, he confirmed he was €˜living in the British occupied part of Berlin with the attention directed upon Stalin'. Also, in an interview with Howard on 4th July 2008 by the Herald newspaper, they disclosed that Howard was a MI6 spy working in Berlin gathering information on the Soviets and that his main duty was to recruit Germans to assist. The mileage obtained from the original German service books written in Howard's handwriting demonstrates the daily commute from Platanenallee 26 Charlottenburg to the MI6 headquarters. It shows that between 7th February and 7th June 1955 the car travelled 715km (66,162km to 66,877km) and between 7th June and 22nd June 1955 the car travelled 173km, which sums up to the daily commute.The secret MI6 operations that took place in Berlin at this precise moment was Operation Gold. Operation Gold or otherwise named Operation Stopwatch began in late December 1954 (Bill Harvey US) and was in full motion in 1955. It was a joint initiative between CIA and MI6 to tap into the Soviet communications by digging a tunnel under Berlin. The tunnel was completed on 2nd April 1956, which is about the same time the car and Howard left Berlin. The dates and miles put on the car while stationed in Berlin during 1955 coincides with Operation Gold. Operation Gold was at the time top secret, but it is now widely documented. One interesting book reflecting the secret mission is Steve Vogel's book on George Blake called €˜Betrayal in Berlin'. It is a very comprehensive book on the Berlin Tunnel and the greatest conspiracy of the Cold War. At the heart of this Cold War espionage was George Blake. There is no doubt George knew the Mercedes well, considering he and Howard worked together and lived at the same address, so it's highly likely George sometimes took a ride with Howard to the MI6 headquarter at the Olympic Games stadium.The incredible, true and fascination history together with the car's superb condition, must surely make this one of the most desirable examples of this model to come to the market in years. This car was also displayed to the public at Mercedes-Benz World in Brooklands between 2008-2013.
1968 Lancia Flaminia 3B (2.8 Litre) Transmission: manualMileage:92446The Flaminia Coupé was introduced at the Turin Motor show in 1958, nearly two years after the saloon. The styling was based on the Aurelia Florida designed by Battista Pininfarina and considered by many to be his most influential design, it was also his personal favourite and he drove one for the rest of his life. Flaminia initially had a single 'carburetted' much modified version of the Aurelia all alloy V6, with drum brakes but disc brakes replaced the drums early on. Triple carburettors replaced the single in 1962 and the Flaminia became the Flaminia 3B, the power went from 119 to 130bhp, in 1963 the engine was enlarged to 2.8 and the power was raised to 136bhp. The suspension consists of unequal length double wishbones with coil springs at the front and a De Dion axle at the rear, based on the all-conquering D50, this combined with 50/50 weight distribution due to having the engine at the front, gearbox and differential (transaxle) at the rear, made for excellent handling with light and direct steering.This very good, left hand drive, Lancia Flaminia 3B with the V6, 2.8 Litre engine is believed to have been delivered to the Dominican Republic in 1968, then being registered in Belgium in the early 1970's. Purchased and imported to the UK in 2005 as an incomplete restoration project it had all the bodywork properly repaired and repainted. It was given to a Rolls-Royce marque specialist to complete. The owner of the specialists purchased the car in 2012 and while in his ownership he has had it fully maintained; including overhauling the Dunlop brakes, strip-down and restored the carburettors and getting a new complete exhaust system sent over from Italy. Also supplied with the car is a new windscreen. Finished in silver with original maroon leather interior this Flaminia 3B is supplied with a V5 registration document, the original French handbook and a file containing invoices, old MoT test certificates and the import documents since 2005. This very good and reliable example certainly represents good value for money against the Touring and Zagato bodied cars which these are sure to follow.
1998 Honda Integra Type R Transmission: manualMileage:65000In 1993 the Integra was launched as a €˜fairly vanilla' Coupé and in 1995 Honda introduced the world to the B18C Vtec engine and the Integra Type R (R for racing) was born. Not only did the car feature a red line just shy of 9000rpm and over 100bhp per litre, but every element of the cars performance was looked at. Anything unnecessary was removed, so out went air conditioning, sound deadening and even thinner glass and carpets were added to save weight, while elements to improve the performance were added. With a seam welded chassis, strengthened suspension mounting points, bespoke suspension and Recaro SR seats. The car received a modest front spoiler, rear wing and light weight alloy wheels and a titanium gear knob. It was three years later that the Type R made its way to UK shores with only 500 cars allocated and a slightly different frontend with round rather than square head lights. The driving experience of a Honda Integra Type R is ranked as one of the best of any vehicle. When the car ventures beyond 6000rpm the Vtec opens up and the modest four-cylinder engine changes with a soundtrack ranking along with cars with much higher cylinder counts. The gear change is positive, rifle bolt fast and with a 50/50 balanced chassis the feedback and grip are astonishing especially when you consider the car runs on 15€ 195 width tyres. The below quote from Richard Meaden from Evo issue 95 sums it up €˜It's a car as sweet and all-consuming as any I've experienced at any price, and as pure and focused in its own way as any Porsche RS. Forget the accolade of greatest front-wheel drive car. The Integra Type R ranks as one of the truly great drivers' cars of any kind'. This particular example was sourced by the vendor who wanted the best available, he purchased the car from the leading specialist Torque GT who in turn declared it was one of the best UK editions they have ever seen. It has been used sparingly and has been lavished with a no expense spared maintenance regime. Free from the rust that usually plagues the Integra, due to having no rust protection, this example has recently been cleaned and treated with a clear underbody protection by Rustbuster. Offered with extensive service records, 15 services conducted and many bills showing the works conducted, the car is largely standard with the exception of a stainless-steel exhaust system/manifolds, upgraded suspension (bushes, coil over dampers) and carbon intake (original air box supplied). Recent works include a top end rebuild, new brake calipers and a fresh set of Yokohama tyres. The car has received a stage three detail and full ceramic coat along with new badges. Parts are now becoming hard to source and finding a rust-free, low mileage, Integra is almost impossible and so this car represents somewhat a unicorn. Ready to drive with no known issues and having £1000's recently spent, this must rank as the best available in the UK.
1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Six Light Saloon by Park Ward Transmission: manualMileage:1475This very good Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Six Light Saloon by Park Ward, design number 144, body number N. 186 was built for Major Horace E. Dodge Jr., the party-loving playboy heir to the Dodge Motor Company in Detroit. At that time, he was living at St. Leonard's, Windsor, Berkshire the 18th century house which was purchased by his mother and remodelled into a 103-room villa. After he died the house was sold to Billy Smart, of circus fame. When he died it became part of Windsor Safari Park which is now Legoland Windsor with the mansion as its headquarters.The next owner was Frances Day, an American actress who was the €˜Toast of London' in the 1930's. George Bernard Shaw wrote €˜Boyant Billions' for her in 1949. The next owner was Roger David Marquis, the 2nd Earl of Woolton. In 1965 it was sold to Grooms Garages Ltd. After this the Silver Wraith was exported to the US, in 1989 it returned to the UK being imported and registered by William Faragher. Purchased by Ernest Boyce in 1990 to add to his fleet of wedding cars and in 1998 he had the car sent to marque specialists Eric Healey, who completely stripped back to bare metal and repainted it changing the original colour of grey to white over cream.Purchased by the vendor in 2004 having covered 73,716 miles, before his ownership the seats had been retrimmed getting a close match to the original maroon colour. In his ownership he has fully maintained and serviced the car including overhauling the engine, replacing the pistons and rings in 2015, stripped down, rebuilt the rear differential in 2018 and recently fitted four new tyres. This owner driver Silver Wraith Six Light Saloon is supplied with a V5 registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in October 2023 and a file containing copies of the original chassis cards, old registration documents and a note book detailing repairs carried out to the car since 2004. This is one of the most elegant post-war Rolls-Royce coachbuilt cars built for the owner driver or to be driven by a chauffeur.
1986 Austin Mini Mayfair Transmission: manualMileage:8467The Mini was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960s and its space-saving front wheel drive layout that allowed 80% of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage influenced a generation of car makers. In 1999, the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century behind the Ford Model T. This distinctive two-door car was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and was manufactured at the Longbridge and Cowley plants. The Mini Mk. I had three major UK updates; the Mk. II, the Clubman and the Mk. III. Within these were a series of variations including an estate car, a pick-up and a van. The Mini Cooper and Cooper 'S' were sportier versions that were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally four times from 1964 through to 1967. Initially Minis were marketed under the Austin and Morris names, as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini Minor until Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969. This excellent Austin Mini Mayfair is believed to have only covered 8,467 miles from new. The second owner inherited this Mini from her aunt in 2013 when it had covered 6,790 miles. At the time of the inheritance the car came without any documentation. The family kept the car until it was sold to the third owner when it was gone through and subjected to an expenditure of £740. Finished in silver with light blue interior, it can been seen by the overall condition that the mileage is probably correct. The car is supplied with a V5 registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in November 2023 and a small file containing old MoT's and a couple of invoices. Offered to auction without reserve, this is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a well-presented Mini Mayfair which is ready to be enjoyed by its new custodian.
2001 Jaguar XKR Convertible Transmission: automaticMileage:52096The XK8 is a grand tourer car that was launched in 1996 and was the first generation of a new XK series available in both Coupé and convertible body styles and with the new 4.0 litre Jaguar AJ-V8 engine. The 1998 XKR was introduced with a supercharged version of the engine. Both the XK8 and XKR are electronically limited to a maximum of 155mph; the top speed of its predecessor, the XJS V12, being 158mph. Self-levelling Xenon headlamps came as standard with the XKR with Jaguar's adaptive cruise control as an optional feature available on both models. Both come with all leather interior, burr walnut trim and side airbags. Jeremy Clarkson, during a Top Gear test drive, likened the interior of the original XK8 to sitting inside Blenheim Palace.This nice convertible example of this popular British classic is presented in Topaz metallic with beige leather interior and has a light brown electric hood. The car comes with air conditioning, electric/heated front seats and CD player. 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder Transmission: automaticMileage:22145Manufactured from 2003 to 2013 the Lamborghini Gallardo is important in the history of the Sant Agata firm as it represents the most successful model in their history. Both eminently usable and importantly, reliable, the V10 sportscar had total Audi backup which made it hugely desirable and subsequently, the most successful sportscar built from this particular Carrozzeria. Its secret lies in its light but stiff space frame chassis mounted to a five litre, V10 engine powering all four wheels on demand. Offered with two choices of transmission; a conventional six-speed manual transmission and an advanced six-speed electro-hydraulically controlled, semi-automatic which Lamborghini abbreviates to 'E-gear'. This allows the driver to make gear changes much faster than they could with a manual gearbox.Supplied originally by Lamborghini Birmingham on 1st September 2006, this Gallardo Spyder is finished in Blue Caelum Metallic with complementary blue leather trim. The original book pack is present and shows 11 stamps from Lamborghini Birmingham and marque specialists, the last service carried out was a major service on 25th March 2020 at 20,867 miles. At the same-time it was treated to new brake discs and pads all round and roof lubrication amounting to a spend of £5,900; invoices for this work can be found in the history file. 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Sport Coupé Transmission: manualMileage:101980Originally supplied by Waldron Motors Ltd in Kent, it passed through a number of owners before arriving with Porsche-enthusiast, Mr. John Keeling of Colwyn Bay in 2004 and registering 81,699 miles on the clock. He owned the car for 17 years and was extremely fastidious with maintenance before selling it on in 2021. This classic Guards Red example with contrasting black leather sports seats, black dashboard and steering wheel was originally specified with 16€ Fuchs alloy wheels, a limited slip differential, power steering, central locking and the highly desirable, five-speed, G50 gearbox. Internally, it also benefits from an electrically operated sunroof, a rear window wiper, electric mirrors and electric windows.2015 saw a full photographic brake system refurbishment with the anti-roll bar refurbished, drive shafts all restored or replaced at 99,639 miles. 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:4068There are some cars that epitomise design that transcends normal functionality, with advanced vision that predates wind tunnel technology and that even with modern resources, designers can often only dream of. There are just a handful of which we speak; for example, Jaguar's E-Type, Aston Martin's DB4 and the 190 SL belonging to Mercedes-Benz. Contrary to popular belief, both the 190 SL and its bigger brother, the 300 SL, hit the market at about the same time. Whilst there was the obvious power differential, many styling cues could be found on both cars, least of all the same level of detail and craftmanship that defines Mercedes-Benz. The 190 SL also took advantage of the same suspension underpinnings as the 300 SL thus affording it both confident handling and driveability.This extremely usable example presented here in €˜Fire Engine Red' with a matching red leather interior and period-correct carpets, appears to have had a full bare-metal restoration in approximately 1999 with photographic evidence to show. Between then and now parts and works have been undertaken from various suppliers including Mercedes-Benz Crystal Palace, SLS Mercedes-Benz in Hamburg (in German naturally) and highly respected SS Motors, Mercedes-Benz specialists in Weybridge. The vendor acquired it through Charles Ironside, a specialist of high standing with an equally high-quality threshold, back in 2010. More general maintenance followed with a major service in 2019 including gearshift cover strip down, propshaft out to trace a leak and heater system overhaul. New carpets were fitted by Surrey Trim in 2020 with a new mohair hood envelope at a cost of £3,120. Still complete with the original Becker Europa wireless and associated paperwork, a light service and fresh MoT test certificate will accompany, and this example also benefits from having the extremely rare and original hardtop with the desirable larger rear window offering elegant motoring to the next fortunate owner.
2003 Mercedes-Benz SL55 Transmission: automaticMileage:95356The fifth generation of the legendary SL series convertible sports cars was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof, a first for the SL class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 and SL65, both highly tuned versions of the SL500 and SL600 respectively. The SL55 was powered by a mighty supercharged version of the 5.5 litre, V8 which produced 493bhp and achieved 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph (governed). In theory, the SL55 could reach 190mph if the car was derestricted but, for many, the acceleration and top speed is impressive enough in its standard form! The Mercedes-Benz SL55 is no shrinking violet but the previous owner of this car was not satisfied and wanted to attract even more attention. A full wide body kit was used to convert the SL55 AMG to a recreation of the later Brabus SL65 Black Edition with the help of a professional ADAIR kit. Subject to a light category D insurance loss in 2013, ADAIR used this opportunity to facelift the headlights and expertly replace the panels with the wide body kit. The car today looks every part its £280,000 plus sibling, a real wolf in wolfs clothing and is described by our vendor as €˜an absolute goliath of a car'. We are informed that the engine has been breathed on with the intention of achieving 600bhp, however until dyno tested this is still an unknown, but it certainly feels very close to that figure. The incredible sound from the exhaust is enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end making this an exciting car to drive and own. We are also informed only one genuine SL65 Brabus Black Edition car exists and is held in a collection owned by the Dubai Royal family. An AMG super-charged V8 with the roof down is a perfect motoring scenario and so desired by fans of the SL Mercedes-Benz. 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC €˜Carat Duchatelet' Transmission: automaticMileage:97716Mercedes-Benz set out to build the best luxury car in the world and for the duration of the 1980s the W126 C-Class succeeded admirably in achieving this goal. The W126 model employed a new range of light alloy V8 engines and more aerodynamic shape over the previous S-Class, significantly improving fuel consumption. At the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show the flagship model was unveiled, badged the 560 SEC, with further mechanical improvements including dual-range (Sport and Economy) automatic transmission and revised 15€ alloy wheels and upgraded brakes. The lower body sills were redesigned, giving the SEC a cleaner look, while the 560 model benefited from 215/65 tyres, ABS, speed-sensitive suspension and various interior upgrades. The 560's M117 V8 engine was rated at 300bhp, with 325lb/ft of torque on tap, resulting in a top speed of 150mph with acceleration to match.Registered new on 31st May 1989 this example is offered in good order and has been upgraded to Carat Duchatelet specification. G. Kondratenko. Still life Lilac. A captivating elegy about the spring of Russian realism, the last quarter of the 19th century. Focuses on the colors of spring embraced by light and shadow. Two decaying branches form an irregular vertical quadrangle connected by a diagonal. It is especially sensitive to light and reveals itself with a subtle and multifaceted chord of lilac-blue, azure and yellow-brown tones. The artist is not afraid of difficult angles.
