18TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL AFTER THOMAS ROWLANDSON "The Coblers cure for a scolding wife", a naive study of a cobler, his wife and a maid holding light aloft, oil on canvas, unsigned, bears remnants of paper label verso, 30 cm x 23 cm CONDITION REPORTS N.B. change of catalogue description - AFTER THOMAS ROWLANDSON "The Coblers cure for a scolding wife", oil on canvas, unsigned, 30 cm x 23 cm. Bears old label verso inscribed ".....Cure for a scholding wi....". There have been suggestions that this is an over-painted print but, whilst it is clearly a copy of the original work, there are differences in the faces and posiitoning that suggest that it is a later but freehand copy. We can see no evidence of print technique but that is not to say that beneath the layers of oil it may be there. Certainly the paint appears to go the edge of the canvas and, under strong light/magnification, we can see no print technique. Condition otherwise - paint with craquelure all over. Some dents, scratches and surface dirt throughout. Frame very damaged requiring replacement, top part of frame missing - see images for further info

A 19th Century blue transfer decorated pottery table centre in five graduated sections, the upper section as a candlestick over a two-handled cup resting on a stand as a cover opening to reveal a pedestal lidded dish within a bowl with shell handles, over the base enclosing a three piece writing set of quill stand, pounce pot and lidded jar on a stand, all decorated with figures with cattle and sheep in a landscape or floral sprays, bearing maker's mark "TW" in hand-written script several times throughout, 49.5 cm high overall CONDITION REPORTS The candlestick component has been broken (taped on for the photograph). There is a chip to the rim of the twin-handled bowl and a minor chip to the foot. There are some signs of wear throughout and some wear and small chips to most pieces and some wear to the glaze, light scratches and scuffs. General signs of wear and tear throughout.

A pair of Royal Worcester cabinet plates, one centre field decorated with apples and strawberries, the other with peaches, grapes and strawberry, signed "R Sebright", within a gilt decorated royal blue border, inscribed verso with puce mark and "Maple", date marked for 1933, 22.5 cm diameter CONDITION REPORTS Condition generally good - some light scratches particularly visible to the blue cobalt border and some slight wear to the gilt work. The apples and strawberries plate - underneath the rim there is a very slight small chip - will attempt to photograph. The peaches and grapes plate - some scratches to the decoration with some possible repainting to the very small on one of the peaches. General limited signs of wear and tear throughout.

Light scratches throughout, some crazing to the back of the head, wear to the gilt work and small chip to the point of his foot. Lady figure - her head has been off and repaired, signs of glue. Light scratches. Her left hand has been remodelled and a fold of her dress has also been broken and repaired. Crazing throughout. A pair of Meissen onion pattern blue and white inverted pear shaped oil lamp bases with brass mounted reservoirs bearing blue cross swords marks and incised numbers "H190" to one and bue cross swords mark with blue "92" to the other with light fittings, 34 cm high excluding light fitting CONDITION REPORTS Have all over general wear, light surface scratching, in need of aclean, small firing faults. The glaze is worn at the base of one of the lamps, but this appears to be more during firing than anything later. One has a brass clip detached from the lamp fitting. The brass has pitting, corrosion, surface scratching etc, otherwise general wear conducive with age and use.

Cracks to the body. A large area of loss to the enamel to the base and a dent to the base. Accretions, tarnishing to the metal, areas of dirt, surface scratches etc. The ovoid vase has areas of staining, accretions, surface scratches. There is a chip to one side of the vase near the flower decoration. Cracks towards the base. The parasol handle has extensive cracking all the way along. A large area of loss to the middle of the handle all the way down to the copper. Surface scratches, accretions, staining, dirt etc. The inkwell has numerous large cracks and areas of loss, accretions, surface scratches. The lid is detached. Numerous cracks on the underside of the lid. The green ground lidded dish has accretions, dirt, numerous cracks, some areas of loss to the outside edges. Tarnishing of the metal. Cracks to the inside of the lid and also to the inside of the base. Cracks to the outer base, some quite large. Tarnishing to the metal also. The cigarette case has numerous cracks to both sides. Tarnishing of the metal, staining, discoloiuration, accretions, build-up of dirt on the inside. The oblong silver ground lidded dish has surface scratches, discolouration, accretions, tarnishing to the metal, cracks to the inside of the lid, cracks to the outside. The main body of the dish has cracks to the inside edges and the inside walls of the dish. Tarnishing of the metal, accretions, discolouration, staining and cracks to the outside. All items show extensive wear and tear - see images for details
