The Abbey copy contains 11 plates but notes that the final plate is not by Marklove and is on thicker paper therefore probably an addition. Other copies all state 10 plates.
Carter (A. C. R.) The Year's Art: A Concise Epitome of All Matters relating to the Arts of Painting, Sculpture, Engraving and Architecture, 5 vol., a broken run, all but 1933, half-titles, plates, two typed letters signed by Joseph Duveen to the author loosely inserted, dated 1932 and 1934, very occasional light foxing, advertisement endpapers with margins lightly toned, contemporary uniform navy crushed morocco, gilt, very lightly rubbed, spines slightly sunned, g.e., 8vo, 1932-7.⁂ In the two letters, influential British art dealer Joseph Duveen thanks the author for sending 'the annual addition to your wonderful series of The Year's Art'. One letter is signed Joe Duveen, the other Joe.

In his dedication to the Countess Dowager of Shrewsbury he mentions, "the vacant Hours pleasingly employed in preparing and printing the Work, (my first Performance)". The additional item in the lot refers to this one in a footnote by J.G.Nichols on p.349: "a literary curiosity of great rarity".Library Hub records 6 copies and the collation calls for a final leaf but this is not present here nor in an online text.Listed by Harris in his Country House Index (second edition) but not by Holmes in The Country House Described: An Index to the Country Houses of Great Britain and Ireland, 1986.

A second volume was planned but only 15 plates were completed by 1815. The work is important for depicting mainly lesser-known houses. It also includes a view of Oxenford Castle after Robert Adam (plate 14), and Bradwell Lodge by Malton with figures by Rowlandson (plate 35).

This is the issue including engraved plates of the various temples and monuments and is rarely seen in large paper format.The second records the 1848 sale of the majority of the great art collection at Stowe following the bankruptcy of the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, who was rumoured to have left for the Continent with debts exceeding £1,000,000. It totalled £75,562 4s 6d over 35 days, and included the famous "Chandos Portrait" of Shakespeare which sold to the Earl of Ellesmere for £372 15s. and in 1856 became the first donation to the newly-created National Portrait Gallery.

Theatre.- Shakespeare forgeries.- Malone (Edmond) An Inquiry into the Authenticity of Certain Miscellaneous Papers and Legal Instruments, Published Dec. 24, MDCCXCV. And Attributed to Shakspeare, Queen Elizabeth and Henry, Earl of Southampton, first edition, half-title, 3 folding engraved plates, 2 ff. 'Prospectus' at end, little offsetting from plates, occasional spotting, lightly browned, light brown crushed morocco, gilt, by Rivière & Son, some light fading, 8vo, Printed by H. Baldwin for T. Davies (successors to Mr. Cadell,) in the Strand, 1796.⁂ In 1794 William Henry Ireland claimed to have unearthed a quantity of Shakespearean manuscripts, which were pronounced as genuine by a number of scholars. However, here the great Shakespeare authority Malone conclusively proves that the documents in question were forgeries.

(11)⁂ Ammerdown, in Kilmersdon, Somerset, was built in 1788 by James Wyatt for Thomas Samuel Jolliffe. It was enlarged in 1855 and 1877 and alterations made in 1901, possibly by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The plates include views of the house, the Ammerdown Column, and T.S.Jollife with Professor Cornillot and his balloon prior to them making their ballooning ascent at Seal in Kent in 1825.
Cornwall.- Condy (Nicholas) & Rev. Francis Vyvyan Jago Arundell. Cothele on the banks of the Tamar, the ancient Seat of the Rt.Hon.ble the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, hand-coloured lithographed pictorial title, lithographed dedication and plan, 16 hand-coloured tinted lithographed plates by Day & Haghe after Condy, a few leaves with small tears at edges repaired, light offsetting to verso of plates, Henry Fox Talbot's copy with presentation inscription "from his affectionate sister Caroline /Mount Edgcumbe 1st January 1847" to front free endpaper, endpapers foxed, original blue cloth with Mount Edgcumbe arms in gilt to upper cover, rather rubbed and faded, handsomely rebacked and cornered in blue straight-grain morocco, spine ruled in gilt, [Abbey, Scenery 414], folio, [c.1840].⁂ Excellent association copy of this work on Cothele, a medieval house with Tudor additions in Cornwall, which has changed little over the last five centuries.William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-77), inventor and pioneer of photography. Through his mother's second marriage to Admiral Charles Feilding he had two half-sisters, Caroline Augusta (1808-81) and Henrietta Horatia (1810-51). Caroline married Lord Valletort, later 3rd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, on 6th December 1831.
Slavery.- [Newton (John)] An Authentic Narrative of some Remarkable and Interesting Particulars in the Life of ⁂⁂**...in a Series of Letters to the Reverend Mr.Thomas Haweis, ?first edition, engraved frontispiece, folding engraved map of the coast of Guinea, 4pp. advertisements at end, light staining to title, contemporary ink signature of Mary Ann Johnson to front free endpaper, contemporary sheep with double gilt fillet border, rubbed, splits to joints, 8vo, R.Hett, for J.Johnson, 1764.⁂ Very rare. John Newton (1725-1807) was a captain of slave ships, who himself spent some time as a slave in Sierra Leone, but later repented of his deeds and became an Evangelical preacher and prominent abolitionist. With the support of Thomas Haweis he was appointed curate at Olney in Buckinghamshire and later rector of St.Mary Woolnoth in London where he associated with Hannah More and William Wilberforce. He is best known today for writing the hymn 'Amazing Grace'.Library Hub records several editions but most appear to be second editions or later, with only one printed copy (National Library of Scotland) of the first edition. WorldCat adds a copy in the British Library and one in the State Library of New South Wales. We have been unable to trace any copy of a 1764 edition at auction.
