The gilt frame is serviceable but a little scuffed and scratched in places, replacement might be a consideration.

Possibly painted by George Gower (1540-1596) or Robert Peake (1551-1619). PROVENANCE - This painting was found in the attic of Harts House, Gloucester Road, Almondsbury, Near Bristol, in 1949 by Cyril Quantick when he purchased the seven bedroom manor house which dates from the 16th century. The painting has remained in the same family since that date. CONDITION REPORT: This painting is in extremely good order having recently been cleaned. UV light shows very little in the way of blemishes. The face is in generally good order with minor marks to the forehead and to the right hand side of the right hand facing eye. There is more significant blemishing below the nose and beneath the bottom lip and around the chin. The ruff is in generally good condition with only minor marking to the right hand side of the panel join. The hands are in generally good order. The right had cuff has a small blemish however the remainder of the costume is in generally good order and we can see very little evidence of any further marks on the surround. There is a visible panel join running to the right hand side of the face down through the costume and through the fingers of her left hand. UV light makes this join appear more significant than it is in the flesh.
