On 15 December 1941 before midnight Galatea was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-557 off Alexandria, Egypt with the loss of 470 crew.
An original WWII Second World War Third Reich Nazi German Kriegsmarine Auxiliary Cruiser badge. The badge depicting a Viking longship sailing over the northern hemisphere of the globe surrounded by a laurel wreath of oak leaves. The national Eagle and Swastika to the top. Light remains of the gilt. Consigned by the family of a British soldier and believed to have been taken from a German POW from a camp in Bristol.

antique Japanese Edo period armor of an "Ashigaru". The Ashigaru ("light [of] foot") were infantry soldiers in the service of the samurai in feudal Japan. This armor includes a "Do" (cuirass) and thigh pads ("kusazari"). The latter consist of lacquered metal plates strung together with macramé cords ("odoshi"). Accompanied by a "jingasa", being a cone-shaped hat that was worn by both samurai and ashigaru - with matching chest. || JAPAN - EDO-PERIODE (17° - 19° EEUW)antiek harnas van een "Ashigaru". De Ashigaru ("licht [van] voet") waren infanteriesoldaten in dienst van de samoerai in het feodale Japan. Deze wapenuitrusting omvat een "Do" (kuras) en dijbeschermstukken ("kusazari").
