Rare vintage signed and inscribed postcard photograph, being a reproduction of a head and shoulders portrait of the actress by the artist Dorothy McMillan. Signed by Hull in dark fountain pen ink to the lower white border, `To Richard Erickson, with best wishes, Josephine Hull` adding `Harvey` and the date 1947 in her hand. Some small pinholes to the corners and edges of the white borders and some light scuffing to the right edge, G Hull won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Veta Louise Simmons in the 1950 film Harvey. She had originally played the character on the Broadway stage.

Rutherford states that she was delighted to receive her correspondent`s letter and to learn that `your 3 year old son had enjoyed the Beatrix Potter stories`. The actress also refers to her correspondent`s mother (`She was such a high light in our Wimbledon Amateur Theatre`) and in a postscript comments `Yes,-Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle was my favourite`. Together with Sybil Thorndike (1882-1976) English Actress. Two A.Ls.S., Sybil Thorndike, three pages (total), 4to, Carlyle Square, London, 26th April & 11th May n.y., both to Mrs. Willard, in one thanking her for her generous donation and commenting `The Old Vic is a wonderful place & Lilian Baylis a wonderful woman`. The partially printed cheque is drawn on the California Bank and is made payable to Sego Murakami for the sum of $171.48. An extremely light bank cancellation barely affects Flynn`s signature. VG Interestingly, the swashbuckling actor Flynn has made the cheque payable to the judo pioneer Sego Murakami, who has signed the verso in the form of an endorsement.

WEST MAE: (1893-1980) American Actress & Sex Symbol. An excellent, unusual vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of West in a glamorous head and shoulders pose. Signed in bold black fountain pen ink across a light area of the image, `For the Marius Risley Collection-Webster International Dictionary: Mae West, (after American actress) a life-saving jacket worn by flyers...Mae West` and dated 28th September 1954 in her hand. A small authentication sticker is affixed in the lowetr right corner. Rare in this form. A couple of very light, minor corner creases, otherwise VG The Mae West was a common nickname for the first inflatable life preserver. The nickname was originated because someone wearing the inflated life preserver often appeared to be as physically endowed as the actress Mae West as well as rhyming slang for breast. It was popular during World War II with American Army Air Forces and Royal Air Force servicemen, who were issued inflatable Mae Wests as part of their flight gear. Air crew members whose lives were saved by use of the Mae West (and other personal flotation devices) were eligible for membership in the Goldfish Club.
MONROE MARILYN: (1926-1962) American Actress & Sex Symbol. A superb vintage signed and inscribed 11 x 14 photograph of Monroe in a classic, alluring head and shoulders pose. The photograph dates from the time of Monroe`s appearance in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). Signed in bold blue ink across a light area of the image, `Jack-You certainly can-and I`m not mad! Marilyn`. An intriguing inscription, apparently to the choreographer Jack Cole. Signed photographs of this size and quality are rarely encountered. Some very light, extremely minor age wear to the extreme edges, VG Jack Cole (1911-1974) American Dancer and Choreographer, famous for his work in Hollywood with Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell and Rita Hayworth among others. He worked on several of Monroe`s movies including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) is a film adaptation of the musical and starred Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. Monroe appeared in the role of the gold-digging Lorelei Lee and her rendition of the song Diamonds Are a Girl`s Best Friend is considered an iconic performance of the silver screen.

DIETRICH MARLENE: (1901-1992) German-born American Actress & Singer. Small collection of signed postcard photographs and slightly larger, brief A.L.S. and T.L.S. etc., the photographs depicting Dietrich in identical head and shoulders poses, two signed with her surname to light areas and one bearing a rubber stamped signature, although with a brief A.N.S. to the verso, `Sorry-no time for interviews, Dietrich`, another with a note in her hand to the verso inviting the recipient back stage. Also including a signed and inscribed 8vo programme for a performance by Dietrich at the Edinburgh International Festival, 1965, and a pale cream fine linen handkerchief, apparently previously belonging to Dietrich. Pollard (C. W. Moss), Gene Hackman (Buck Barrow) and Estelle Parsons (Blanche Barrow). The actors are seen standing together in full length poses in character costume, most holding guns in their hands. Signed by each in blue or black inks, largely across light areas of the image and all legible. EX. . . . Estelle Parsons won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Bonnie and Clyde and all four other actors who have signed the present photograph received Academy Award nominations for their roles.

A wonderful original hand painted colour animation cel used in the production of Disney`s Pinocchio (1940), the image showing Pinocchio standing in a full length pose alongside a female blonde puppet on strings, dressed in traditional Dutch costume and clogs. Matted in the original cream board to an overall size of 18 x 16 and signed by Disney in bold green crayon with his name alone to the lower mount beneath the lower right corner of the cel. The original printed certificate from Courvoisier Galleries in San Francisco is taped to the verso and states, in part, `This is an original painting on celluloid, actually used in the Walt Disney production of Pinocchio. It is one of a select few that have been released to art collectors. The remainder have been destroyed.` A highly attractive and desirable signed Disney cel. LAUREL STAN (1890-1965) & HARDY OLIVER (1892-1957) English and American Film Comedians. An unusual D.S. by both Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy individually, one page, oblong 8vo, Dublin, 18th September 1953. The partially printed document is receipt form supplied by the Provincial Bank of Ireland Ltd in which the comedians acknowledge receipt of the sum of £300 received from the account of Bernard Delfont Agency Limited. Signed by both Laurel and Hardy at the base in dark fountain pen inks. With purple rubber stamp cancellation of the bank and an Eire revenue stamp dated in Laurel`s hand. Some light folds and creasing and two file holes to the left edge, not affecting the text or signatures. About VG. . . . . . . The receipt was evidently issued, presumably for salaries or expenses, in relation to Laurel and Hardy`s forthcoming British tour with their sketch entitled Birds of a Feather. The comedians had arrived in Ireland on 9th September in order to rehearse and prepare for the tour.

WILLIAMS KENNETH: (1926-1988) English Comic Actor, star of Carry On films. Small collection of four A.Ls.S. and a T.L.S., Kenneth, each one page, 8vo, Osnaburgh Street, London, 1972-1979, all to Rae. Williams thanks his correspondent for Christmas cards and writes largely social letters about mutual friends including the writer Peter Nichols etc., in part, `I`m off tomorrow on this cruise cos my mother wants to see Senegal etc.` (12th December 1974), commenting on Val Orford, `I haven`t seen him since about `72 & I remember thinking then that he had hardly changed at all. You know that sort of lean, well preserved look that vegetarians have? I mean, he`s not a vegetarian but he looks like one. A nut cutlet.` (27th February 1975), referring again to his mother, `Louie has asked me to say a warm thank you for your lovely gift. It was the ONLY bright spot in our dismal return on Friday from strike-ridden Tenerife, aircraft delays, & endless trouble of one kind & another....It`s the last time I will do anything about winter holidays I can tell you!` (31st December 1978) and in the final letter announcing `I can`t write! Never stop telling publishers that I am not in that business. Am in the throes of a new play at Greenwich, rehearsing every day (& playing at night) & shortly touring.` (7th September 1979). Together with Stanley Baxter (1926- ) Scottish Comic Actor. An interesting A.L.S., Stanley, on two sides of his correspondence card, Highgate Village, London, 9th July 1988, to Rae, referring to the death of Kenneth Williams, in part, `I agree with Freud that the remarks made by the pathologist after the coroner`s `open` verdict were unnecessary & insensitive. However I AM convinced that Ken did take his own life, although I would never admit publicly to this view. He spoke about suicide so often to me-and I`m sure it all happened in a fit of despair in the middle of the night. He simply wasn`t thinking of the consequences of his will-which is the silliest will I`ve ever read. For all his great brain power-and it was formidable-he could be unbelievably perverse and neurotic at times as you must remember. The price of chastity outside a religious habit! A heavy vertical fold runs through the centre of Baxter`s card, only very slightly affecting the text. Some light surface creasing to the other letters, G to about VG, 6 Kenneth Williams first performed in the Combined Services Entertainment alongside Stanley Baxter and Peter Nichols.

The image depicts James (Vic Flange), Windsor (Sadie Tomkins) and Whitfield (Evelyn Blunt) standing in full length poses alongside many of the other Carry On cast members in a scene from Carry On Abroad (1972). Signed in bold black ink by James (`Be lucky David! Sid James`) and Windsor (`To David, Good luck to your restaurant, luv, Barbara x`) and in blue ink by Whitfield (`David dear, We`ll be here one day soon-Good luck & love from June`), each to clear areas of the image. The four comic actors are seen in a group pose in character costume. Signed by each in bold black inks to light areas of the image, Sachs also adding his character name. Professionally matted in brown and cream, the matt cut with the name of the show. Framed and glazed in a wooden frame to an overall size of 14 x 20.5. VG

ASTAIRE FRED (1899-1987) American Actor & Dancer & ROGERS GINGER (1911-1995) American Actress & Dancer, both Academy Award winners. Fred Astaire signed 8 x 10 photograph depicting him standing in a three quarter length pose in later years. Signed in bold black ink with his name alone to the left white border; Ginger Rogers signed 8 x 10 photograph showing her in a full length dance pose alongside Astaire in a scene from one of their films. Signed in bold black ink to a light area at the base of the image and dated 1993 in her hand. VG, 2
MY FAIR LADY: Signed 8 x 10 photograph by both Audrey Hepburn (Eliza Doolittle) and Rex Harrison (Professor Henry Higgins) individually, the image depicting the Oscar winning actors dancing together in a three quarter length pose in a scene from the 1964 musical film My Fair Lady. Signed by Hepburn in bold black ink and by Harrison in bold blue ink, both with their names alone to light areas of the image. EX. . Rex Harrison won a Best Actor Academy Award for his role in this film, which won a further seven Oscars in 1964 including Best Picture.
