Autograph letter signed 'Edward Elgar', Forli, Malvern, 16 April 1895, to Novello & Co., returning proofs of the two part-songs for ladies' voices, asking for a footnote on the first page of each of them 'to the effect that the violin accompaniments are procurable separately', giving a further suggestion for a printed note with a view to assisting the sales of extra violin copies, indicating that he has made a note on the proofs relating to the turn-overs and where best that the music on pages 2 and 3 should begin and end, with a small diagram, hoping that the works will be ready in early May 'so that I can introduce them for use during the next school term', and referring to an enclosure [no longer present] giving a list of affiliated schools, 4 pages, publisher's ink acknowledgement mark and date stamp at head of first page and blue pencil line to final page, light vertical crease, 8vo (1)
