The incised B is partial but it is of note as B Troop served in the Crimean War.

UNION ST. GLASGOW, regulation gilt mounted hilt, the collar decorated with a panel of thistles, the pommel cap decorated to match and set with a faceted orange stone, carved basket weave grip rising to a spherical top decorated with leaves on a stippled ground, set with white metal studs, contained in its gilt metal mounted leather scabbard, the upper mount applied with the badge of the Highland Light Infantry and decorated with a border of thistles on a stippled ground, the remaining mounts decorated with thistles, complete with companion knife and fork decorated and set with stones to match.

MACLENNAN GLASGOW HIGHLANDERS, regulation plated hilt composed of flattened bars united by heart pierced junction plates, red faced chamois liner, incised dome pommel, wire bound fishskin grip, red silk tassel, contained in its plated mounted field service scabbard. A nice clean sword.

May 1872" and two Maw & Co email ombrant tiles (3) Sir Reginald Francis Douce Palgrave (1829-1904) Clerk of the House of Commons was the son of Sir Francis Palgrave and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of the banker and antiquary Dawson Turner FRS, FSA. Palgrave was a keen watercolourist and "...for an amateur an exceptionally skilful modeller in low relief" (source: DNB). He married, in 1857, Grace Battley. Palgrave was a cousin of Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker, for whom he modelled memorial tablets to Hooker's father, Sir William Jackson Hooker (1785-1865) and wife Francis (d.1874) Sarpedon tile - slight graze upper right corner

Margaret Woods married on 22 March 1769, Joseph Woods (1738-1812), Quaker, merchant and a "gentleman of literary tastes". He was a prominent member of The Anti-Slavery Society An old inscription on the backboard of the watercolour, painted by Margaret Woods (1778-1868) between 1802 and 1805.
