PUNJAB MEDAL, one clasp Chilianwala SERJT G FIELDING 24TH FOOT Provenance: The recipient thence by descent to the present vendor. Roll confirms 2250 Sergeant George Fielding of the 24th Regiment was wounded at Chilianwala on 13 January 1849. He was entitled to the Chilianwala clasp only. Of the 1060 men of the 24th Foot who fought on that day, 524 became casualties. The heavy losses were incurred as a result of being sent in to attack well in advance of the rest of their brigade, being ordered not to fire the while and being exposed to the fire of the Sikh guns and infantry when unsupported. ++Very good condition with light wear, the naming fine, not hitherto offered for sale
