A silver mounted hipflask, hallmarks for Sheffield 1919 Frederick C Asman & Co, with leather bound glass body, silver base cup (monogrammed 'JVD') and hinged silver lid, 15.5cm high x 9.5cm wide CONDITION REPORT: Lot 100 - Light scratches from use, silver base cup is monogrammed JVD, generally all good condition, cap hinge is functional and working, with cork all intact. Leather all intact, just a couple of pin hole scratches. Can't be sure that flask is watertight, however it certainly looks in fully functioning condition.

He trained at Chelsea School of Art, and studied lithography with Harold Jones. Moving to Cambridge in 1950 he taught art whilst supporting his family and continuing his practice as an artist. He specialised in watercolours and drawing, but especially in lithography, creating limited edition lithographs drawn by hand on stone and printed on his own Victorian press. He worked in a realistic style that showed his fine draughtsmanship, choosing a wide range of subjects, including a number of Cambridge scenes, some of which were commissioned by the Colleges, others chosen as an opportunity to explore form and light. He exhibited mainly in London and East Anglia and has work in the Government Collection as well as in private collections around the world.
