The original edition contained 40 plates and was dedicated to His Majesty King George the Third. The popularity of the series can be judged by the fact that it was copied almost in its entirety by other potters. Cf. A.W. Coysh and R.K. Henrywood pp.187-188.

Together with a similar, but for the Great North Of Scotland Railway dated November 1897. This one contains 9 Sheets to include: Widenening & Improving the Railway between Keith and Dufftown, Longmorn to Elgin, Elgin to Lossie Junction and Park to Banchory. LNER 12" Drop Dial Clock manufactured by Seth Thomas, USA. Ex MANOR POWIS Signalbox between Cambus and Stirling on the original Stirling & Dunfermline Railway. The clock is in working order but the glass is missing from the bottom door. Inside the door is the original Seth Thomas Instruction sheet pasted to the backboard and also the small LNER numberplate 15879. Accompanying is a couple of colour photographs of the signalman, Jim Drysdale with the very clock in the background (painted in Scottish light blue colour).
Totem, BR(W) DAWLISH, F/F. Ex GWR station on the South Devon Coast where rail meets sea along the famous and wonderfully picturesque 'sea-wall'. The totem is in lovely condition with deep colour and shine and no fading. It has a few expertly repaired chips that doesn't detract at all. A very rare opportunity to acquire this quality totem. Chances are, if ever another comes to light, it won't be in this condition. The severity of the local environment would have taken its toll but this one looks as though it was well protected beneath a canopy or shelter. Quite wonderful and only ever once before at major auction, 17 years ago (and that was a rough one)
BR Station Platform Lamp Diffuser HARROW & WEALDSTONE, maroon raised lettering on opaque white background. Excellent example measuring 69" x 9" which was the regulation size for these along the West Coast Main Line. They did of course, replace Totems on many of the stations and when they come complete with metal rim, as this one does, they make stunning light covers for the workshop, garage or railway room. This location, north of Euston was the location of the train disaster in 1952 when Duchess 'City Of Glasgow' ran through a red signal, into the rear of a commuter train. The resulting mayhem was exacerbated by a double-headed express, headed by the Turbomotive Princess Royal 'Princess Anne' and Jubilee 'Windward Islands', ploughing into the wreckage.
