A Russian silver cigarette case, the lid in repousse with a Boyar wearing a fur trimmed coat and holding a staff, seated in a room perhaps inspired by the Romanoff Boyar house in Zaryadye Moscow, 11cm, by the 15th Artel, Moscow 1908-c1910, 5ozs 12dwts Another example,  identical but for an enamelled background to the scene,  also by the 15th Artel is in the collection of The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore. The subject of the boyar is based on Konstantin Makovski's lost picture executed in 1913 for the tercentenary of the Russian Empire. The subject is the central figure in Makovski's The Boyar Wedding. The Romanoff Boyar House in Moscow had recently been unrestored by the goldsmith and Faberge workmaster Fedor Ruckett. Light wear, light scratches on back, red cabochon push piece holding, no play in hinge, no splits or repair
