A set of four late 19th/early 20th century reverse carved intaglio buttons, each oval cabochon intaglio carved and painted to depict a sporting theme, comprising a jockey on racehorse, a huntsman on horseback, a duck amongst reeds and a fish, with mother of pearl backing, stamped '18', length 1.55cmSome of the intaglios have patchy brownish staining/residue to the back, most notably to the huntsman on horseback. Painted decoration is mostly crisply defined and the colours are fairly vibrant. Each of the intaglios has scuffs, nicks and light scratches to the surface of the cabochon. The mounts have general surface wear, chips and scuffs, with occasional dings and small areas of pitting. Each panel measures approx. 1.55cm length x 1.3cm width. Metal standard is untested. The cabochon has a double star effect and the main star is off-centre. Dimensions of ruby approx. 11.9mm length x 8.8mm width x 5.8mm depth. Diamonds have variable colour and clarity, some stones with chips/nicks and surface-reaching fractures, estimated SI1 to P1 clarity and I to L colour, assessed mounted. Old-cut diamonds graduate from approximately 0.10ct to 0.01ct in size. The pearl is untested for natural/cultured origin and has light surface wear with shallow blemishes, measuring approx. 6mm length x 4.5mm width. The mount is unmarked and has signs of general wear, chips and scuffs, with patchy thinning and tarnishing, and is missing a detachable fitting. Width of panel 2.6cm. Gross weight approx. 6.9gm.

A late 19th/early 20th century diamond spray brooch, designed as a spray of graduated old, rose and lasque-cut diamond set foliage, two colour precious metal mounted, with French owl and swan gold and silver import marks, detachable brooch pin fitting and later clasp, (two diamonds deficient), principal diamond weight approximately 0.40ct, length 5.8cmThe principal old-cut diamond is fairly bright and lively but contains surface-reaching fractures and is drawing a light yellowish tint, with estimated P1 to P2 clarity and K to L colour, assessed mounted. Principal diamond dimensions approx. 5mm length x 4.5mm width x 2.7mm depth. Remaining diamonds are a combination of rose and lasque-cut diamonds, most stones with chips and surface-reaching fractures, some stones with yellowish and greyish tints and irregular outlines. Two of the diamonds appear to have been glued into place and are bordered by yellowish residue. Two diamonds are missing and the settings have considerable wear, with patchy thinning to the metal. One of the foliate panels has a fine split to the back. The mount has general surface wear throughout and patchy tarnishing, with areas of possible solder repair. Marks to the mount are fairly clear but metal standard is untested. The brooch pin is indistinctly marked and functioning but the clasp is a little loose fitting. The brooch pin detaches and the frame can be separated into two sections, but the safety clasp is fixed and later replaced. Gross weight approx. 10.2gm.

A late 19th century Indian vari gem-set fringe necklace, designed as five strands of baroque seed pearls with green bead spacers, each suspending a fringe of faceted and cabochon-cut gemstones and coloured stones with pearl drops below, to include rubies, sapphires, emeralds, moonstones, coral corallium rubrum and turquoises, with vari gem-set terminals, the cushion-shaped cluster clasp with orange and white pastes in foiled closed-back settings, (pearls untested for origin), in fitted case signed 'PROCTER'S INDIAN ART GALLERY, 428, OXFORD ST, LONDON', shortest length 39cmThis lot is from the estate of Edward Alfred Alexander Baldwin (1938 - 2021). Edward was the grandson of Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, and the fourth Earl Baldwin of Bewdley. Stanley Baldwin was from an extraordinary family: Rudyard Kipling was his first cousin, Edward Burne-Jones and Edward Poynter were both uncles, his mother Louisa was a novelist, and her siblings included the famous Macdonald sisters. Edward Baldwin was committed to rehabilitating his grandfather's reputation and, being an only child, spent much of his life as sole custodian of these family objects.All stones and pastes have surface wear, some stones with sizeable chips, fractures and deeper scuffs/scratches. All stones are untested for origin and use of treatments/enhancements. Most of the rubies and sapphires contain multiple inclusions such as feathers, fissures, crystals and angular colour zoning, some with surface-reaching fractures. The emeralds contain fissures, fractures and crystals, again with some surface-reaching fractures. Stones vary in colour and hue. Most of the seed pearls and blister pearls have blemishes, creases and scuffs, some with losses to the nacre surface. The paste clasp has patchy discolouration to the foiled backing, general wear to the mount, and a small split/crease to the tongue. The clasp is currently functioning. The clasp cluster measures approx. 22mm length x 20.3mm width. The woven fabric fittings have areas of possible glue residue to the ends and stringing to the strands is a little loose in places. Most of the collet settings either side of the clasp (to the triangular clusters) are dented and mis-shapen, with splits and creases. The other collet settings to the fringe strands have fewer dents and dings, with occasional creases and splits. The mounts are untested as gold/gilt metal/silver-gilt. The largest stone to the fringe is a cabochon ruby with a faint and off-centre star effect, measuring approx. 9.7mm length x 7.5mm width x 3.3mm depth. The longest strand measures approx. 52.5cm from end to end, including the clasp and woven fittings, the shortest measures approx. 39cm. Gross weight approx. 69gm. The case has general wear, patchy losses to the exterior finish and patchy light staining to the interior. The clasp is missing to the case and the cushion doesn't sit tightly to the base.

Diamonds graduate from approx. 0.01ct to 0.03ct in size. The safety clasp to the mount has been pushed inwards and requires adjustment/repair, but the pin is functioning. The mount otherwise has surface wear, with solder joins visible at junctions within the frame and to the fittings, assumed to be part of manufacture. KNIGHTSBRIDGE, LONDON, total weight of old-cut diamonds approximately 2.10ct, length 5.2cmCarlo and Arthur Giuliano inherited their father's renowned jewellery business in 1895, operating from premises in Piccadilly, where they manufactured and retailed jewellery in the Revivalist style that he had become celebrated for. In 1912 the Giuliano brothers relocated their shop to 48 Knightsbridge, from where the business traded until Arthur's death in August 1914, which forced its doors to close.This lot is from the estate of Edward Alfred Alexander Baldwin (1938 - 2021). Edward was the grandson of Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, and the fourth Earl Baldwin of Bewdley. Stanley Baldwin was from an extraordinary family: Rudyard Kipling was his first cousin, Edward Burne-Jones and Edward Poynter were both uncles, his mother Louisa was a novelist, and her siblings included the famous Macdonald sisters. Edward Baldwin was committed to rehabilitating his grandfather's reputation and, being an only child, spent much of his life as sole custodian of these family objects.The brooch pin appears to be a later addition and the fitted case suggests that the mount may previously have had an alternative fitting, with arrow-shaped terminal. The mount is not signed. Diamonds are bright and lively, with slightly variable colour and clarity, some stones with chips and surface-reaching fractures and yellowish or greyish tints. The old-cut diamonds graduate from approximately 0.005ct to 0.04ct in size. Estimated SI1 to P2 clarity and H to L colour, assessed mounted. Sapphires are well matched, of milky light blue hues, both containing natural inclusions and with surface wear. Each cabochon measures approx. 2.2mm diameter. The mount has surface wear, scuffs and nicks/chips, with considerable tarnishing. The sides of the mount have areas of porosity. Metal standard is untested but the mount appears to be gold and silver. Width of mount approx. 1.85cm, depth including fitting approx. 1.3cm. Gross weight approx. 16.7gm. The case has dark staining to the cushion, some dark spotting/staining to the signature on the lining and general wear scuffs and small losses to the exterior finish.
