Chetwynd's Patent 'Faithful Freddie' submarine binnacle by Dobbie McInnes Ltd, Glasgow, No 25965/06:, the 3 inch liquid filled compass signed as per title in a brass gimbaled mount, azimuth ring with spirit bubble, prism, shades and mirrors, the domed cover with handle and opposing observation windows, the wooden case with flinders bars and compensation balls, numbered '1672H' to body, with knurled light adjust aperture over sliding brass access door, fitted electrical connector to one side and mounted on a brass foot ring, 46cm high.
An Ernst Leitz Wetzlar brass and lacquer microscope:, No 209079, signed as per title, coarse and fine rack and pinion focus with three objectives, over circular stage with fine adjustment, condenser with adjustable iris, on a black lacquered stand, together with accessories in a fitted wooden case, also a Cook & Perkins, binocular attachment, a Czechoslovakian microscope light and one other light.
A Victorian brass telescope, 84.5 cm long max on a folding tripod stand CONDITION REPORTS Lenses are dirty. If you look through the telescope from the scope end you cannot you see through it - it is completely black - you can see light and dark but absolutely nothing else. However if you look through the other end you can clearly see light and items through it. The body of the telescope itself has general wear and tear and some knocks, bumps, surface scratches, etc. Stand is roughly cast. Missing what appears to be several screws to the telescopic stand.
An early 20th Century lacquered brass and tin plate magic lantern bearing plaque inscribed "Patent No. 245", together with approx 160 slides various including tribal images, the Transvaal War, tale of a tub, cats, historical figures, world travel, naval, zeppelins, etc and one volume "Illustrated Catalogue of Magic, Optical & Dissolving View Lanterns Lime-light Apparatus and Slides Season 1900-1901", tooled cloth board bound
A 19th Century black lacquered and gilt decorated Chinese Qing Dynasty polychrome painted fan decorated with multiple figures in court setting (faces superimposed on ivory, some flags and cloth elements of the picture superimposed on silk and clothing) CONDITION REPORTS Some light surface scratches to the sticks and guards. The leaf has wear and areas of loss to the paint at the creases. Wear to the edge of the fan and some small areas of loss to the banding at the edge. Some minor splits to the edge of the leaf as well. Some fraying and discoluration to the silk used for the clothes on the figures. General wear and tear commensurate with age and use. See photos for more details.There are some tears to the paper throughout, three faces, one on one side and two on the other appear to be replacements or at least had some work done. There is a small area of damage to the paperwork below the bird cage. Otherwise wear and tear conducive with age and use. See images for further details. Lacquer work appears to be sound order throughout without any visible signs of wear and tear.
A Jos Lucas Limited Silver King lamp, approx 12.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS In need of a clean. Has some flaking / erosion to the chrome work - possibly over-plated at some point. Lens is dirty and marked to the interior. The lens at the back of the light has two chunks missing. Unknown if this is supposed to be like this. See images for more details.
An Edwardian silver Sovereign and Half Sovereign case with engraved foliate decoration (Birmingham 1905), 0.97 oz total CONDITION REPORTS Basically sound throughout with no serious signs of denting or scratching though with some light surface wear conducive with age and use. There is some minor denting / bending to the sovereign holder rim - see image for further detail. Basically sound throughout. Slight smile to one end suggesting some bending though not visible with the naked eye.
An Edwardian rosewood and inlaid side cabinet of canted form, the single central drawer above two cupboard doors flanked by two further cupboard doors on turned supports, united by an undertier, 114 cm wide x 99 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Whillst basically sound, the piece has wear and tear conducive with age and use throughout including scratching to the top, plugged dowel holes to the rear of the top suggesting that there should have been a back of some sort. The central doors have a slight gap at the middle and the doors have signs of old light scratching all over. The interior of the centre and sides has scratching conducive with age and use. The right hand side of the panels with the vase marquetry inlaid decoration appears to have been enhanced with dark Indian ink. The left door lower panel has cracking vertically in a jagged form. There are also some signs of Indian ink embellishment to the base at the front right hand edge. See images for further detail.
