Boyd (1781-1848) taught Greek to Elizabeth Barrett Browning during his later years. She became quite attached to him and one of her poems, Wine of Cyprus, is dedicated to Boyd.
Patmore (Coventry) The Angel in the House. The Espousals, first edition, A.L.s. from the author to Edmund Gosse regarding illustrations by his daughter Bertha loosely inserted, 16pp. advertisements, some occasional light spotting, bookplate of Gosse to pastedown, hinges weak, original ribbed cloth, spine detached and mostly lacking, rubbed and marked, 1856; The Angel in the House, second edition, signed presentation inscription "from the author". to Henry Acland on title, A.L.s. from the author sending the new edition of Angel in the House and mentioning the painting in the Union Room at Oxford laid down on pastedown, bookplate of Lewis Kennedy Morse, original cloth, spine faded, spine ends and corners bumped, 1858; 8vo (2)⁂ For the second, Henry Acland (1815-1900), English physician and educator. Patmore had recently visited the Union Room at Oxford which had been painted by Rossetti, William Morris and others, a project encouraged by Acland.
