Edward Moran (New York, Pennsylvania, 1829 - 1901) "Summer Morning, New York" Signed lower left. Oil on Canvas. Capturing the background luminosity of the rising sun, Edward Moran portrays and American naval ship preparing to anchor within the safety of New York harbor. A steam tug waits to assist her to a berth if needed, while the sails still catch the momentum-providing westerly wind. Beyond her, the light creates silhouettes of the ships still at anchor and dock toward the Brooklyn side of the bay. The visual depth and soft, yet accurate details in the paintings of Edward Moran account for his standing as one of the great marine artists. Here the brief length of the commissioning pendant atop the main mast and the shadows of the gunnport lids identify the subject as a warship, along with its nautical atmospheres full of mood, and emotion keeps the demand for Moran's best works greater than their availability. Provenance: Vallejo Gallery, Newport Beach, CA.Sight Size: 18.5 x 15.25 in. Overall Framed Size: 30 x 27 in.
Walfrido Garcia (B. 1966) "Banyan by the Sea" Signed lower left. Oil on Wood Panel. Title verso. Having original Wyland Gallery label for $3,940 verso. His style can be described as ?Romantic Luminism? in which the subject he portrays goes beyond just imitating a photograph but instead adding a sense of timeless perfection to nature. Each painting starts out as a loose impressionistic idea. As the layers of paint are added the details come out. By the time the highlights are done the painting glows with light reminiscent of the Old Masters. From up close you can see the rhythm of his brush strokes but when you take a step back the eye blends them all into a harmonious tapestry of light, color and texture. Using photographs, videos and painting on site gives Walfrido endless subjects to paint but it is his imagination that unlocks the key to his style. Each painting plays upon the quality of light whether it is a romantic moonlight, a brilliant sunset, the sea caves of Kauai or the awe-inspiring glow of his signature "Lavascapes". Its as if each canvas is alive with the brilliant light of nature coming from within. Sight Size: 8.25 x 23.25 in. Overall Framed Size: 16.5 x 31.5 in.
Charles J Lundgren (New York, Connecticut, 1911 - 1988) "H.M.S. Dreadnought" Signed lower right. Oil on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood Proofcard for the Great Britain Maritime stamps issued June 16, 1982. Lord John Arbuthnot Fisher, born in 1841 in Ceylon, was the son of a coffee planter so poor that he had to ship his seven children back to England to live on the charity of relatives. Many a youngster would have been blighted by such a fate, but it made Fisher a scrapper. "I had to fight ... for everything, and fighting made me what I am." In 1904, at age sixty-three, "Jacky" Fisher became Britain's First Sea Lord, and certainly one of the most innovative ever to serve in that position. Fisher's claim to a place in history is based on his brilliant invention of the H.M.S. Dreadnought, the world's first all big-gun, turbine-driven battleship, a vessel which, at a stroke, rendered all previous construction obsolete. Her fame rested on what she was: a ship so far advanced when she was commissioned in 1906 that every battleship that came after her embodied her basic concept. The Dreadnought's great breakthrough was the mounting of ten heavy twelve-inch guns on a single ship. Each of her enormous turrets weighed five-hundred tons; each gun exceeded the weight of the entire armament of Horatio Nelson's warship Victory, and each one of the big guns was capable of lobbing a terrifying 850 pound shell at an adversary twenty miles away with alarming accuracy. Indeed, the dawn of the twentieth century gave light to a totally new concept in battleship design ... Lord John Fisher's fearsome H.M.S. Dreadnought. Image Size: 18 x 21 in. Overall Size: 25 x 27 in. Unframed. (B06269)
H. Douglas Pratt (American, B. 1944) "Blue-gray Noddy" Signed lower left. Original Oil painting on Water Color Paper. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 32c Blue-gray Noddy stamp issued February 26, 1996. This graceful and delicate bird is unique among terns in possessing a uniform pearly-gray plumage. The Blue-gray Noddy's distribution is rather enigmatic and patchy in the North Pacific. It nests at scattered localities in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, the Line Islands (Kiribati), and on Taongi and Bikar in the Marshall Islands. Rarely wandering from the islands where it nests, this bird is seldom seen at sea. Blue-gray Noddies feed in flight on small fish picked up as the birds dip and flutter over the water's surface. Their flight is light and buoyant, making them a delight to the eye. On high islands, they nest in nooks and crannies on sea cliffs, but on atolls they will lay their eggs on the ground. The Blue-gray Noddy shown in this painting is perched on the shore among typical vegetation of the Marshall Islands, including the beach morning-glory with its ephemeral pink flowers. Image Size: 5.75 x 6.75 in. Overall Size: 7.25 x 8.75 in. Unframed. (B15277)
Chris Calle (American, B. 1961) "Wood Carving of American Eagle" Signed lower right. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover of the U.S. ND (10c) Eagle and Shield Coil stamp issued December 14, 1998. Adopted by the Continental Congress on June 20, 1782, the Great Seal of the United States features the majestic American bald eagle -- a noble symbol of strength, freedom and independence. Beginning in 1776, several committees were appointed to select a design for the seal. The accepted design was not approved until 1782 and was largely the work of American heraldist William Barton and Secretary of Congress Charles Thomson. Designed in heraldic style, the seal displays a spread-winged eagle, clasping in its beak a scroll with the words E Pluribus Unum, meaning "From Many, One." The shield on the eagle's breast symbolizes self-reliance, and bears 13 red and white stripes representing the original 13 colonies. In 1782, the blue chief of the shield symbolized Congress, but after 1789 it represented all branches of the United States government. The colors in the shield have meaning as well. Red stands for valor and hardiness, blue for vigilance, justice and perseverance, and white for purity and innocence. In its right talon, the eagle holds an olive branch consisting of 13 leaves and 13 olives, symbolizing peace, while in its left are 13 arrows symbolizing war. Above the eagle, the 13-star "new constellation" against a blue sky is surrounded by rays of light and enclosed in a cloud. This crest symbolizes the new nation taking its place as a sovereign republic. Image Size: 13.75 x 13 in. Overall Size: 23.25 x 18.25 in. Unframed. (B12083)

* NEIL MACDONALD RSW RGI PAI, FIRST LIGHT, ST ABBS oil on canvas, initialled, titled label verso image size 97cm x 71cm, overall size 119cm x 93cm Framed and under glass. Artist's label verso. In our opinion, the finest example of Neil MacDonald's work to be offered at auction, anywhere. Note: Neil Macdonald has been the recipient of many awards including 2013 Elected RSW (Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour); 2013 Joe Hargan Award, Maclaurin Fine Art Exhibition, Ayr; 2013 Elected RGI (Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts); 2012 The Smithy Gallery Award (PAI); 2012 Diploma of the Paisley Art Institute; 2011 Robert Innes Award - Scottish Drawing Competition; 2009 Discerning Eye, London- Scottish Regional Winner; 2009 Charles Jamieson Award PAI; 2008 University West Scotland Award PAI; 2006 EDC Ann Stevenson Memorial Award; 2005 EDC Purchase Prize; 1997 Contemporary Art Prize (Eton) Paisley Art Institute; 1981 David Cargill Travelling Scholarship (Italy and Belgium); and 1979 William Shanks Painting Prize. Neil MacDonald trained at Glasgow School of Art from 1975 until 1980, where he developed his considerable skills as a painter and consummate draughtsman. He is drawn to locations that exert historic and mythic presence, exploring the lyrical narrative of natural sites and strong bold shapes of castles, old townships and harbours. He does this through distortion of perspective, invention and editing, aiming to capture an essence of the structure or place. Colour is used in an emotive way to heighten the sense of mood, applying each layer upon layer of paint in a divisionist manner until a unity of statement is realised as the image emerges, revealing the subject’s unique sense of place. This fine example in superb condition has been consigned by a private collector from Gloucestershire who is in the process of downsizing.
