A scarce WW1 era United States 1913 pattern Remington bayonet, converted in the post WW2 era to a fighting knife for the French Foreign Legion (believed to be a ‘stop gap’ weapon). With correct ‘1913’ pattern stamped to the ricasso, and the date of ‘2 16’ for February 1916. The reverse side of the ricasso shows various stamped British inspection marks, a War Department broad arrow, and an ‘X’ bend test mark. With slab wooden grips, each with the distinctive double groove cut into each side. The cross guard has had its muzzle ring ground off, with this now being of oval form. The blade has been shortened, with the fuller now all the way down to the point of the blade. The original green leather scabbard has also been shortened, with metal throat having been repositioned and stapled into place. The bayonet also has been fitted with a tan coloured leather frog, with press stud retaining strap, which is correct for this type of conversion. Both blade and other metal parts have been blackened, which is a feature seen on other conversions of this type. Some sources suggest that this type of knife was issued as recently as the 1970’s in Zaire. An interesting piece, that may have seen service in two World Wars before its conversion. Approximately 35cm in the scabbard, blade length 18.7cm. Condition: good. Some normal patination and service wear to the wooden grips, and a little light contact wear / scuffing to the leather scabbard. The blade is good, and the button release catch to the pommel still works as it should.
A Czech VZ-58 bayonet, complete with its 1982 dated leather sheath. Produced from 1958 through to 1984, and still in use today. Of later production, with bonded particle board grips secured by 2 rivets, an extended cross guard, and parkerised blade. The blade is single edged with a fuller, and a false edge near the tip. Marked ‘12d46’ at the ricasso, and an ink stamp to the sheath, which reads: K6 ‘Crossed Swords’ 82, OTK Serie 2’. Approximately 29cm not including sheath. Together with WW1 era United States Remington 1913 pattern bayonet, with date stamp for December 1915, and the British broad arrow mark, bend test mark, and inspection stamps. Complete with its usual wooden slab grips with double notch, steel pommel with button release catch, and cross guard with muzzle ring. The bayonet is accompanied by its metal mounted leather scabbard. Approximately 57.2cm in its scabbard, blade length 42.7cm. Condition: generally good. Some light service to the Czech example, with a little staining to the leather sheath. The WW1 Remington example has overall darkening to the steel parts, with pitting to the cross guard and pommel. Some service wear to the scabbard, but this remains intact.
A selection of 19th and 20th century British line regiment tunic buttons, with some scarce examples. To include examples for: the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry (used 1881-1902, and 1902-1952), the Lancashire Fusiliers (used 1884-1902, 1902-1952, and 1952-1968), the Royal Munster Fusiliers (used 1881-1922), the Leicestershire Regiment (used 1881-1964), the Lincolnshire Regiment (used 1881-1902, 1902-1946, 1946-1952, and 1952-1959), and The Prince of Wales Own Regiment of Yorkshire (used 1958-2006). Examples included are brass, gilt brass, silvered, blackened, and anodised, in various sizes. 67 buttons total. Condition: good. Some normal age and service wear, with some polished areas to the high points of the designs on some examples. Each buttons retains its shank to the reverse.
