Monte (Guidobaldo del). In Duos Archimedis Aequeponderantium Libros Paraphrasis Scholiis Illustrata. Mechanicorum Machina, 1st ed., Pesaro, 1588 (colophon dated 1587), title with woodcut vignette, historiated initials, woodcut illustrations and text within ruled borders, H1 with vertical split along inner border, small owner label to border of dedication leaf, contemporary manuscript initials to title margin and front endpaper, a few light spots, later mottled calf, spines with raised bands and calf label, lightly rubbed, folio. Guidobaldo del Monte (1545 -1607) was an Italian mathematician, military engineer and astronomer and this work is his study of the centres of gravity, based on Archimedian principles. He was Galileo’s patron and friend for 20 years and possibly his greatest influence on mechanics, and they reportedly conducted experiments in projectile trajectories together. Monte also helped develop mathematical instruments, including the proportional and elliptical compass. (1)

R Jones (Wimbledon Park) small scare head persimmon spoon with full brass sole plate and a similar light stained scare neck bulger driver - both with good full length leather grips. (2) Note: R. Jones was born 1872 and was runner up in the 1905 Open and played for England v Scotland Int. matches from 1903 - 1913 and was one of the original members of the PGA.
