TRANTER DOUBLE ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVER, 0.54 bore, c.1864, No.196405, the blued 6" octagonal barrel with London proof marks, frame inscribed "John Hayton Grahams Town", (retailer, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa), integral ejector, five shot cylinder, action chased overall with leaves, chequered walnut grips, 13" overall Purchased from retailer on 1st Nov 1870 by Capt Raymond Harvey de Montmorency, of 32nd Foot, Duke of Cornwall`s Light Infantry, based in Grahamstown. Capt Montmorency served with the 33rd Foot at Sebastopol, Redan and Indian Mutiny, joined 32nd Foot September 1861 and served in Abyssinia, S Africa, commanded frontier field force Sudan and The Nile 1889, then India. He retired in 1900 as Hon General Viscount De Montmorency
