An very well made scratchbuilt model of a Tethered Hydroplane Boat, titled Spook, circa 1930s and built by Charles Booth of the Fleetwood Club, Kipper box style rectangular hull of wooden construction with slipper stern, the engine is a scaled down version of a Aspin/Cross rotary valve, four stroke engine. Model is hand painted in light blue with yellow Spook lettering, this lot is supplied with a number of blueprints and drawings, along with a quantity of paper work relating to the builder and history, length 96cm

Although it did not quite take off, a number of paperback copies are still circulating in the collector's world. Much less common is the considerably smaller print run hardback edition which Gollancz issued for the library market - a market that remained highly lucrative for the publisher's crime fiction list for years to some. Understandably these hardback copies were heavily stamped and equally heavily used.

Never Before Printed, first edition, light foxing or staining to title, neat contemporary and large modern ink ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper, cracking to gutter, contents shaken with a few gatherings proud, original pictorial boards, early calf reback, obscuring one letter of title, chipping to head of spine, some wear to extremities, touching first word of title, rubbed, 12mo, George Vickers, 1864.⁂ An important title in the evolution of the detective novel, not least for being one of the first to feature a female detective, the inimitable Mrs Paschal, depicted on the cover wearing the crinoline from which she at one point extricates herself in pursuit of a mysterious masked man. The book is one of two 'yellowbacks', or 'railway books', published around the same time, the other being The Lady Detective, generally attributed to Andrew Forrester. The truth as to which one actually came first is somewhat muddled, with Revelations of a Lady Detective announced as being ready for release one day before the first known reference to Forrester's book, but listed under a different publisher, J.A. Berger, subsequently absorbed into George Vickers, which may have delayed release slightly.'The increased interest in gender over the last fifty years and, more recently, popular culture has enlarged the audience for these two remarkable examples of nineteenth-century crime fiction. Rarity has also hindered scholarly consideration of these casebooks. Yellowbacks were cheaply produced and seldom archived; extant copies of The Female Detective and Revelations of a Lady Detective are rare and in fragile condition, available only in the special collections of a few research libraries.' Joyce (James) Chamber Music, first edition, first impression, pictorial title, ownership name to pastedown, paperclip rust stain to half-title, original cloth, gilt, third variant binding with thin wove endpapers and the poems in signature C poorly centred on the page, very light rubbing to spine ends, spine faded, otherwise an excellent copy, [Slocum & Cahoon A3], 12mo, 1907.⁂ Joyce's first published volume of poetry, scarce in the first issue, preceded only by the separately published poems Et tu Healy (of which no printed copies are known) and the rare broadside The Holy Office.The priority of the second and third variants is undetermined but now thought that very few copies of the first edition were actually gathered and bound in 1907, perhaps only 50-100. When Joyce was at the height of his fame later in the 1920s, Elkin Mathews seem to have "rediscovered" the remainder of his poems and bound them up in a slightly darker green cloth.
