1815 Waterloo Medal, Trooper John Hughes, 12th Prince Of Wales Light Dragoons. John Hughes Served With The 12th Light Dragoons At Salamanca And Victoria During The Peninsular Wars. Hughes Later Served Under Lord Wellington At The Battle Of Waterloo, Where The 12th Lead The Charge Of Vandeleur's Cavalry Brigade. Nearly A Third Of The Men Of The 12th Became Casualties. Hughes And His Captain, Edwyn Sandys, Were Among The Wounded. Sandys Succumbed To His Injuries Shortly After The Battle. The Colonel Of The 12th, Frederick Ponsonby, Was Also Grievously Wounded But Survived. Hughes Was Pensioned In September 1827.
Russian Alexandrite 19th Century Bracelet, comprising eight large, faceted, round cut alexandrite stones,each displaying rich purplish/red tones in artificial light, with greenish/blue undertones which appear more in daylight; the national stone of Tsarist Russia, it was named for the future Tsar Alexander, after it's discovery in 1834; each of the subtly sparkling, clear, colour change stones is in a claw coronet setting, framed with a narrow rope twist and a wider twisted ribbon, in a 9ct or possibly higher, tested gold mount; the later, but still of a good age, tongue and box clasp bears a very rubbed, probably Continental or Russian mark; an impressive but very wearable bracelet with the alexandrite of a quality and size no longer found; 7.5 inches long
