According to Reed there were 750 copies of Volume 1, and 1,000 copies of volume 2 printed. The Dove's Bindery had been set up by T. J. Cobden-Sanderson in 1893, and aimed to establish bookbinding as a fine art using the highest quality materials and the best manual binding techniques.
