John Swatsley (American, B. 1937) "Golden Eagle" Signed lower right. Oil on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 20c Official Mail Envelope issued January 12, 1983. Nearly always, the proud eagle has been just the sort of symbol kings, emperors and nations favor and, for this reason, has often been used as their emblem. To this day, the national seal of Mexico bears the figure of an eagle devouring a serpent which symbolizes to the people of that nation the triumph of good over evil. Other nations, including Egypt and Persia, have lifted the eagle high as part of their battle standards. One of the few times when the eagle was portrayed in a less than favorable light was in the legend of Ganymede which exaggerated the bird's ability to carry off prey. In this story the eagle actually took to the sky with children in its talons! In reality, however, even the powerful Golden Eagle can lift no more than eight pounds. Still, with its fearsome gaze and soaring flight, it is little wonder that the eagle continues to be a favorite emblem of kings and nations to this very day. Image Size: 18.25 x 15.5 in. Overall Size: 23.75 x 20 in. Unframed. (B07815)
Steve Ferguson (B. 1946) "General Dynamics F16C Fighting Airplane" Signed lower left. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood Commemorative Cover with the U.S. Flag 29c stamp issued January 20, 1992. In 1975 General Dynamics began mass production of a new, light-weight air combat fighter for the U.S. Air Force. Designated the F-16, the "Fighting Falcon" performed superlatively during trials and demonstrated excellent interceptor and bomber capabilities as well. Also ordered by U.S. allies, the aircraft first saw combat in 1981, when eight Israeli F-16s destroyed an Iraqi nuclear installation. But the aircraft truly proved its mettle as a fighter bomber during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. Loaded with both cluster bomb units and Sidewinder missiles, F-16s from units such as the 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron from Hill AFB, Utah, wreaked havoc on entrenched Iraqi troops. With regular updates in avionics and electronics, this invaluable aircraft should serve well into the 21st C. Image Size: 16.5 x 14 in. Overall Size: 20 x 15 in. Unframed. (B13444)
Kaytee Esser (20th C.) Titled "Follies". Signed lower right. Acrylic on Canvas. Artist's Statement: My work captures the rich character and personality of life. I can best describe my style as light, bright, and fun. I look for the individual personality that makes my paintings unique. I paint mainly with oil on canvas. Painting is my passion and my challenge, which I strive to communicate to the observer. About The Artist: Kaytee Esser is an award-winning painter whose studio works examines both the sensuality and richly varied texture of relationships. She connects with each of her subjects on a deeply personal level, capturing their essence and translating it to canvas. The interplay between line, light and color illuminates the spirit of her subjects as they relate to their surroundings and each other. Most recently, Kaytee is experimenting with abstract design with an overlay of figure and movement. Her style is contemporary and impressionistic. Ms. Esser's use of light and bright color is perfectly suited to the south's tropical climate. Sight Size: 20 x 16 in. Overall Size: 22 x 18 in. Framed behind glass.
