Born in 1946 in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, he was educated at the Newport College of Art. He was a part-time lecturer in Art, and as a freelance artist he was involved in a wide range of work from book and magazine illustration. The list of VC actions depicted in this lot are as follows:1. Sergeants John Berryman VC and John Farrell VC, 17th Lancers, and Corporal Joseph Malone VC, 13th Light Dragoons, help to assist Captain Alexander Webb, 17th Lancers, from the Balaclava battlefield, during the return from the Charge of the Light Brigade, Crimean War, 25 October 1854. 2. He also mentions that he had "not heard from Stan for ages" wondering if "his domestic troubles are settled" and fearing that it "is bound to affect their popularity".
