With the inclusion of the buckram-bound standard edition, it was obviously not intended to defraud. The mounted flies with plastic cover however seem to be the same as the limited edition. Whatever the reason, it is an interesting and perhaps unique presentation of this work.

The fifth edition was the last published during Walton's lifetime and it is the first in which his name appears on the title-page. In many respects it is the most interesting of the five editions. For the first time Walton's friend, Charles Cotton, brought his important contribution of particular interest to the fly fisherman as Walton was essentially a bait fisherman. Cotton owes his long-lasting fame mainly to his association with Walton, as Part II was to be reproduced in most editions published in the following centuries.

In this edition the author's name was spelt 'Isaac'; it varied between this and 'Izaak' over the years, sometimes appearing as both in the same book. It was even 'Isaak' in the Sherwood & Bowyer edition of 1844.

This is a revised edition of the earlier Bethune editions with 'some additions and corrections'. There was a large-paper edition limited to 100 copies.
