A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER SHAPED CIRCULAR PLATTERS POSSIBLY BY CHARLES WRIGHT, LONDON 1770 With gadrooned borders, engraved with a coronet above a crest 28.5cm (11 1/4in) diameter 1278g (41.1 oz) Provenance: The Property of the Trustees of the Davenport Estate The crest and coronet for George Fleming WARREN (1811-1887) 2nd Baron Tabley of Tabley Cheshire. He was born George FLEMMING the eldest son and heir of John LEICESTER (1762-1827), who in 1826 was created Baron Tydesley, by Georgia COTTIN daughter of Josiah COTTIN. In 1832 he assumed by Royal licence the family name and arms of WARREN, under the terms of the will of kinswoman Elizabeth WARREN-BULKELEY nee WARREN, viscountess Bulkeley. He married twice: Firstly in 1832 Catherina Barbara (died 1869) daughter of Jerome, 4th Count de Seglio by his third wife. Second in 1871 Elizabeth SMITH-BARRY. George Flemming WARREN was a Liberal peer and served in the first Liberal administration of William Ewart GLADSTONE. He was later 1868-72 Treasurer of the Household and from 1869 a member of the Privy Council. The crest as shown would have been used by him from 1832 (assay 1824). Blazon of crest: on a chapeau gules, turned up ermine a wyvern argent, wings expanded chequy or and azure.
