ENGLISH SCHOOL "Admiral Horatio Nelson", in naval regalia, portrait miniature, head and shoulders, unsigned, oval, 7 cm x 6 cm, within an ebonised rectangular frame with acorn and leaf gilt metal mount CONDITION REPORTS Overall with some general wear. Portrait is sealed within the frame and has not been removed for inspection. Under UV light the edgings to collar and to epaulettes show up dark, as do areas around the neck and some outlining areas to sleeves etc. The thickness of the paint around the lapels, collar and neck and epaulettes also are quite thickly painted.

JOSEPH THORS (1835-1900) "A wooded landscape with figures in cornfields with corn stooks close by, open fields beyond", oil on canvas, signed lower right, 30 cm x 25 cm CONDITION REPORTS Under UV light some areas show up darker, indicating some restoration to foreground, and to fence area and tree, one of the areas of restoration is right of centre to the foreground, which could be a repair to a small hole. Back of frame is sealed, so reverse of canvas not inspected. Overall however, picture appears in fairly stable and presentable condition. Frame has been repainted.

Craquelure and cracking to paint throughout. Some flaking and small areas of loss to paint, particularly visible to the sky area. Some lifting to the paint. Under UV light there are just a few small areas showing up darker, suggesting probably some slight re-touching of paint and or varnish. Under natural light there are a few areas where the paint appears shinier than in others.

Hole to the picture bottom left and dent and crack to picture centre bottom. Bubbling to paint. Craquelure to paint. Small hole top left corner and small hole to top border centre, small crack to bottom left corner of picture. Frame with some cracks and chips and various holes drilled to it. Under UV light the picture has quite a dull milky white appearance.

ATTRIBUTED TO JOSE WEISS "Wooded landscape with water in foreground", oil on canvas, unsigned, 25.5 cm x 35.5 cm CONDITION REPORTS Overall with general dirt and wear. Under ultra violet light some areas show up quite bright blue / irridescent including around the buildings and some specks to the trees and sky. There is also an area above the buildings which shows up quite dark under UV and also some similar areas to the trees. Some craquelure to paint. The reverse of the painting, where the canvas wraps around the stretcher is inscribed "Impressionist painting Frayser (?) School" plus there is a further inscription in brackets to the right of this (please see photos). There is a small cut-out paper label stuck to the back of the frame inscribed "Jose Weiss a river landscape, oil on canvas". Under natural light some areas of paint appear quite thin with the canvas showing through. The attribution is based on the label glued to the back of the frame; the vendor has also advised us that they have previously taken the picture to Bonhams. Please note that we are selling it as "attributed to" (not "by" the artist). From our glossary: Attributed to.... " in our opinion a work of the period for the artist which may be in whole or part the work of the artist"

J BEAZEBY (19TH CENTURY) "Study of a Hereford cow in a stable yard with timbered barns close by", oil on canvas, signed and dated 1887 bottom left, 54 cm x 66 cm CONDITION REPORTS Overall with wear and scuffs. Craquelure to paint. Picture appears to have been relined, and has various areas which under UV light show up as dark patches and dark specs where there appears to have been restoration. Also under UV light the picture has a very milky white appearance suggesting revarnishing. Various scuffs and scratches. Frame has flaking, knocks, separating at joins, chips and scuffs, areas of repainting.

WILLIAM LANGLEY (1852-1922) "A Highland lochscape with long horned cattle watering", oil on canvas, signed lower right, bearing "W Tomlin Carver and Gilder" label verso, 30.5 cm x 51 cm and a companion, a pair (2) CONDITION REPORTS Overall with general wear and dirt and quite a lot of craquelure and cracking to the paint. The pictures are under glass. Under UV light the pictures appear to be in unrestored condition with no obvious signs of darkened areas showing. The back of one picture has had most of the old covering paper removed and it appears that the picture may have been removed from the frame at some time. The other painting has a layer of old brown paper over the back, so unable to see whether previously covering is present. The frames have wear and scuffs and crazing, some knocks and chips.

A FOLLOWER OF DAVID TENIERS "A tavern interior scene with figures eating and drinking, a fire burning in the background", oil on panel, unsigned, 31 cm x 37.5 cm CONDITION REPORTS Under UV light : has a white/milky appearance and seems to indicate that the painting has been quite heavily cleaned at some point and revarnished and there may be one or two areas of slight restoration e.g. slightly above the lady's head on the right-hand side in a couple of spots and in various other small areas throughout. Has had some heavy cleaning and has some scuffs and scratches. Frame has numerous areas missing throughout and is in quite poor condition, has been re-gilded at some point in the past, however approx one third of the outer edge of the decoration is missing.

"Old woman peeling potatoes", oil on panel, indistinctly signed bottom left, 60 cm x 47 cm CONDITION REPORTS Overall with general wear and some scuffs, including to pan bottom right of picture and to the lady's skirt. Some craquelure to the paint. Picture appears to have been cleaned and re-varnished and the glossiness of the varnish varies throughout the picture. Overall however, condition appears reasonably good. Under UV light some areas show up slightly dark including top right and down the right side of the picture. It is currently framed in a relatively modern frame which has various chips and losses.

Quite a lot of flaking and loss to paint. Craquelure. Bubbling to paint. Various areas of previous restoration which show up dark under UV light including whole of snake, areas around shoulders, head, mouth, eye, hand, clothing, etc. There appears to have been some previous re-varnishing.

Oberhofjägermeister und Kammerherr. Geb. 1733 + 1793. ", 81,.5 cm x 69 cm CONDITION REPORTS Dirt, wear and scuffs. Craquelure and cracking to paint. Some small flakes of paint missing, mostly to bottom section of picture where are are scuffs and flakes to the clothing. Under UV light there appears to have been quite a lot of restoration to background, and also around hairline and face, to bottom section of picture, and to right side of picture. Frame with various chips, cracks and losses.

Quite a few scuffs and scratches with paint loss in these areas. Picture appears to have been re-framed and the edges of the picture where now visible are quite browned and discoloured where they may previously have been beneath a frame. Under UV light there are some long previous scuffs which appear to have been restored and now show up as dark lines under UV light - including to top edge of hat, line from top left corner across whole picture to bottom right corner, and various lines/scratches to lower part of picture, to tree etc. Some roughness to surface. A blemish where branch joins tree trunk.

CATHERINE M WOOD (? - 1939) "Roses on a ledge", still life study, oil on canvas, signed bottom right, 24 cm x 34 cm CONDITION REPORTS Please note that the picture is oil on canvas (not oil on board), back of picture not visible due to cardboard backing to frame. Canvas is fairly undulating and mis-shapen. There appear to have been a few repairs particularly to the left of the picture, which show up darker under UV light.

A matched pair of Chinese vases and covers, of baluster form, decorated horses and other motifs on a ground of waves breaking on rocks, in enamel colours (repairs), 35 and 36 cm high See inside back cover colour illustration Condition report Report by JB Vase and cover 1: Cover generally grubby, with light signs of wear. Light chips present to inside rim section. Some light areas of colour. The vase itself displays, unfortunately a large amount of damage around the neck, a large section has been broken off and then re-glued in an amateur manner, with some loss to exterior decoration. Otherwise the vase displays general wear, some light fading to the colour around the blue areas of the glaze. A few pox marks and faults can also be observed to the surface, two indentations to base rim, and one small chip. Interior displays noticeable glaze faults and pox marks. Vase and cover 2: The cover on Vase 2 displays a large amount of damage to one side. The rim section has been broken into at least four sections and then re-glued. Pox marks, glaze faults present to the surface and a noticeable amount of glaze has been chipped off the top finial section, along with noticeable rubbing. Two small chips can be observed to interior rim. Again much in the same manner of the first vase, there is noticeable damage to the neck section of this vase. A large section has been broken into at least two pieces and there are three noticeable areas of loss. It has been glued again in an amateur fashion, and is rather noticeable. Again the body of the vase is scattered with a few glaze faults and pox marks and some colours slightly faded Please see illustrations for details

A pair of Royal Doulton Slater's Patent vases, 1884, 38.5 cm high (2) Condition report Report by JB Vase 1 General marks and wear present across the surface. Pox marks and glaze faults can be observed to main body, most noticeably around the top rim. Gilt worn in all areas. Black and brown marks can be observed to textured detail around the centre, with some fading on the white petal details. Base section displays glaze faults with one noticeable white spot. No major damage would appear present. Vase 2 General marks present again with light glaze faults and pox marks, most noticeable to top section. One of note to the glaze in the middle region up the neck. A couple of brown marks again present to the textured section in the middle with some fading and gilt rubbing. No major damage of note would appear present.

A pair of Worcester Hadley porcelain figures, of water carriers, the largest 49 cm high (both mounted as table lamps) (2) See illustration Condition report Report by JB The gentleman in the brown and purple robe carrying a water bucket has been broken in two at the waistline. A number of chips and cracks can be observed to the arms. He has been repaired poorly with glue, and there is a noticeable amount of damage underneath the urn in the middle of his chest, going down towards the waist. General wear, markings and rubbings can be observed to the rest of the body, with rubbing around the base. Figure 2 of the young woman in the gold robe: displays general wear and markings, noticeable areas have been worn off the robe and sash, extremities are intact.
