Geoffrey Key (1941-), Rural scene, signed and dated '87, mixed media, 30.5 x 39cm.; 12 x 15.5in. * Geoffrey Key's acclaimed career as an artist spans five decades thus far. He has built upon his early academic studies at the High School of Art and Regional College of Art in Manchester to achieve an important national and international status and reputation for his individual and diligent expression of form, light and colour. His work features in private, public and corporate collections worldwide including Salford and Manchester Art Galleries, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, Jockey Club of Hong Kong, Societe Roquefort, Chateau de St Ouen and Perrier. He has represented the UK in invited exhibitions in Europe and he continues to be widely exhibited; one-man shows have taken place across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA. An unusual English soft paste porcelain polychrome teabowl and saucer, possibly Longton Hall c.1755-60, the exterior moulded with leaves and modelled in relief with flowers and buds interspersed by painted insects, the saucer painted with a bird perched on flowering branches with berries, the interior of the teabowl with similar floral sprays, the saucer slightly mis-shapen, 12.4cm., repair to rim of teabowlThe body is grey and glassy and displays small moons to the paste when viewed in strong light.
