* TIM DOLBY (BRITISH b 1954), BURNISHED Verre Églomisé, signed 60cm x 90cm Framed. Note: The term Verre Églomisé is derived from the French for glass (verre) and Glomy (églomisé) from Jean-Baptise Glomy an 18th Century Parisian art dealer who re-popularised the technique. It is a very old technique first used in pre Roman times but became popular again in the 15th Century and has been used in many art and craft forms with a resurgence of interest taking place now. Essentially it involves a mix of applying Gold leaf, painting and engraving onto the back of glass. This requires the Artist to be able to build up the image in reverse to what is the norm when painting on the front side. That is to say, the top layer goes on first and subsequent layers are applied until finally you apply the background layer. Gold leaf is applied using a substance called Isinglass to create a firm bond between leaf and glass. It comes from the swim bladders of fish and creates an invisible bond leaving the leaf with a mirror like surface on the glass. When combined with enamel paint the result are paintings which are highly dynamic as they catch the light and reflect differently as you move around the room. Over the years, Tim Dolby has developed a mastery of the technique in a unique contemporary style.

ESTIMATE £3000 - £4000Chassis number 613933 - This example of 14 Light 6 Model ASXSB as initially introduced on June 14th 1933 (ASX denoting the larger 1781cc engine) was available only in "DeLuxe" specification which gave the buyer a sliding sun roof, two windscreen wipers, rear seat folding centre arm rest, a patented "No Draft" ventilation system along with a larger power output and all at no extra charge thus making it the same price of £215 as the standard 14 model. Production ended during August 1934 by which time 23,294 had rolled of the Luton assembly lines. From our research it appears that this car was originally registered in Flintshire, North wales, as DM 8865 , a number range issued in this area until 1936. With a DVLA registration date of July 9th 1959 which is some 23 after the car was produced it is impossible to decide why this is the case although an educated guess might lead one to believe the car was laid up at the outbreak of WW2 and remained so until 1959. The original registration was removed in 2002 and the car reallocated the DAS 948 number it carries today. This example would appear to have had little or no restoration and has an excellent patina, the car drives when started and the vendor and current registered keeper states he has driven the car locally on several occasions. We have no other information regarding this example. DAS948 Miles:90,913 Keepers:. Year:1934 MOT: Doors:4 Color:Black

ESTIMATE £6000 - £8000Chassis number 1G5210 - supplied new on April 10th 1970 by "George Newman & Co Ltd, Northways Parade, Swiss Cottage, Finchley" for a renowned and titled Scottish Ophthalmologist to King Edward VIII, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. This first owner had been born in Tealing by Dundee and was at this time residing in St. Johns Wood, registering the car in his Companies name "Tealing Books" the car remained with his widow after his death in 1978 until 1983 when her Ladyship, having close connections with The University of London expressed a wish to sell the car to the University, an AA report was duly commissioned and a copy remains within the history file. In the event the University elected not to proceed with the purchase and at 16650 miles the car was subsequently purchased by another titled gentleman and Principle of the University of London and later the Vice Chancellor of the University of Hull, who was to remain the second owner of the car until his retirement in 1991. The cars history records a service at 26465 miles during July 1991 in Hull, along with a good selection of previous invoices during this ownership. From the history file we can see that the car finds its 3rd owner during September 1991 this time in the Market Town of Lutterworth, Leicestershire, where the car was to remain until the current registered keeper and vendor acquired the car during September 2010. The car retains its original Owners Service Policy dated April 14th 1970 and Routine Service Booklet with the first Free Service signed by G Newman. The XJ6 was launched during September 1968 in 2.8 and 4.2 guise this an early Series 1 example distinguishable by having the rear reflectors within the boot reverse light cluster as opposed to below the rear light cluster and chrome gauge bezels as opposed to black ones. An unusual feature, inherited from the Mark X and original S Type saloons, was the provision of twin fuel tanks, positioned on each side of the boot, and filled using two separately lockable filler caps, one on the top of each wing above the rear wheel arches. For 1969 the XJ6 achieved the acolade of "Car of The Year" with a total 2.8 production run 19322 examples. BYE410H Miles:41,796 Keepers:3 Year:1970 MOT:23/06/2020 Doors:4 Color:Grey
