GÖRAN WÄRFF (Sweden, 1933).Polar" candlestick.In moulded glass, simulating stalagmites.Signed and num. 67513.Provenance: Private collection, Spain between 1970-1990.Measurements: 16,5 x 14 x 14 cm.Göran Wärff was one of the main designers of Kosta-Boda, from the 1960s. Göran is represented in the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design. Göran Wärff's work was characterised by his special interest in preserving the traditional skills of master craftsmen in glassblowing and glass cutting. The play of light within the transparent volume of glass and the optical phenomena that occur when glass diffracts light are a recurring theme in Göran Wärff's artistic and design work. Nature and the play of light in nature are his other main sources of inspiration, beyond glass itself.

Light staining and marks/fading to the calendar as expected due to age and use. Knocks and wear to the case.Wear to the rolls, the top Day of the Week roll with thinning to the canvas, particularly to the right side. Some creases to the number roll. The Month and Day roll both discoloured and with foxing. The rolling knobs worn. The rolling mechanism is loose and is slow to operate, particularly for the number roll.Various old chips and scuffs to the case, discolouration and marks. Chip to the back left of the top.

Weighted undersides that have been later drilled to accommodate wiring. Some rubbing to the silvering with various areas of tarnishing, light scuffs and scratches commensurate with use and age. The quatrefoil-foil collars a little misshapen in areas.

Also, a split to the front left turned foot, which has been repegged above. Further slight shrinkage crack to the top to the left side, wear and light wear to brass inlay. Also, another slight crack it the right side return frieze (see image of side). The backboards to the mirrored superstructure are also replacement boards. See photos. Mounts have been cleaned with polish residue to the crevices. No key.
