Newhaven Bank, for William Chamberlain & Co, £1, 15 October 1808, serial number 114, Smith signature, light foxing, a lovely fresh very fine and extremely rare, with an amazing story! Outing 1529, Howard P27-28 £600-£800 --- This note is in fact one of the newly discovered ‘Spurious Bank’ issues uncovered by Trevor Howard. It appears on page 27-28 of his book and is one of the two types illustrated. The notes were issued and circulated as any other provincial issues, but were not backed by real people or real money, a fact often not discovered for months or even years by the unfortunate holders of the notes.

Seamus Heaney Signed, The Spirit Level (Faber & Faber, 1996). Signed (and dated - 8/vii/98) by Seamus Heaney on title page, also on page 21 at the end of 'St Kevin and the Blackbird'. Light edge wear to covers with crease mark to top right corner and bottom centre. Also top right corner of p. 21 folded down. This was Heaney's first book of poems since he was awarded the 1995 Nobel Prize for Literature.
