A Russian silver gilt, garnet and enamel square bell push by Faberge, signed in full, workmaster Michael Perchin, Moscow, pre-1899, 88 zolotniks, with a cabochon garnet push piece on a white translucent guilloche enamel ground with foliate sprays centred by small ruby cabochons, with light green enamel spandrels with seed pearls, the sides with laurel swags and small ruby cabochons on a light green enamel ground, on turned feet, 4.7cm (1 7/8in) wide. A Russian partridge wood square bell push by Faberge, workmaster Vladimir Soloviev, 84 zolotniks, with a cabochon amethyst push piece on a light green translucent enamel ground framed by chased silver parcel gilt bound laurels with arrows at the points, the sides with conforming laurel swags, 4.2cm (1.5in) wide. See McCarthy, Kieran 'Forgotten Faberge', Antique Dealers and Collectors Guide, May-June 2004, pp. 40-42. The use of wood is in keeping with Faberge's principle of using materials for their decorative properties rather than just their intrinsic value. A surprisingly large and varied range of objects were produced in both Moscow and St Petersburg. The author suggests that the wood elements were supplied by the same workshop which made Faberge's fitted retail cases, run by the Finnish woodworkers Kaki, Kamara and Ampuja. A pair of laminate ear studs and a brooch by Louise Slater, unmarked; the two piece brooch is reversible with four different colour combinations possible, the brooch 9cm long. Louise Slater (1956-1999) was born in Wolverhampton and studied at the Walsall School of Art, then silversmithing and jewellery at the Sheffield City Polytechnic. She was to progress from the exhibitions of her mid 1980s avant garde non precious jewels to producing lighting schemes and architecrural installations, such as mobiles, having created an example to celebrate Terry Frost's 80th birthday show at the Flowers East Gallery in London, which lead to other Civic commissions. In fact Ann Sutton was instrumental in commissioning lighting instalations at Southampton City Art Gallery and subsequently the light installations at The Point, for Eastleigh Borough Council. The jewels offered here are from Louise Slater's mid eighties 'Spirals' range, made from 'Colorcore', a Formica Corporation product for kitchen worktops. This range was born out of a commission from Graham Hughes, then editor of Art Review, and sponsored by Formica. It became an almost instant success, gaining a British design award in 1988.
