This copy is without the 8pp. adverts which are in the trade issue, and the top-corner pictorial motifs of Tigger and Owl have been swapped, and are overlaid on the the blind stamping.

NO RESERVE Burgess (Anthony) The Worm and the Ring, first edition, some light spotting to fore-edge, original boards, dust-jacket, light toning to spine, short nick to head and foot of lower panel, light rubbing to corner tips, near-fine otherwise, 8vo, 1961.⁂ Burgess' suppressed early novel, scarce, especially such good condition. The Worm and the Ring was closely based on Burgess' experiences at the Banbury Grammar School with several of the characters recognizable as staff there. The secretary, Gwendoline Bustin, objected to her inclusion and Heinemann agreed to pulp any unsold copies of the book.
