A collection of six Chinese interior painted glass snuff bottles20th century, of varying forms to include a pink glass version of flattened ovoid form, interior painted with monkey running through forest to one side, the other with vase and flowers, oval foot, 2 ¾in. (7cm.) high; an amber coloured bottle, interior painted with a carp and pond scene; the others each decorated with either cockerels, pheasant or other birds; together with one exterior enamelled with twin birds to either side amidst foliage, with domed light orange hardstone stopper, blue character signature to base. (15.8cm.) high, both with faults; a Staffordshire glazed black basalt teapot with lion finial, probably Cyples, c.1820, spout repaired; a Caughley tea bowl and saucer; two pearlware tea bowls and saucers; a creamware two handled leaf plate; a pearlware teapot; and others; together with a Continental two-handled urn with painted floral spray. Later Gilt line to rim and filled chips with retouching to corners of foot. - Derby figures: the flute player missing both ends of his instrument. the lute player missing the top of the neck, and with A glued repair to the lower neck of the lute and hand and A Chip to front of base. both with paint and Gilt wear. - Black basalt: Upper half of Spout is A painted pewter repair, with paint loss and A Small split to top. Small Chip and Several frits to edge of cover. - Caughley tea Bowl & saucer: some Gilt wear. - Pearlware tea bowls & saucers: both tea bowls have heavy discolouration to glaze and A hairline Crack to rim. the smaller with Small Chip to foot. saucers good - the smaller with tiny glaze frit to rim. - Creamware: Two Small chips to underside of rim. some glaze discolouration to edges of well. - Pearlware teapot: Chipping to one side of Spout tip. hairline to rim. - Imari cups: Larger with Chip to rim. one of the smaller cups with hairline to centre of body. the other good. - Cont. Vase: Probable Very good restoration to both handles.
A Chinese patinated bronze two handled hu vaseprobably 18th/19th century, with apocryphal Xuande six character mark to base, red brown patination, the slightly tapered square neck with square rim and two elephant handles, each side with a shaped reserve, two with figures in mountain landscapes, the other two with diaper work, the body with a band of keywork with archaic dragons, the flared foot with key work decoration, 12 ¼in. (31.2cm.) high.* Good patina overall - interior has general dirt and residue from use as a vase over many years. The base has old (probably early 20th century) putty pushed into the seam between the body and base, presumably in an attempt to seal tiny holes in the past when it was used as a vase and leaked water. There is a small spot of creamy coloured residue on the surface of the bronze in the dragon keywork band, and there is a larger, fainter patch of verdigris to the surface of the bronze on the foot, just above the keywork band - this is very old and there is a small flake from the surface of the metal here. No other damage to bronze. *Good patina overall - interior has general dirt and residue from use as a vase over many years. A Staffordshire 19th century spill vase cow & calf group and others 10½in. (26.8cm.) high, together with two other figures holding lambs; Swan group spill vase; early Turkish figure; Gypsy camp fire, etc. (7) *Turkish figure with losses to flower; all with crazing and rubbing to polychrome decoration, shrinkage etc, fair/good.
A pair of Victorian green glass and parcel gilt vases baluster form with frilled rims, 10in. (25.4cm.) high; together with a similar mallet shaped decanter; and shallow vase with flared, flattened rim. (4) *Gilt wear to all four pieces. The decanter with a fine crazing to the exterior in bands around the body - almost has the appearance of varnish across the surface, which appears to be original.
A late 19th century crackle 'ice' glass lemonade jug by the Sandwich Glass Co., Boston pear form with interlaced reeded handle and frilled rim, with internal ice compartment concealed below the handle., 11in. (28cm.) high; together with a clear glass water jug with no handle, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) high; and a small etched glass Victorian vase. (3) *Good condition, with no chips or cracks. The vase has water residue to the interior and would benefit from cleaning.
A Victorian Bohemian amber flashed glass vase waisted form, engraved with flowers and foliage, on a panel cut foot, 5 3/8in. (13.6cm.) high; together with a pair of Victorian gilt decorated white glass candlesticks, 5 5/8in. (14.25cm.) high; a Victorian gilt metal mounted opaque blue glass vase, 8¼in. Four blown glass plant watering globes or bottle stoppers probably 19th / early 20th century, in green tinted clear glass, with bubble inclusions, size from 4½ to 6½in. long, together with a similar globe bottle stopper. (5) *Heavy gilt wear to the white glass pieces. Small chip to underside edge of foot on one candlestick. Surface corrosion to metal and glue residue to mount on blue vase. Minor gilt wear to Bohemian vase. The blue glass bottles with damage (and glued repairs) to the spire stopper and gilt wear.
A Chinese famille rose porcelain double gourd vase, circa 1760. With twin handles and decorated with bats, deer and fish, old paper label to reverse, height 18cm, width 9cm, depth 8.5cm.No breaks or chips. Wear to the gilding and some scratches to the enamel. A Chinese blue and white meiping vase, Ming Dynasty, 15th century. With short flaring neck, painted with a gentleman and an attendant watching a crane in flight in a fenced garden of pine and rockwork, the shoulder with scattered precious objects, height 33cm, width 14cm. (2) Bought by the Cornish vendor at Christies South Kensington, 25th November 1999. Ex lot 606.Probably a replacement neck. The body has many pitted marks to the glaze. There is long line area of raised blown glaze. Various line firing cracks to the glaze and a hairline crack emanating from one. Various glaze scratches. The foot with large 25 x 25mm glaze chip to the foot. The base has a deep firing crack but this doesn't appear to have gone right through the base. A Japanese cloisonne vase and cover, Meiji period. The domed cover with Kiku knop above an hexagonal body with panels of gilt decorated to the sides with foliage,on a stepped circular foot, with green enamel interior, height 11cm, width 7cm, depth 7.5cm. There isn't any condition issues. Possibly a new knop as the screw inside is very new looking. Please see images of the knop and base.
Two Chinese porcelain prunus pattern vases, late 19th century. Height 20.5cm, width 7.5cm, two Chinese prunus pattern ginger jars, (one cover lacking) height 14.5cm, diameter 12cm and a Chinese blue and white porcelain baluster vase, height 15cm, width 7.5cm. (5)The ginger jars show sign of restoration to the lip and age-related marks to the base. One of the prunus vases has a 1cm chip to the lip and nibbles to the base are evident on both. The baluster vase also has a 1cm chip to the lip.
An attractive Chinese silk embroidered pleated skirt, 19th century. The cream ground with multiple floral sprays, the front and back panels embroidered with precious objects including a vase of flowers, length 84cm, waist circumference 102cm, base of skirt circumference 202cm. Provenance: From the estate of Lt Commander Conway Benning Allen.Allen was married in Hong Kong Cathedral in 1927, at which time he was Captain of HMS L5, one of eight L class submarines built for the Royal Navy during WWI. Based in Falmouth, HMS L5 had sailed to Hong Kong in 1919 and she served on the China Station throughout the 1920s, where Allen and his wife acquired these items.Signs that it has been used with age-related wear and fraying. Discolouration in places. The embroidery is in good condition. Please view extra images.
