An extensive Royal Crown Derby Imari pattern matched dinner and tea service, various dates, comprising; a pair of oval two-handled tureens and covers (31cm wide), two graduated oval platters (41cm wide), twelve dinner plates (27cm diameter), six smaller plates, two square twin-handled dishes, an oval dish, a small square twin-handled dish, a circular dish and cover, two circular plates, a teapot and cover, a sugar bowl, a jug, twelve teacups, twelve saucers, twelve side plates, six saucers, a slop bowl, a toast rack, a jug, a two-handled cup, a small vase and five trinket dishes.
A Chinese bronze “Hu” shaped vase in the archaic style, decorated with band of dragons above stylised leaves incorporating masks, and “Fushou” ring handles. 37cm high, Ming period. Considerable repairs to neck. Provenance: Christie’s South Kensington, Asian art sale 2007, Lot 1459.
A Japanese stained ivory vase together with carved lacquered wood stand, the vase carved in high relief with a scholar seated on the back of a buffalo pulled by a small boy standing on a rock and accompanied by a young peasant girl, further carved with pine and plum tree, Mount Fuji in the background, with gilt detail, the stand carved to simulate waves strewn with gilded bamboo leaves, gilt signature to base, 18th-19th century, 14cm high, a tiny chip to one of the tree branches, otherwise in good condition.
Modern glass. A Steuben glass olive dish with scroll handle, 13cm. diameter, an Orrefors wine red deep oval bowl with slight swirl, 14.5x18cm., a pair of Wedgwood double reel short candlesticks, ht. 10cm., and an unmarked glass vase, ht. 18cm. Condition. Very slight scratch to inside of Steuben piece, light scratches to inside of Orrefors, small chips and general scratches to underside of unmarked vase. Otherwise no chips, cracks or defects noted.
An Art Nouveau black glass vase of swollen cylinder shape with embossed pewter overlay of a wisteria tree with green and blue glass oval cabochons around the top, a band of pewter with circular blue cabochons around the base representing the ground below. Unsigned, circa 1910. Ht. 28cm. In excellent condition, no chips, cracks or other defects noted.
An American three-piece silver part-fluted coffee set of slender vase shape with domed covers and urn finials, by The Mauser Manufacturing Company, New York, circa 1900, angular handles, gilt interiors and oval bases, coffee pot 24 cm. high, wt. 715 gm.Good condition, couple of tiny pinprick dings to one side of coffee pot.
19th century AD. A group of silver amulets comprising: a vase with fluted base and three stemmed flower sprouting from the top; a key with ellipse head; a galloping horse with orb below front legs; a key with scrolled head; a cimaruta with key, moon and hand in mano fico gesture. Cf. Berry, V. Neapolitan Charms Against the Evil Eye, in Folklore, Vol. 79 no. 4 (Winter 1968), pp.250–56. 19 grams total, 23-53mm (1 - 2"). English private collection; acquired in the 1970s. In South Italy there is still a strong belief in the powers of the Evil Eye, or malocchio, and amulets have been made since Roman times to ward off the negative powers. During the 18th and 19th centuries silver amulets were made in the region of Naples to protect against the powers of stregha, or witches. In Italy it was believed that children are especially weak against the forces of the Evil Eye. The high infant mortality rate was more likely due to poor hygiene and diet, but it was attributed to the Evil Eye being cast on them by a 'jettatore' (a Neapolitan term referring to one with the powers of the Evil Eye"). [6 No Reserve] Very fine condition.
Qing Dynasty, late 19th century AD. A pair of fluted porcelain bowls painted to the outside with famille rose decoration of a court lady with a group of children collecting fruit from a large tree, table to the front with vase and flowers; spurious reign mark to the base. 340 grams total, 12cm (4 3/4"). 19th century AD. A group of Bidriware bronze vessels with silver inlay consisting of: a hookah base with flared rim inlaid with petal pattern and vertical lines with dot motif, to the shoulder a scrolling plant motif with elongated petals below and vertical lines with dot motif; to the base further elongated petals with flower motif to the rolled edge; a vase with inlaid circles to the rim, dashed lines running vertically to a lip; neck widening to a globular body with dashed lines, horizontal band to neck and body with repeating cross motif; to the base elongated petal pattern with small petals to the foot. See Lal, K., Bidri Ware: National Museum Collection, National Museum New Delhi, 1990. 1.78 kg, 18-19cm (7 - 7 1/2"). Ex South London collection; acquired in the late 1990s. Fine condition.
19th century AD. A turned wooden vase with basal ring, bulbous body, waisted neck with median collar; the surface with bands of floral and tendril designs, friezes of figures in formal settings. 309 grams, 25cm (9 3/4"). Property of a California collector; acquired 1970s-1990s. Fine condition.
11th century AD. A fragmentary ceramic vase with applied gold leaf decoration, blue wave pattern to the background, large bosses with small figures to the centre. 164 grams, 11.5cm (4 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired from a major Mayfair gallery; acquired on the London art market before 2000; from the Kelekian collection. Fair condition. Very rare.
19th century AD. A tall ceramic vase with pale blue glazed body, trumpet-shaped mouth, sharp shoulder with two mushroom appliqués and integral rings; frieze of females in courtly gowns amid clouds and flowers, two panels of calligraphic text. 3.4 kg, 42.5cm (16 3/4").
