A Japanese carved hardwood figure of Li Tie Kuai, Meiji period, holding a double gourd vase aloft and with his foot raised on a crutch, on pierced and carved plinth base, 37cm high. Note: Li Tie Kuai is one of the eight Daoist immortals. His spirit is reputed to inhabit the body of a dying begger and he is traditionally depicted clutching a pilgrim's gourd and being supported by a crutch. He is known for his benevolence to the poor, sick and needy.
