A Third Quarter 18th Century French Ivory Fan, the monture relatively plain save for carving to the upper guards, backed with cerise foil and gilded, and gilding applied to the shoulders/upper gorge. The double fabric leaf is plain to the verso, the recto being embroidered with metal thread and tiny gold sequins to highlight three features, those of a central vase of colourful flowers, and further flower sprays. Elsewhere on the leaf bright flowers alternate with groupings of musical instruments. A gilt and red painted border encompasses the designs. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm Purchased in an antiques shopLoss to the cerise foil in the upper guards, gilding bright, the leaf is relatively clean.
