An early 19th Century Chinese baluster shaped vase decorated in underglaze blue depicting an exotic bird amongst flowering leaves on a circular foot with blue concentric ring on a crackle glazed base, 37 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Overall wear and scufs, firing faults and kiln dust specks and blemishes throughout, chips, several hairline cracks to rim and neck, quite extensive crazing and discolouring to underside, crazing and some discolouration throughout.
An 18th Century oak, ash and elm country chair with solid vase shaped splat on turned legs CONDITION REPORTS Overall with wear and scuffs, various splits, cracks and patch repairs, new screws, nails, etc. Chair may be an amalgamation of two or more chairs as appears to have various alterations and repairs, and screw fittings to arms where they meet the back and where arms meet seat, and large gouge to upright to back which appears to have been coloured in to match and the arm at this point fits into the gouged area (this may or may not have been original to the chair).
Attractive German loop pile machine woven carpet, being an accurate copy of a 16th-17th century Safavid ‘vase’ carpet from Kerman, early to mid 20th century, 12ft.9in. x 9ft.8in. 3.89m. x 2.94m. Small area of slight wear top right corner of field, areas of surface staining, small hole lower right corner.
A large and interesting collection of flatweave fragments and off-cuts, consisting mainly of European tapestry border pieces and other fragments, 17th century and later, small fragments of silk and wool embroideries and one small worn fragment of an 18th century Kerman ‘vase’ carpet. Sold as a collection with all faults not subject to return. (Approx. 73 all in one box).
Three English samplers, the first finely worked in coloured silks on a linen ground with two tiny dark brown lions either side of a central vase of flowers, flanked by larger urns of flowers, three flowering trees above, verse below ‘Jesus permit they gracious name to stand……’ the name ‘Emma Jane’ and ‘Salisbury’ ‘1840’ worked in dark brown silk at the base; all within an angular trailing floral border; 16½ in. x 12in. 42cm. x 30cm. Tiny insect holes to ground; very slight fraying at edges. Framed and glazed. The second sampler, coarse linen ground worked mostly in coloured wools with some silk here and there, the top worked with bands of the alphabet and numbers; two names (unreadable) below the centre band; flowering plants, two heart motifs and two sets of initials either side of the central house, below which is worked a name and age(completely unreadable) all within a trailing acorn border, mid 19th century, 16in. x 13½ in. 41cm. x 34cm. Much fading to the wool; the name at the base is partly worn away; other stitches partly worn away in places; small insect holes to the ground. Framed and glazed. The third sampler, worked in red wool on an open canvas with the alphabet in two registers and numbers and the name: ‘Violet Gibbs, 11, Shutford School, 1891’ within a lozenge and ‘x’ border, 10¼in. x 7½in., 26cm. x 19cm. Framed and glazed. Slight time stains to the canvas. (3)
A Coalport pot pourri vase and cover, and a Coalport urn and cover, c.1891-1919, both handpainted with a lakeview cartouche to both front and reverse, set against a deep cobalt blue and yellow ground with reticulated lids and handles, 17cm and 14.5cm high respectively (2) (at fault)
