Lot 1207

A late 19th century Indian carved ivory tusk vase, the lid carved with Ganesh and raised on four elephant head feet. Height 15 cm.

Lot 127

A Japanese Satsuma vase, Taisho period, with twin dragon handles, decorated with Rakan and pagodas all beneath a shimazu mon with a dragon writhing beneath, signed in gilt with 9 characters Dai Nippon, Satsuma Yaki. Height 28.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top rim has had professional restoration. There is also a rim chip. There is overpainting to both the inside and outside of the neck in the upper 2 cm. There are small chips to the sharp points around the dragon's mouth. One dragon has a missing tooth. The tips of the ears are also chipped. The vase is generally a little dirty and has the usual all over crazing.

Lot 128

A Chinese reticulated tortoiseshell vase, 20th century, of square form, the rim with engraved key pattern above a waisted reticulated neck above an inverted square body with panels of moveable dragons amongst scrolling clouds, 4 character Shunzhi mark incised to underside. Height 21 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: We have had a good look at this vase with the aid of a magnifying glass and cannot see any significant issues. There do not appear to be any cracks or any losses to the tortoiseshell. There do not appear to have been any repairs either.

Lot 133

A Chinese blue and white "Hundred boys" baluster vase and cover, Kangxi period (1662-1722), decorated with boys in playful pursuits to including riding a hobby horse, kite flying, lighting fireworks, with female attendants and separated by rockwork and banana leaves, marked in blue to the underside with a spring of lingzhi fungus within a double lined circle. Height 32 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: As you will see from our images the lid has significant damage and losses. The main body of the vase is in better condition with no losses, no repairs and no restoration. There are however three hairline cracks running from the top lip down to the shoulder of the vase where the concentric ring mark is and another which protrudes below this line for a further 4 cm or so.

Lot 134

A Chinese blue and white Kangxi (1662-1722) vase, of inverted baluster form decorated with scholars either looking at scrolls, paintings, playing the Qin on a table with censor and incense tools of playing Go, all above numerous boys in leisurely pursuit to include drumming, a lion parade, blind mans buff and flying kites, the neck with Buddhist symbols, with double under glazed blue circles to the underside, with later hand carved and pierced wood cover. Height excluding cover 34 cm, including cover 44 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The later wooden lid is in good order with no issues. The vase itself has no damage, repairs or restoration. We can see no evidence of any hairline cracks to the body. The top rim is in good order. The base rim has minor scuffs and nibbles to the sharp glazed edge. These are all old marks and there are no significant chips at this point.

Lot 140

A pair of Chinese blue and white vases and covers, late 19th century, each of inverted baluster form and decorated with pagodas and figures, each with four character Kangxi mark to the underside. 32 cm high, together with a small pair of Japanese porcelain vases and covers, 20th century, with landscape decorations. 11.5 cm high (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Neither of the large vases has any restoration. They do both however have some problems. The lid to one vase has an edge chip to the lid edge. The glaze is a little thin on the inside edge of the lid recess. It is rough to the touch at this point. The main body of the vase has a top lip chip and small hairline crack from this point. There is also a second chip which is more pronounced on the inside edge. The rest of the vase is in good condition. Vase 2 has no problems with the lid. The top lip of the vase however has had a break. The two pieces have been re-glued badly. Other than this the vase is in good order. One of the small vases has a perfect lid. The same vase however has had a break and a section of the top lip has been re-glued. The base glaze is thin and rough. The second vase has a chip to the outside edge of the lid with a further chip to the lid recess. The main body of the vase also has a top lip chip.

Lot 152

A Chinese blue and white export dish, 19th century, decorated with nine dragons with a border of butterflies and peony, together with an 18th century octagonal blue and white soup dish, a late 19th century sleeve vase with pseudo four character Kangxi mark and three small bowls. Largest diameter 24.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The larger tea bowl has a crack running down from the rim to the bottom of the bowl and has a chip to the rim. The smallest tea bowl has a crack running down from the rim of +/- 5 cm and the third tea bowl has a chip to the rim, but has no hairline cracks. The vase has a large chip to rim, and two small chips to rim. These are visible on or images. The bowl has two large cracks running from the rim, both +/- 7 cm long and the rim of the bowl is rough with firing imperfections and minor chips, all of these are historic. The plate has two cracks, one +/- 2 cm, the other +/- 6 cm. There are three small chips to rim.

Lot 153

A Japanese Ando style cloisonne vase, 20th century, with plated mounts, decorated with flowering peony against a cream ground. Height 21.5 cm.

Lot 154

A Japanese Kutani vase, circa 1900, decorated panels depicting a mother and child amongst swallows and blossom, the obverse with birds amongst blossoming branches, all against a typical red ground with further gilt foliate decoration and phoenix mons, signed to the underside "Kutani Tsukuru", and a Taisho period Kutani vase decorated with Manchurian cranes amongst flowers. 30 cm and 305 cm respectively. CONDITION REPORT: The Imari vase is in good order with no issues. We can see no evidence of any damage, no repairs and no restoration. The Kutani vase does not appear to have any restoration either but is in less good order. The gilding is a little rubbed to the rim. The areas of white glaze are showing some signs of glaze crazing and slight discolouration. The vase has also been drilled to the rear of the base for a light fitting. There is also a chip to the underside edge of the foot rim. The base is also crazed.

A Chinese Canton familie jaune vase, 19th century, with moulded rim, the neck applied with two shi-shi and with Chilong to the shoulders, all above two dragons heightened with gilding amongst blossoming flowers against a yellow ground, with wood stand. Height 25.5 cm

A Chinese blue and white baluster vase and cover, 20th century, the domed cover with Dog of Fo finial and decorated throughout with fish amongst plants, pseudo six character Xuande mark to the shoulder (extensively broken and glued). Height 93 cm.

A Japanese blue and white vase, circa 1900, with a flaring rim with wavy border, the interior decorated with cash tied ribbons and butterflies, the exterior with birds and fauna. Height 46 cm.

A Chinese porcelain "Clare de Lune" style globular vase, 20th century, having a flaring rim with shallow neck above the bulbous body with finely crazed glaze, pseudo six character Qianlong seal mark. Height 17 cm.

Lot 168

A Chinese blue and white club shaped vase, 19th century, decorated throughout with playful shi-shi amongst clouds, four character pseudo Kangxi mark. 30.5 cm high (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The vase has a very tiny glaze imperfection to the top lip which is evident when viewed under a magnifying glass. Other than this there are no issues. We can see no chips, cracks or any restoration or damage.

Lot 177

A pair of Chinese blue and white baluster vases, late 19th century, decorated with birds and insects amongst peony and peaches, four character pseudo Kangxi mark. Height 18.2 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Neither vase has any repairs or restoration. The slightly lighter coloured vase is in good order with no issues. The second vase has a firing mark to the bottom edge. There are also two short 1 cm hairline cracks running from the top inside edge of the rim for approx 1 cm down the outside edge. These are very faint but are visible with the naked eye.

Lot 179

Two Chinese porcelain vases, Republic period, one depicting two ladies in a garden landscape, one seated reading the other standing with a fan beneath Ruyi head and diaper borders, stamped four character Qianlong mark the other depicting two females beside a pine tree and rock beneath Ruyi head and blue coloured diapered borders, pseudo stamped six character Qianlong seal mark. 19.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: One vase is in good order with no condition issues. There are no restorations, no chips and no cracks. The second vase does have a loss to the top rim which should be evident in our image. Other than this the vase is in good order.

Lot 182

A large Chinese celadon twin handled vase, approximately 19th century, decorated with moulded key and banana leaf bands, the main body with archaic style decoration all upon a circular foot. Height 47 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The vase is in first class condition with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. There are no chips and no hairline cracks. The gilding is not rubbed.

Lot 192

A Japanese porcelain water pail, 20th century, with turquoise and gilt floral decoration between beaded borders and gilding. Height 14 cm, together with a Satsuma Moriage vase, 26 cm high and a four panel table screen decorated with cranes, pine trees and mountains. Height 23.5 cm width 47 cm.

Lot 203

A Japanese cloisonne vase, Taisho period, of tapering form, decorated with blossoming flowers and butterflies against a blue thunder ground, marked for the studio of Gonda Hirosuke. Height 23.3 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We have had a good look at this vase under a magnifying glass and can see no evidence of any damage. The condition of the enamel and metalwork is all very good and there are no issues.

Lot 206

A pair of Japanese miniature Shibayama and silver mounted vases, Meiji period (1868-1912), each with a shaped flaring rim and waisted neck with foliate enamel decoration, the ivory bodies with Shibayama decoration, one with a bird amongst blossoming flowers, the other with a butterfly amongst flowers, each on a shaped and raised foot with enamel decoration, unsigned. Height 11.2 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Both vases have problems. In both cases the silver mounts are in good condition however there are numerous losses to the enamel infills. The main problems however are with the ivory sections. One vase has significant cracking running the full height of the ivory and further stress fractures. There are also numerous small pieces of mother of pearl and enamel missing. The second vase whilst not so badly cracked does have numerous small hairline stress fractures and a significant amount of loss to the mother of pearl and enamel.

Lot 207

A Japanese miniature Shibayama and silver vase and cover, Meiji period (1868-1912), the cover with floral knop flanked by cloisonne flowers above the silver coloured metal shoulder with similar floral decoration, the ivory body with Shibayama flowers (an outline for a bird vacant), the opposing side with a butterfly amongst flowers on a bamboo frame, with inset mother of pearl signed tablet with two characters for Masakazu, all on a silver metal foot with cloisonne decoration. Height 9 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The lid is in good order with no issues. There are no losses to the enamels and only very minor scratches to the enamelled finish when viewed under a loupe. The upper silver and enamelled section has a small loss to the bottom edge. Also one of the raised silver enamel frames has a small loss as well. The silver base is in generally good order as is the enamel. The main issue with the vase is to the ivory section. This has some stress fractures, but the main issue is significant loss to the mother of pearl flower heads and the bird. There are also two holes to either side of the vase which may suggest a missing handle of some description.

Lot 208

A large Japanese Satsuma vase, Meiji period (1868-1912), the hexagonal body with panels of figures and birds, to include Samurai, Bijin, a hawk and quail, unsigned. 37 cm.

Lot 212

A good Japanese Satsuma vase, Meiji period (1868-1912), the neck and shoulder with gilt flower heads amongst karakusa above a panel of cockerels, hens and chicks and verso a landscaped view with ducks and a figure to the foreground all within a gilt bamboo leaf and mirror back ground, signed to the underside Dai Nihon Kokuda Ga. Height 12 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: We can see no evidence of any damage, repairs or restoration to this vase. It appears to be in extremely good order throughout. We have had a good look at the gilding under a loupe and can see no significant rubbing or loss.

Lot 215

A small Royal Copenhagen globular vase, decorated with a floral spray, a relief moulded royal Copenhagen ashtray, two bulldog ornaments and a sugar basin transfer printed with the "Entrance to The Pier" Bournemouth. Diameter 12 cm.

Lot 244

A pair of Copeland Spode Empire style vases, circa 1900, decorated in the Imari palette with gilt heightened flowers between pink and gilt and scale neck and foot, factory printed and inscribed marks, pattern No. 3790. Height 25.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: One vase has had the handle completely broken away in three places. This has been re-glued and the repair is visible. The same vase has a hairline crack running from the top lip down into the neck of the vase. On the opposing side there is a shorter hairline crack running across the top lip down into the vase for +/- 6 mm. The second vase also has four hairline cracks running from the top lip down into the vase. There is also some discolouration. The handles on the second vase are intact. There are some minor losses to the gilding and scale pattern on the neck of this vase. Both vases have some rubbing to the gilding.

Lot 245

A pair of Derby porcelain Empire style vases, circa 1815, in the Imari palette heightened with gilding, with moulded foliate scroll cap handles and all upon a square foot, red painted mark to the underside and numbered 14 and further numbered to the foot in blue 58. Height 23 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both vases have been damaged. All four handles have been off and re-glued and overpainted. Both vase have probably been detached from the bases at the narrow part of the vase where the gilt line is on the socle. This line has been repainted on both vases. The main bodies of both vases appear to be in generally good order. Both vases have rubbing to the gilding particularly around the proud parts of the top rim and base.

Lot 260

A Staffordshire pottery figural spill vase, titled "Dog Tray", mid 19th century, sparsely painted, the moulded lettering heightened with gilding, 31 cm high. NOTE: The dog Tray achieved popularity after the publication of Thomas Campbells poem "The Harper": together with a late 19th century Staffordshire pottery figure group titled "Minstrels" modelled as a Continental man with violin, his female companion with a mandolin, 26.5 cm high.

A group of Royal Worcester porcelain, comprising a pair of cylindrical vases with flared necks, shape No. G923, date code for 1912, 11.3 cm high, a rose pattern vase, shape No. 2048, date code 1925, height 15.8 cm and a Royal Worcester James Hadley floral vase, shape No. 285, incised pattern No. 3080, printed factory marks and inscribed initials, 13.3 cm high, together with a continental hand painted vase and a Noritake condiment pot with spoon. CONDITION REPORT: One of the pair of spill vases is in good order with no issues. The second vase has a hairline crack across the base and some crazing to the base. The same vase has very faint hairline cracks around the base area just above the gilt line. These may simply be cracks to the glaze. The large Sedgley vase should no doubt have a lid which is missing. The vase itself is however in good condition with no chips, repairs or restoration. There is some rubbing to the gilding on the top lip and top rim but no significant issues other than the lack of the lid. The green vase has been broken and repaired on the top rim. There is overpainting here, much of which has come away. There has clearly however been a break. The remainder of the vase is in good order with no further issues. The vase with the metal rim is structurally sound with no chips, cracks, damage or restoration. The silver plating to the rim is all rubbed away. The gilt line around the base has some rubbing also. The mustard pot has a surface scratch to the right of the vessel. The lid and spoon are in good order.

Lot 353

A Royal Crown Derby porcelain vase and cover, date code 1909, with gilt scroll handles, floral decorated body heightened with gilding all upon a circular foot, factory printed and inscribed marks 1066/2553, 24 cm high, together with a Royal Bonn vase, circa 1900, with gilt metal rococo style mounts, the body painted with floral sprays, printed factory marks and inscribed numbers 36.8 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: The lidded vase is in good condition with no issues. The gilding is strong and not rubbed. There is no evidence of any damage. The large vase is in generally good order also. All of the metalwork is present and intact with no losses. The main body of the vase does not appear to have any damage, cracks repairs or restoration. When viewed from beneath there is some crazing to the underside edge of the base.

Lot 651

A Troika slab vase, possibly by Vicky Drew, circa 1980's, inscribed marks to the underside, 22.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The vase is in good order with no visible damage, no repairs and no restoration. There are no chips and no hairline cracks. The vase is a little dirty inside and has some minor marks to the underside of the rim but no significant issues.
