A small Chinese 18th century blue and white porcelain gu form vase, flared neck with floral and scroll border above cylindrical body bearing flowering prunus trees in vases, 4¾in. (12cm.) high.* Condition: Two small chips and glaze wear around base rim. Tiny glaze flaw to rim. Extensive burst air bubbles to glaze to interior. 

Lot 4

A pair of Rockingham miniature porcelain vases, mid 19th century, decorated with a continuous still life floral design to circumference of body between gilt upper and lower borders, Griffin marks to undersides, 3in. (7.6cm.) high. (2)* Condition: One with 30mm vertical hairline from top rim, which is faintly visible to exterior. No other damage. The other with three cracks from top rim to one side of vase - one 30mm., one 40mm. and the other slightly L-shaped, approx. 50mm. Visible to exterior. and with some pale brown discolouration along the two larger cracks to the inside. Damp ingress to the top of the 40mm. crack has caused the porcelain to blister slightly on the outside of the vase, in the pink ground just above the convolvulus flower. Rubbing to gilt borders on both.

A Chinese porcelain republic period vase, squared Gu form, rim with Greek key and scrolling borders, waisted neck with cloud form reserves bearing mountain scapes to front and reverse with scroll and foliate decoration on a lilac ground, block form central section having figural panels to front and reverse the sides with blossoming branches, concaved sides to base with spread winged phoenix to both sides on a green geometric ground, 12in. (30.5cm.) high.

A large 19th century Japanese Imari charger, of scalloped, circular form, with a floral vase to the well, the panelled rim painted with chrysanthemums and fir trees, the underside with blue peonies and foliate meander, underglaze blue three character mark, 16½in. (42cm.) diameter.

A Chinese porcelain blue and white bottle vase from the Hatcher Cargo, Wanli period, decorated in underglaze blue, the elongated and flared neck the collar with ruyi motif border above six segmented panels the upper with four vertical dot design, a centralised band of chained ruyi heads above wider panels of geometric hooked black lines with blue infill pattern, the bulbous body having six segmented sections decorated with alternating vertical head down horses flying through scrolls above waves, on raised foot with double concentric bands, 10¾in. (27.3cm.) high, Christies sale label to base. ** Provenance: The Hatcher Collection, Christies Amsterdam, 12-13th June 1984. In total only five pear-shaped bottle-vases, decorated with flying horses above waves, were sold, four in 1984 and one the following year in Amsterdam.** Condition: Good condition, with no damage or restoration. Glaze flaw just above foot, from the making.

An early 19th century Chinese Canton famille rose vase, ovoid form with moulded linen fold decoration tied with an enamelled blue ribbon and gilt Buddhistic lion handles, the body decorated with four scroll bordered panels, two depicting noble figures and their attendants, the other two birds and butterflies amidst flowering foliage, on a floral and foliate enamelled gilt ground, 14in. (35.5cm.) high.* Condition: Good condition overall - no chips or cracks. Minor gilt wear. Enamelled decoration in very good condition.

(48.3cm.) high. (2)* Condition: In fine condition, with no damage or restoration to either vase.

A Chinese porcelain famille rose jar and cover, 19th century, of ovoid form, with trellis border to upper area bearing four reserves each containing two blooms, the body with enamelled decoration of peonies in a fang ding form planter to front, the reverse with branches of prunus within an ovoid twin handled dragon decorated vase, separated by two panels of vertical character marks, circular cover with conforming decoration and pointed ovoid finial, 12¾in. (32.5cm.) high.

Lot 755

An early 19th century Chinese Canton famille rose vase, ovoid form with moulded linen fold decoration and gilt twin-Buddhistic lion handles, the body decorated with two main scroll bordered panels, one depicting noble figures and their attendants in a lakeside palace, the other Oriental pheasants, peacocks and insects amidst flowering foliage above rockwork, smaller conforming reserves to the sides and neck, on an overall floral and foliate enamelled gilt ground, 17in. (43cm.) high.* Condition: 3in. crack to rim - not visible to exterior. Also, large star of hairline cracks to base. Gilt wear to handles and some gilt wear elsewhere. A few minor glaze chips to foot. Some small flaws to enamelling in places - at first glance these appear to be flakes from the enamel, but they are in fact small patches where the enamel has not adhered properly during firing.

An early 19th century Chinese Canton famille rose vase, ovoid form with everted scalloped rim, twin gilt Buddhistic lion handles and two moulded dragons to either side of the neck, decorated with exotic birds and butterflies amidst flowering plants and rockwork within Greek keyed borders, the neck and borders similarly decorated, 14¼in. (36.25cm.) high.* Condition: No chips or cracks. Some gilt wear to handles and dragons, and some rubs to decoration to rim. There are a few flaked areas to the yellow fruit in the decoration, and some flaking from the enamel on the keyed borders. One pheasant's tail has a rubbed patch.

A Chinese transitional porcelain blue and white garlic neck vase from the Hatcher Cargo, mid-17th century, the elongated neck with slightly flared rim over a slightly compressed globular body, decorated with birds and insects in flight amidst floral sprays and berries, red Christies sale label to base, 14in. (35.5cm.) high.* Provenance: The Hatcher Collection, Christies Amsterdam, 12-13th June 1984.** Condition: Matt finish to glaze throughout - small clear patch just above foot, showing that original glaze finish is preserved beneath. A few light stains and small encrustation spots to lower body. Firing chip from the making to inside of footrim.

A Sumida Gawa vase, 19th century, of elongated ovoid form with typical unglazed ribbed orange body bearing to robed male figures in relief to side thick grey and black drip glaze to upper area, 12in. (30.5cm.) high; together with a Sumida Gawa bowl, quatrefoil lobed design with three male and two monkey figures holding on to the rim, thick treacle drip glaze to upper area, on four shaped supports, 9¼in. A good quality Bohemian ruby glass vase, late 19th century, with faceted and scalloped rim, with fine painted pictorial depicting a two horse driven chariot carrying male archer and female charioteer, the chariot and passengers in gilt, the horses in silver, facet cut lower section on circular foot with gilt border, 5¾in. (14.7cm.) high.

Lot 653

A large, good quality Chinese Canton style baluster vase, early 20th century, printed seal mark to base, flared and waisted neck with floral and foliate scroll decoration over a turquoise ground, the body finely enamelled with Oriental pheasants perched upon a blossoming prunus branch above flowering peonies issuing from rockwork, lappet petal border to base, painted calligraphy to reverse, 16½in. (41.8cm.) high, on carved hardwood stand. (2)* Condition: Star glaze crack to reverse just beneath left side of calligraphy. Does not show to interior. Decoration in very good condition. No other chips, cracks or repairs.

A Chinese porcelain transitional blue and white garlic mouth vase from the Hatcher Cargo, mid-17th century, mallet form with elongated waisted neck and garlic mouth, painted with floral sprays and insects, the mouth with cloud scrolls and a band of pointed leaves to the rim, red Christies sale label to base, 15¼in. (38.7cm.) high.* Provenance: The Hatcher Collection, Christies Amsterdam, 12-13th June 1984.** Condition: 6mm flaked chip to rim. A patch of brown stained lines to glaze on lower body. Some encrustation to underside.  No other cracks or chips.

A harlequin set of six George III mahogany dining chairs, comprising a set of three Chippendale style chairs, with foliate and scroll carved serpentine top rails, pierced Gothic arched vase splats and moulded uprights, on linen fold carved square chamfered front legs united by chamfered H-stretchers; a single George II chair with yoke top rail on scrolled uprights and pierced vase splat, raised on cabriole front legs and turned back legs, with turned H-stretcher; and a pair of chairs with reeded eared top rails, pierced vase splats and square chamfered front legs; all with Victorian needlework seats. A near pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain beaker vases from the Hatcher Cargo, mid 17th century, moulded with slightly flaring rim, one decorated with sprays of peonies and insects, the other with stiff leaves, both above cloud scrolls and a band of pointed leaves, 8½in. (21.5cm.) high, both with Christies sale labels to base. (2)* Provenance: The Hatcher Collection, Christies Amsterdam, 12-13th June 1984.** Condition: The first in good condition, but with some pale brown stains to exterior glaze. The other with band of iron red and dark grey staining to exterior, full vertical of vase approx. 1½in. wide.  Two small patches of barnacle encrustation to exterior and tiny frit to edge of base.

Lot 660

A Chinese blue and white porcelain dragon vase, 19th century, with the elongated flared neck over an ovoid form body, painted with two serpentine bodied dragons amidst a floral and foliate ground, character marks to underside, 14in. (35.7cm.) high.* Condition: Three 10mm glaze chips to rim. Star crack to underside.  No other damage or restoration noted.

Lot 659

A fine Chinese porcelain republic period vase, baluster form, with enamel decoration depicting a finely robed emperor with attendants, 15½in. (39.4cm.) high.* Condition: Large crack to body of vase - see photos. Two small glaze chips to rim. Base has been drilled for lamp conversion (unfortunately through the seal mark).

Lot 31

A Doulton Lambeth stoneware vase, c.1881, various colours with decorated floral & foliate in raised relief, three cherub faces in raised oval panels to sides of vase, the underbase bearing the Doulton Lambeth trade mark, date, initials MA (Mary Aitken?), D and various other incised markings, 13¾in. (35cm.) high.

A Chinese Kangxi style blue and white baluster vase, probably 19th century, decorated with Long Eliza and a jumping boy in fenced gardens, beneath bat style arches, the foot and cylindrical neck with floral decoration, double concentric circles to base, 10in. (25.5cm.) high, restoration to neck and shoulder.

Two Chinese carved hardwood low tables, late 19th century, one with scalloped bead work edge with pink variegated marble inset encompassed by inlaid mother of pearl prunus branch border, over a pierced frieze with floral mother of pearl decoration, on four cabriole supports with fierce mask carving to knees above ball and claw feet, united by concave stretchers; the second of conforming design and size but without mother of pearl inlay, both 18in. (45.75cm.) high, 21in. (53.5cm.) diameter. (2)* Condition: - MOP inlaid table: Several cracks to marble and a few chipped areas where cracks cross. Two minor losses to MOP inlay to top border. Approx. 11 MOP petals missing from flowers and centre of most flowers missing. Two losses from large MOP lappets at top of frieze. Joints of stretcher loose. Chip to end of one stretcher at joint with leg. - Second table: Pale circular water stain from a vase or jardiniere to marble top. Small filled chip to edge of marble and small chip to wood at border of marble. Dark spirit stain to edge of top. Small split to one section of pierced frieze. Top very loose - several joints need gluing.

(3)* Provenance: The Hatcher Collection, Christies Amsterdam, 12-13th June 1984.** Condition: One with two small patches of pale brown staining to glaze on exterior. On one the glaze matted and slightly opaque. The taller vase with pale brown cloudy staining to exterior glaze throughout.

(2)* Provenance: The Hatcher Collection, Christies Amsterdam, 12-13th June 1984.** Condition: Some kiln residue as usual to underside of bases.  One vase has a large firing chip to the footrim - this is almost certainly from the making. It is visible when the vase is viewed from the side.  No other chips, cracks or restoration.
