5th century BC. A red speckled stone cylinder seal with frieze of a squatting female figure facing to the front and holding a pair of long horned cattle by the tips of the horns; below a running frieze of geometric pattern; between the cattle a vase with water and plants coming from the top. 15 grams, 30mm (1 1/4"). From the collection of a North West London gentleman; acquired in the 1980s. Very fine condition. A beautiful example.
2nd millennium BC. A carved serpentine vase, conical in profile with flared rim; frieze of a standing kilted god or hero with horned headdress and hatched hair, grasping in each hand the neck of a rearing serpent, each with gaping mouth and slender protruding tongue, elliptical panels in two lines to the body; supplied with a laminated card clarifying the design. For a similar bowl see The British Museum accession number BM 128887 305 grams, 10.5cm (4"). Property of a London gentleman; part of his family collection since the 1970s. Accompanied by a museum quality drawing of the design. Bowls such as this were produced on the island of Tarut in the Gulf, close to the Arabian coast. The carving is known as the Intercultural Style and combines stylistic elements that are paralleled in eastern Iran and western Central Asia with iconography that derives from, and mingles, those of Mesopotamia, Iran and Harappa. The figure os most commonly described as the 'Master of Animals,' a hero figure that is associated with the control of the chaotic forces of nature as represented by wild animals. vessels such as this have been found at religious sites, such as the temple of the moon god Sin at Khafajah. Warring States, 475-221 BC. A bronze vessel with cylindrical body with two separate horizontal bands decorated with low relief gilt frieze of wheeled covered vehicles and retainers on horseback; tao-t'ieh masks with lose rings; supported on three legs in the shape of bears with carnelian turquoise inlays; to the lid a stylised mountain with ring with series of deer and birds below; frieze with mounted archers hunting deer; to the frieze three rats on hind legs. Accompanied by an Art Loss Register certificate. 2.1 kg, 22cm (8 1/2"). Property of a London collector; by inheritance from his grandfather; acquired during travels in the Far East in the 1920s. The zun is a type of ancient Chinese bronze or ceramic wine vessel with a round or square vase-like form, and sometimes in the shape of an animal. Used in religious ceremonies to hold wine, the zun has a wide lip to facilitate pouring. [A video of this lot is available on the TimeLine Auctions website] Fine condition. 18th century AD. A silver-gilt Tang style vase with flaring neck, bulbous body and wide foot; body engraved with scene of finches in blossom trees, scrolling cloud motif to the base of the foot. 146 grams, 14.5cm (5 3/4"). Private collection, South West London; acquired before 2000. Fine condition.
8th-10th century AD. A bronze piriform vase with discoid base, tubular neck with gusseted rim; four strap handles to the shoulder, each with a lentoid plaque and three rivets. 1.7 kg, 23.5 cm (9 1/4"). Property of a German gentleman; acquired before 1989. Fine condition.
8th-11th century AD. A bronze hanger (?) for a liturgical vessel, with slightly arched top with two projecting axe shaped lugs; below a vase shaped openwork motif with central band and with horizontal bar below, the whole forming a cross with Alpha and Omega; finger pad to the rear, handle ending in a curved head of a swan. 248 grams, 25cm (9 3/4"). Property of a German gentleman; acquired 1980-1990. Very fine condition.
1st-4th century AD. A group of three hardstone intaglios consisting of one engraved with a bearded male bust, one with a vase with plant motifs, one with a angel standing and holding a cross topped staff. 1.56 grams,17-20mm (1/2"). Property of a German collector; acquired in the 1990s. [3 No Reserve] Very fine condition.

A Scandinavian bone spoon with silver band for attaching the bowl to handle; bowl is wide with shallow dish; junction of tang with globular shape; body of handle fluted and ending in a turned vase shape with rounded end. 26 grams, 19.5cm (7 3/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Fine condition.

A glazed ceramic two-handled vase with flat everted rim, wide sloping neck decorated with Arabic script; body decorated with arched panels with Arabic and floral patterns; wide flat base with painted triangles above. 1.23 kg, 21.5cm (8 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired from a major Mayfair gallery; acquired on the London art market before 2000. Fine condition, rim chipped.
